1.10.1[dd56], ordinary difficulty, I use the Communist Party of China, China's resistance against Japanese aggression is too easy, Japan is a little weaker, the war until January 1939, Japan occupied less than a piece of Chinese land, Japan did not land in Shandong, Shanghai, Fujian

this still seems weird to me because i have never seen the chinese united front win. like ever.
in every game i play, unless i actively work against japan myself, japan always conquers china and then pretty much the rest of the world because the allies completely ignore them

I guess I see the opposite as Japan needing buffs and the Chinese being too strong, too organized, too much strength in their divisions.

So much so that if Germany sends 3 panzer divisons, they will probably spend the war in Tokyo sitting it out. If they send 3 infantry they will be on defense.

I wonder if human player affects this. Because Japan seems to do badly when I play Germany but Ok when I'm USA.

The other issue I see is that Japan doesn't have adequate air fields in the territory they occupy.

Yep you have to boost Japan, Germany to light. Italy you have to boost to medium, the Allies to medium as Standard or high if you wanna have a challenge.

Begunn testing the 1.10.1 "Collie" Patch and DLC "Battle for Bosporus" yesterday evening after a long downlad time, because most people used Steam yesterday (esp. in Germany).

I was hoping that they had solved this problem. China is so strong that it not only resists the Japanese offensive in the north, but pushes it by taking part of Manchuria, always since 1.9. By 1939, Japan could not even take Beijing, and the naval invasion along the coast began very late for Japan.

Have seen this since at least 1.9., but only really on historical focuses where I think the early trigger of "United Front" before the Marco Polo bridge combines to create a massive human wave to push back the Japanese forces into Manchuria from the moment the war begins. The IJA being weakened by the National Focus doesn't help.

In non-historical usually Japan manages to take China out piecemeal, and the difference is usually that the United Front forms only later (if ever).

Therefore, I think this is a key in why China seems historically OP.

Have seen this since at least 1.9

This is a game with version 1.8 "Fork" that plays the AI against itself...

20201027222913_1.jpg

By June 1938 Japan has already conquered northern China creating a uniform front that includes Mengkukuo. This is how it should happen. The truth is that it bothers me to see how China pushes Japan through Manchuria and it is not until mid-1939 that Japan attempts a (successful) naval invasion towards Nanking. If update 1.11 also includes rebalancing, they have to fix China's excessive strength.

I think in 1.8 Japan did not have the following AI strategy, forbidding invasions of AI China before 1939. But now he has.

Code:
jap_early_invasions_are_risky_and_best_wait_for_later = {
    enable = {
        tag = JAP
        date < 1939.1.1
        has_war_with = CHI
        CHI = { is_ai = yes }
    }

    abort_when_not_enabled = yes

    ai_strategy = {
        type = invade
        id = "CHI"
        value = -500
    }
}

Probably - contrary to the name of the strategy - it was written to help China out as before China was a complete pushover.

AI China doesn't have the forces to successfully defend the coast and manage the northern front as well i think.

The AI has serious difficulties with many dynamic small fronts caused by invasions as that stresses the theater/front management logic very hard as it's also evident from the Axis AI's difficulty of defending against early Allied invasions.

You might try and see what happens if you deactivate this strategy for Japan. I suppose Japan will perform a lot better but i'm not sure. But it is telling that the strategy is only activated against an AI China, the Japanese AI is allowed to invade a player China anytime :)

As a regular communist China player the Sino Japanese war always ends with Japan dominating the South West Pacific and South East Asia including the Raj. Britain’s navy is week and the USA don’t do anything. The US should be using subs against the Japanese convoys and restricting the flow of supplies. As Communist China I can contain their push, but I can’t if the encircle me and attack from the east, the south and the west.
