I think anyone can convert a pagan - I tinkered with the game stats and made Lenape Hindu and gave them a 99% war score with the Iroquois, and I was able to select conversion as an option. So it isn't strictly limited to Christians and Moslems.

What is defined as an "offensive war" or "defensive war"???

I never ever knew that the game distinguished between an offender and a defender nation. This is so confusing when there are Alliance Wars going on. If I respond to my ally's call to battle, then I must "declare war" on the enemy. Does this make me an offender or a defender????

Confused.

Offensive war, that would be a war in which you or one of your allies sends out the DoW, making you the aggressor and giving 2 BB per province.
Defensive war, the opposite, either you or your allies receive a dow from another nation, you only get 1 bb per province taken in a peace deal. Please note however that when your peace deal includes the acquisition of land you are now considered in an offensive war with the remaining nations of the enemy alliance, thus giving 2 bb per province in other peace deals. In short you can only grab land from 1 nation from a hostile alliance at a rate of 1 BB per province in a defensive war.

And you can force convert a pagan nation to any Christian religion. Or is it any religion? Hmm.

Possibly the least important thing in the whole document. I'd be tempted to leave that qualifier out totally - it belongs in a different FAQ/guide.

Anyway, great work!

So on January 1 1619 with a king having 5 as dip value the threshold would be 30+5+10=45. And in 1719 with the "same" king it would be 50. Am I understanding you correctly?

If so this means the threshold for triggering BB wars relatively late in the game is _much_ higher in this release than it has ever been before.

Which was intentional too, as I understood it, to allow Napoleon some free reign.

I can confirm having seen +2BB for annexig different religion, posted by Johan.

And nice work kurtbrian :)

Is this new for 1.07? In my experience you can remain in a defensive war while aquireing provinces. If you are the alliance leader, and you make a separate peace with an ally of the enemy who declared war on you, then you are still in a defensive war. In any other case, your defensive war turns into an offensive war when you make a separate peace. (And I don't think it matters whether or not you take territory.)

IIRC, England starts in a defensive war in 1419, and if it makes peace with France last, each of the provinces aquired only cost 1 BB point each.

The 100 Years War

Is an offensive war for England. I know, as I joined France and was able to take the English parts of France for only 1BB apiece (as Spain too!).

Ah, sorry my bad, you are right of course. Most of my experience with defensive wars comes from with me joining alliances involved in defensive wars. A rather exploitative way of gaining territories without losing stab and gaining a minimum of bb points.

And yes, England is the offensive nation in the HYW, a good way of getting land if you have French culture, just join France in her alliance and conquer those English provinces on the continent while they are busy fighting the French.

I'm a bit surprised for +1 BB for each province when diplo-annexing a vassal, including colonies and TPs. For example, now I'm trying my first GC 1.07 with Castille (never played it! only Spain in 1.05 Age of Exploration!). I've diplovassalised Portugal in first mid of '400s and in the second half '400s I will try to diploannex it! How many BB points I'll take considering all its TPs in Brasil and Africa (most of which soon will be probably destroyed by indigenous inhabitants)???
