Ah yes the totally "ilogical" (I spelled that wrong on purpose before any of you complain) supply penalties that make it impossible for one to airlift 5 paratrooper divisions from Berlin and then drop then on Tannu Tuva! Or invade Texas as Japan! What an outrage!
It's illogical if you can't do a proper US island hopping campaign in the Pacific. Checking my history, I didn't need 24 divs to land on some godforsaken island to root out a couple divs of Japanese troops. Well, I suppose I could just tac bomb them to death in total ahistorical fashion (airpower is entirely too effective in HOI, IMO, but that's another issue). Hell, Guadalcanal was basically a slugfest against equal numbers of troops and with superior support the US and Aussies won. Try that in 1.06.
Some naval doctrines really need to have some modifiers to reduce the penalties. I don't mind penalties but I do mind penalties that prevent me from acting in a somewhat historical manner and I do mind penalties with no real way to lessen them. As the war went on, the US got to be damn good at supplying it's troops overseas but you sure can't see that in HOI. In fact, you are left wonder how on earth the US and Aussies even took a handful of islands while fighting in Europe which is utter rot.
Another possible fix would be to allow territory taken to be used to allow hopping to the next island. In the Pacific as the US its rough having to use Guam all the time. Didn't we take other islands like um Iwo Jima and Okinawa to allow for an attack on Japan (stockpile supplies for invasion)?
And just so you know, Warchaser, I am fully capable of playing the game with the penalties but that doesn't mean I find them accurate just like I don't agree that I need to annex a nation to suddenly and magically reduce my logistic penalty. I just took Palau, too bad I can't use it as the forward base for my navy like the US did in the Pacific and too bad I can't use Okinawa as a base to invade Japan. If only I could annex them so my logistic penalty disappeared!
Or we can look at the other side of the coin. I need to plan my actions due to my knowledge of the game engine so I must annex a nation so I don't have a logistics penalty invading the US. I know, I'll invade Costa Rica, the logistics capital of the world with it's great infrastructure and oh so friendly jungle terrain to lead an invasion of the US from, that makes perfect sense!!! Then I can easily invade Mexico and then the USA!
It's a terrible way to play a game about strategic warfare which makes your strategic planning revolve around the logistic effects. I think the Western Allies should have invaded neutral Nationalist Spain from North Africa to avoid logistic penalties or perhaps a nice invasion of Bulgaria so I can annex them!

Southhampton turning into a US province shows just how broken the penalties are. You have to turn a British province US just so you can do a proper Overlord rather than allow you to invade from an ally's territory.
This really needs some reworking, IMO. Oh wait, that's right, I don't like realism.
