I have this friend who has problems installing the 1.06 patch. I don't know what to do about it, maybe you do.

This is what he says:
Okay, so, i was wondering, can the directory path for installing 1.06 be redirected? it seems to automaticly go to the most recent install, which happens to be a mod. It wont go into the right folder, is there any way to make it do this?

I'm pretty certain there was a "Browse" button for choice of directory when I installed 1.06. But that was the nordic version, yours may be different.

There isnt. I suppose the patch install checks your registration. For example, I live in Holland, so i downloaded the UK version. The install told me EU2 wasnt on my pc. So i downloaded the NA version, which DID detect my EU2. So its either the wrong patch, or you should reinstall so that the register is complete.

EDIT: To check yer registry, go to 'Run Program' and run RegEdit .

UK version has a browse-possibility and probably every version has. The problem is often to get the correct version of the patch I guess ;).
Though also having various add-ons and mods installed could give problems. Perhaps a modified exe with the no-time-limit patch or something? That`s why the best way seems to be just t wipe out the whole old installation, deletting all the directories and start with a blanco install and then patch.

iirc AON modifies ur exe (through the time-patch). I could imagine that the patch-scan-thingy does not recognize the exe correctly when the thing is applied.
Only uninstalling it doesn`t re-backup the exe I think? or does it?

No, it wouldnt make sence to backup the exe, at least i dont think it would make sence :) . With games like these i usually uninstall it, the go through the registry to check if all stuff is deleted, the reinstall it. Tis the same problem with The Sims, ye need to kill all of the registry entries to be sure ur safe :p

Sure, just delete the the exe and put the backup in place where it belongs :D

EDIT: We could go on in dutch if ye like :p
That could still not work for the simple reason that the date of the file would be wrong. For multiplayer it seems that the gamne is even checking that so I wouldn`t be surprised if the patcher would check that of the exe file as well.
(and this is an english-only forum so no dutch whether I like it or not ;))

So if I'm understanding the issue correctly, your friend has two or more installations and wants to patch one of them and leave the other one "as is", the trouble being that the patch automatically applies itself to the most recent installation...in this case, the "wrong" one.

The easiest "fix" would be do a fresh install and then patch it directly since it will be the most recent install in the registry. He could then just erase the earlier one that he originally intended to patch..
