I would please, what are the main arguments/ trains of thought made in these books? And how should these affect AoD (i.e. does China need lots more IC or infra or....?)

industries, most modern type industries where mainly light industries, distributed thought china, concentration in the major trade cities like Guandong, shanghai, tianjin, roads where basically pre industrial outside of those area's

AOD;
Infrastructure, the chinese did not manage to develop any serious rail infrastructure as it was already dependend on the widespread canal and river transportation system, outside of these the infrastructure basically remained very low though a lot of work was done in the central area under nationalist control (nanjing shanghai area) (river provinces high infra 40-50, 20-30 nonriver/non coastal)
IC, china has been short changed since early beta of hoi 2

Shanxi
beiping (4 IC) & Tianjin (4IC) where both major industrial cities, tianjin was a busy trade port as well as a development area for foreign investments , i would suggest both 4
minor; Taiyuan (capital 3IC) + Shijiazhuang (2IC)
Yuling, iron and coal deposits,
Datong, hohhot, coal extrations

Guanxi clique
Guangzhou 8 ic, major development area for foreign investments, including the Guangdong Arsenal
Hainan, iron extrations
Jiangmen, Tungsten - 5 rare

Yunnan
kunming, Jinhong, wenshan, metals total around 30
kunming - industry, foundries and metal works 5ic

my guesstimate for total ic of china and all warlords is in the range of 60-70 ic in 1936 based on what information i have read, 3/4th placed in eastern china (CHI,CGX,CSX)

overall, china exported a good deal of resources (energy, metals and rare materials) in 36-37 so providing a general boost to them would be beneficial, see attached map for regions though take heed it is a 1971 map not concurrent map

other fun stuff, china has had a lot of forts and fortresses built thoughout it's history most of which had some influence as bases of operation for the chinese armies though limited combat

And especially: Which resource values should those provinces in the Yunnan area have?
if you are refering to me?
yunnan produceds mainly copper, tin, lead and zinc... they where major producers of copper since the three kingdoms and the rail network served, guestimation around 30 metals - direct sources are in chinese and i do have a little trouble reading those

- AI bombers may perform night missions against human player. The night missions are determined by mission type, leader (nigh flyer trait), if the divisions are escorted and their current model. Now most of the early strategic bombing will be done by night.
Yesss, thank you Gunman :) .

Just a little remark: "Now most of the early strategic bombing will be done by night". I think that the UK should bomb mainly at nighttime during the whole war, as it historically happened (with the US airforce bombing at daytime - the so called "round the clock" bombing strategy).

A few remarks about a game (playing as Chile):

CHI has been brought to the brink of defeat in 1940 but recovered and cleared its south-western border by mid 1941.

ITA sends most of its troops to Africa, neglecting to garrison beach provinces, even some of the mainland. UK made some successful landings in Africa, but ignored the opportunities of ITA mainland.

GER had only built 56 INF when Barbarossa was started on JUN 23, 1941 (205 divs, including 66 GAR). They have failed to build up any offensive forces on the SOV border. No more than 3 divs per province could commence the assault. Most troops were stationed in FRA.

SOV on the other hand had 47 divs on the FIN border, at least 8 ARM and 8 MOT. Only after they had succeded in conquering a central FIN province they realized that they should use those divs against GER - three months after the GER attack started. During the first 4 months they lost some 35 INF, 1 ARM, and all 6 HQ but could hold the frontline.

obviously the AI takes surpression quite seriuos, if unrest is high.
how about: lowering unrest a bit and make some uprisings per event (pop up a 1918er INF instead of militia maybe?) would lead to lower surpression needs but is more trouble once an uprising occurrs

for CHI my preferences would be:
+ increase ress and IC as suggested by PB-DK
+ add a few landfortifikations (lvl 1-2) in chinas inner regions to help them hold at least the far reaches of CHI
- lower infra of several CHI provinces
+ give CHI an ESE bonus if that's possible (better knowledge of the country, more people to help out as carriers ....)
BUT:
- annex warlords a bit more historic (at least a couple of week of JAP-CHI war) but therefore with less dissent hit
+ give warlords the IC & ress to support their existing army (if not more)
- stop giving CHI ridiculous infra-levels (150 would be almost perfect trainsystem in the far inner reaches of CHI? give me a break!) always think: if JAP wins after all, these infra levels help them because they get "super-puppet"

A little clarification on the RAF bombing behavior:

of course, by suggesting that it should fly mostly at night during the course of the entire war, I was referring to strategic bombers performing industrial and strategic bombing missions (even logistical, maybe). All other types of missions (ground attack, airport strike etc.) should occur at daytime, as it is now.

if you are refering to me?

Mostly to you. I would like to adapt the resource and ic deployed in the existing AoD provinces to a level near history.

- stop giving CHI ridiculous infra-levels (150 would be almost perfect trainsystem in the far inner reaches of CHI? give me a break!) always think: if JAP wins after all, these infra levels help them because they get "super-puppet"

I intend to limit those events to 50%.

How about reducing buildtime, manpower and size per each infra build by 50%? This will make infra build show some effect earlier. A side effect would be gaining gearing bonus earlier.

that would probably lead to every province in a player nation being 200 by then end of 38...

The entire slider allocation for the AI should be reworked but that's a very complex task and will not be done in 1.08.
The most I can do is to add some straight forward barriers, to limit production or prevent adding new units to the building queue if the existing queue IC exceeds double of base IC or something like that.

I'd eventually like to see the option to tell the ai that it has to spend a certain minimum of its IC for producing supplies. In general construction of infra, production of units or supplies and also upgrading and repairing of units and infra should have an upper - and also a lower - limit so that we have more influence upon the IC usage by the ai. This would have the advantage that we can tell all neutral nations to produce something different than military units which would solve the issue of the global arms race once and for all. The percentage of military spending should go up if they decide to be less isolationist.

To increase the influence of doctrines upon the actual construction of units by the ai it seems to be worth considering to split the military construction section of the ai files into the three branches. This will introduce a new dynamic into an area of ai behaviour which is quite static during the entire game: newly researched doctrines can automatically (?) trigger the switch to another ai file which solely replaces the existing construction section of its own branch with a more modern one. Using random events we can even have one set of generic ai files for all ai nations which would be triggered once their specific doctrine has been researched. Then the ai will finally be able to react to new research discoveries and will also change the mix of used brigades accordingly. The ai would even be able to change its doctrinal path to another one without screwing its own ai files. Having different periods for the max_batch command of each branch will be helpful, too.

The balance of the 3 production programs would be entirely depending upon the strategic situation of the ai nation: e.g. Austria: army 80, air 20, navy 0, while otoh UK: army 30, air 20, navy 50. (gaining/losing access to the sea might shift the balance...) To properly assign the available IC each of the three building programs will be weighted by its strategic factor, i.e. changes of the strategic factors can heavily influence the number of produced units by the ai without even changing the building priorities, e.g. GER after the french surrender (more subs).

+1!!!!

The other suggestion is brilliant to but it looks like a very hard stuff to implement worthy of a completely new game and not a patch. But if possible then all hail to gunman indeed.

If anyone is willing to edit in PB-DK's suggestions (maybe PB-DK himself? ;) ) Then Japan would obviously need an overhaul as well as it can't go up against a 50IC China. But this could just be a vicious domino effect where all majors have to be edited to balance this all out so it might not be worth changing China's IC and resources overall. :)

japan does also need a few ic since the Kure and Sasebo naval arsenals seems to have been ignored, located in the hiroshima and fukuoka province (1188 & 1190) giving the provinces a boost to 8 ic each (from 4 to 8) should be sufficient
