New great looking tiles, many bug fixes, much more difficult for player ,total world conquest is now actually hard. If you go to download it their should be a list of changes and fixes on whatever site you do it at.

In general it's just a much more rounded game, that actually makes you think and plan ahead now. Tho to be honest some parts of naval combat has got worse...such as the potato-hurling convoys of death. Oh look, 50 battleships...and us...FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!

Ah yes the totally "ilogical" (I spelled that wrong on purpose before any of you complain) supply penalties that make it impossible for one to airlift 5 paratrooper divisions from Berlin and then drop then on Tannu Tuva! Or invade Texas as Japan! What an outrage!

Where in my post did I insinuate that I was talking about you? I was referring to the thread "why my elite german troops can't kill tannu tuva" or something like that.

It's illogical if you can't do a proper US island hopping campaign in the Pacific. Checking my history, I didn't need 24 divs to land on some godforsaken island to root out a couple divs of Japanese troops. Well, I suppose I could just tac bomb them to death in total ahistorical fashion (airpower is entirely too effective in HOI, IMO, but that's another issue). Hell, Guadalcanal was basically a slugfest against equal numbers of troops and with superior support the US and Aussies won. Try that in 1.06.

Some naval doctrines really need to have some modifiers to reduce the penalties. I don't mind penalties but I do mind penalties that prevent me from acting in a somewhat historical manner and I do mind penalties with no real way to lessen them. As the war went on, the US got to be damn good at supplying it's troops overseas but you sure can't see that in HOI. In fact, you are left wonder how on earth the US and Aussies even took a handful of islands while fighting in Europe which is utter rot.

Another possible fix would be to allow territory taken to be used to allow hopping to the next island. In the Pacific as the US its rough having to use Guam all the time. Didn't we take other islands like um Iwo Jima and Okinawa to allow for an attack on Japan (stockpile supplies for invasion)?

And just so you know, Warchaser, I am fully capable of playing the game with the penalties but that doesn't mean I find them accurate just like I don't agree that I need to annex a nation to suddenly and magically reduce my logistic penalty. I just took Palau, too bad I can't use it as the forward base for my navy like the US did in the Pacific and too bad I can't use Okinawa as a base to invade Japan. If only I could annex them so my logistic penalty disappeared!

Or we can look at the other side of the coin. I need to plan my actions due to my knowledge of the game engine so I must annex a nation so I don't have a logistics penalty invading the US. I know, I'll invade Costa Rica, the logistics capital of the world with it's great infrastructure and oh so friendly jungle terrain to lead an invasion of the US from, that makes perfect sense!!! Then I can easily invade Mexico and then the USA!

It's a terrible way to play a game about strategic warfare which makes your strategic planning revolve around the logistic effects. I think the Western Allies should have invaded neutral Nationalist Spain from North Africa to avoid logistic penalties or perhaps a nice invasion of Bulgaria so I can annex them! Southhampton turning into a US province shows just how broken the penalties are. You have to turn a British province US just so you can do a proper Overlord rather than allow you to invade from an ally's territory. :(

This really needs some reworking, IMO. Oh wait, that's right, I don't like realism.

Actually I wasn't the one that mentioned "realism", that was NC. If you read the thread I started then you'd know I don't think the logistic penalties are very realistic either, but they're damn (I wonder how many times I'll be able to say this word before I'm banned......) better than no penalty for invading Washington DC from Tokyo.

I'm not too good of a player, but I can say one thing about 1.06: My old strategy as Germany of taking Poland, and then the USSR, and then the other allies, doesn't work at all now. I try taking Poland (with superior divisions, superior commanders, etc) in mid 1936, but I can't! They all get slaughtered and retreat, and then the Poles take over Berlin! I really don't like this new series of events. And I don't understand how it is now possible. Can someone enlighten me?

As long as you use it in an expression and not as an insult, it's fine with me. Of course, i'd prefer a "they're way better", or "they're much better", but as long as you stay civil to the others, it's ok.

Take a look at what Germany was like in 1936 irl, then consider how realistic it is to be able to invade USSR at that time.

In 1936 the Polish army was larger and better than the German army. You need to remember that Germany just started to re-arm in 1936.

I think that the supply penalties are a good thing, but also that the fix has gone way overboard. We should be able to conquer an island and then supply that with transports as a forward logistical base. The logistical penalties would then apply from there. This would require the Japanese to take Hawaii or something in the Carribean to continue their conquest of America (and if anyone allows that to happen then they deserve to lose). The logistical penalty should not apply from your nearest "home" territory, but from where your units are supplied. As it is set up, the aspect of fighting in the pacific over the islands is almost eliminated, and IMHO wrong. Hell as Japan why hold onto the islands out on the periphery, just hold the phillipines, palau, guam, to japan line and the US will never get in. I like the idea of maneuvering fleets, air forces and amphibious/defensive units to fight for ground in the Pacific in order to advance or stop the inexorable fight to take the home country.

Is there some way to mod the 1.06 to tone this down or is it hard coded?
