In my first 1.07 game as Dublin, I gave Leinster to my firstborn son to prevent a breakup upon my death with gavelkind succession. After I gave him the county he had positive 82 relations with me. Less than 1 month later, my spymaster discovered that this very son was plotting to kill me. Said spymaster was subsequently murdered on the orders of my son. My son would not end his plot (the only modifiers it gave were -2 for base reluctance.) I was regularly checking the intrigue page and to my knowledge it never showed any backers. The plot event fired anyway and now I'm dead and my son has inherited the Duchy of Meath and the County of Dublin from me. Someone informed on him, so he has the kinslayer trait.

Here is the weird part. The character I was playing as also received the kinslayer trait after he died.

I have been playing this character from the beginning and have not had anyone at all killed. These events all happened towards the end of the year (I died after Christmas) and the previous save is an autosave from Jan 1. That is before this whole chain of events even started so I'm not going to post it unless somebody thinks it will actually be helpful. As of this last autosave my character did not have the kinslayer trait.

I'm pretty sure that it's a bug that my deceased character got this trait. I was under the impression that if a plot was known to you you could see all the backers and that at least one backer was required for the plot to trigger. If these are indeed correct statements than there might have been something bugged about the plot as well. I cannot say for sure on this because there was a very small 2-5 day window between the last time I checked for backers and my death. I've never encountered this before so I don't know if it was an already existing bug, or if it was caused by the new patch.

Well, you don't need to have backers for a plot to trigger - they just increase the potential and probability of your plot. If you can reproduce that the deceased, non-kinslaying character actually got branded a kinslayer, then that would perhaps be something worth looking into, and a save would definitely help there.
Regarding the opinion modifier only showing Base Reluctance, this has been reported and is being looked into.

I went back to my autosave and gave my son the title again. He proceeded to plot to kill me. After playing through many several times, whenever my son is discovered killing me, I also get the kinslayer trait on my now deceased character. I also get event popups from the perspective of my son (ex. when an attempt fails I get a message saying that the attempt failed but my involvement remains unknown.) I have the autosave which is before I landed my son, and a new save that I made after granting him the land and discovering a plot to kill me.

Hope those can give you the info you need to fix this. Thanks.

Edit: This game was using the Legacy of Rome DLC.

We are unfortunately unable to load these saves - have you been running any mods or in any other way perhaps affected the save?
I can load the saves (or, I only tried the second one) without a hitch. I let the game run until played character, Duke Murchad, was killed by the plot of his son, Earl Domnall.

  • I can confirm that upon his death, the victim gets the trait Kinslayer, as well as the instigator.
  • I can also confirm the weird behaviour that when the played character, the victim, survives an assasination attempt - I get to see the "oh noes we failed" popup that should show for the plotter.
I'll attach screenshots that shows this behaviour:
kinslaying_victim.jpg Victim gets Kinslayer
kinslaying_plotter.jpg Plotter gets Kinslayer (correctly)
wrong_plot_feedback.jpg Failed assassination attempt popup meant for the plotter shown for the victim

To complete my corroborating report, I was using a clean (COQS) install from Gamersgate + SoI & LoR (and assorted small dlc).
