I'm playing as an English Merchant Republic, and decided to eliminate one of my competitors, a fellow patrician family in the same republic. They had a large family, and it took a long time and much toil to do away with them all by plots or outright assassinations -- but when I try to assassinate the final heir of the dynasty, the game crashes immediately. This is odd, because at least two other families have died out inside the republic and vanished by less violent means.
The first time a family died out, all of their trading posts disappeared instead of carrying over to their successor family. I was not under the impression that that was supposed to happen. The second time a family died out it was the successor to the previous one, and their trading posts did not disappear, at least as far as I noticed. I exterminated this third family (or attempted to, rather) with the faint hope that their trading posts might disappear also, because they have quite a lot of them. I suppose I'll report whether it works or not, if I can find a way to finish them off.
EDIT: Murder by plot also caused a CTD.
