Have you found a way to install DirectPay on Win10? It won't install and I cannot play any game older than HoI3

Has anybody got a way to install DirectPlay? I've tried pretty much everything, I've also tried to install Legacy/DirectPlay from the Programs and Features menu, but alas, I get the same very error.

Really admirable that you are still providing new patches for this fantastic game. While you are at it here are some more wishes:

- Darkest Hour really did one big thing right and that is modability: the exported almost everything to the misc file. Please consider doing that too!!! That would take care of almost everything.
- Oh and make sliders moddable again like DH.
- Minister death dates would be fantastic.

In AOD AI is not escorting transport ships. An easy prey, not only for a human player but also for hostile AI nations. AI's inefficiency to waste manpower and IC this way makes the game much less challenging.

Dormant units require full payment depending on type and strenght as If they were on-map.
It would be nice if an event-drive Addition/removal of a strength cap would be possible.
The switch_Allegiance command could also need some improvements to enable a split by ship instead of formation if used with percentage. This would enable a better split of French forces during Vichy formation

Has anybody got a way to install DirectPlay? I've tried pretty much everything, I've also tried to install Legacy/DirectPlay from the Programs and Features menu, but alas, I get the same very error.
Sadly, even if you managed to circumvent this issue, you would still not be capable to play the game, as Win8+ is also incompatible with DirectX7.

Getting away from DX7 will be the next priority after this patch is done. If it turns out that no one is able to circumvent the DirectPlay issue (Would Darkest Hour not have the same problem? Need to ask them.), then I guess I have to push that one up to be right behind. ... What a nightmare.

@All: That pretty much means that feature requests are at large out of the question right now. The effort necessary to just ensure that the game can be run at all, is... let's call it "considerable".
- I'll try to sneak in a bit of candy inbetween, but not anything more for this patch and nothing that would require a lot of work.

That written, if you discover that 1.08 features or fixes have been lost inbetween, I will grant those a bit more leeway on the "lot of work" part.

Thanks for the clarification. Regarding what you say above, the 1.08 'create supply dump' feature has always had issues as it does not work for any nation whose capital is not on the coast (I.e. The UK alongside Germany being the major ones here). This is because it always tries to ship directly from the capital, if the capital is not on the coast then it just says the route is blocked.

I'm part of an ongoing 7 player game and sometimes that means I have to sub two others. One of the 3 computers I use is a laptop made in 2004 with WinXP SP3 so even that relic will be able to play 1.10! :D

Great news that you are still working to improve AoD. It is one of my favorite video games of all time.

Here are some things I am hoping you might be able to fix....

type = add_division which = [name] value = [div type] when = model where = [brigade type]
1) The brigade that arrives with the division is always model 0 whereas it should be the most modern available.
2) This command does not work properly for naval ships because they arrive with no attached brigade, even if a brigade is specified in the command.
3) The division created by this event arrives with zero supplies and zero oil. It does not receive any supplies or oil until 24 hours after it is created. Divisions created by this command should arrive fully stocked with oil and supplies which will allow them to immediately move and fight without a huge penalty during the first day.


Event trigger timing is set to zero whenever a game is loaded from a save. By that, I mean any persistent event (say an event that fires once every 7 days or once every 30 days, like Lend Lease events for example) will all fire the first day after the game is loaded, even if they fired the day before the game was saved.


Related to the above point, it would be nice to have an event trigger allowing you to fire event X a fixed number of days after event Y has fired.


Unescorted troop transport ships maintain a 200km(?) range from enemy fleets and cannot be engaged by enemy ships. Someone else already mentioned this.


Dormant divisions cost money and supplies, whereas they should be free until they are activated. Someone else already mentioned this.


When a nation is annexed, I believe that every allied expeditionary division which has been lent to it is removed from the game. These borrowed divisions should be returned to their original owner instead of disappearing. I am not certain what happens to the expeditionary divisions that have been lent out to allies by the annexed nation, but they should be removed from the game given that their country surrendered.


If a country X accepts a paratrooper division as an expeditionary force from country Y, and loads that division onto a country X transport plane, then when the division is airdropped, it becomes a permanent member of country X's military rather than remaining as an expeditionary division. In other words, country X gains the division and country Y loses the division.


Are the commands type = change_retool_time value = X and type = set_retool_time value = X working properly? I could be wrong, but I remember them having no impact.

even worse this works (or a very similar effect) with transport ships and any kind of land units.
1, load a foreign unit (dont need to be exped) into a national transport
2, give the loaded national transport as exp force to any country (afair it does not matter which one)
3, upon taking back your exped transport the foreign unit inside will become permanently your national unit.

Bona pointed out the most important flaws. There are some mathematical flaws also which makes micromanagment fairly advantageous but part of them are softcoded and i guess does not affect many (for example you are way better building divisions and brigades separately and merge them only on the map. this is really a micromanagment nightmare for russia inf + art :) )

I also does not like the teleportation of raw materials via "open negotiation" but it is a way out of the scope for a patch (as i think it's a flaw in the game-model and not in the implementation) and not one of the major issues.

The multiplayer desync issue and extremely slow save file downloading is surely an implementation flaw and haunts the online community (many reloads and all of them takes ages)
The compression of the save file sounds unreasonable with today high-bandwidth internet and i observed it VERY slow (there is a pop-up "your computer may seem like frozen for minutes" and it takes insane amount of time given a ~30Mb file to compress on a core-i5).
Also save file transfer is insanely slow. the compressed file is only aroun 2MB and it takes literally 3 minutes despite i have 2MB upload speed and downloader has 2MB download speed. (ok 1 sec is a bit irrealistic assumption, but this ~10KB/sec is a joke)

ahh and one more thing, i know it has nothing to do with the patch but it would be so nice if steam would have the most up-to-date version...

The issue with Steam is due to BL-Logic (or whoever releases the patches to Steam). Someone decided that 1.08 was not an 'official' patch and so did not give it to Steam. I hope they (whoever they are) view 1.10 differently.

"set_retool_time value = X" works fine. But "change_retool_time value = X" does not - it works in the exact same way as "set_retool_time", rather then incerasing/decreasing the retooling time as it's supposed to.

Also note that the changelog now contains a line I had previously forgotten to add: AI no longer rotates its build list.
- This change did not really work out, as it introduces a delay proportional to (unit type build time * country IC) for getting any individual unit done.
So, a battleship is penalised more than a garrison, and a large country more than a small one.

It would be brilliant if you can fix the infrastructure bug that was already mentioned.

As in the one where you set a serial of infra to a province, but occasionally you cannot add the last one, so the serial maxes out at 195% and you have to separately build the last 5% of infra. It can be very annoying.

Also, another infrastructure related bug is that the AI does not stop its individual infra builds to 200%, but attempts to build even more to those provinces with maxed out infra, to no effect.
