1.06 Reworked Kingdoms and Titles

I mod I created to reflect my opinion of how 1.05 should be 'fixed' for a more 'historical' game.

Includes de jure changes over history.
Norman Conquest
3C8CDFBC6399E7033571DFB384A4170912DEBA63

4EAB8D16F525FBD1BAE396FA13EE08F1C26402B8

Third Crusade
1FAAAA83766B45D9456337A4F7D0A95E96930727

138693C1D7656EF35AF903DE56528777A18C5E2C

Hundred Years War
99490345A811B7E20BF9CDFD44BAC4571A15B431

7BBBE71259FDAACFBB21D9242B82A576F68BFAF3

German duchies with EU3 colours to cheer up the area.
923FCE21960E6C8A74FF5A3F9EE0C37755E15A80

Includes unique titles like margrave, count palatine, voivoide, grand duke and count.

Changelog

-de jure golden horde (optional history files in its own folder)
-terra mariana (optional history files in its own folder)
-no de jure Spanish Galicia. (optional history files in its own folder)
-hansiatic league (kingdom title is in landed_titles to allow compatibility with the mod, no other changes)
-Wales is back to Brythain and includes hereford on early start dates to represent the lawless welsh marches.
-Kingdom of Scotland's de jure boarders reduced on early start dates to better reflect the ideas of the time. Galloway is part of Brythain before Scotland conquors it and Lothian and Northumberland are part of a new Kingdom of Northumbria until the period where Scotland and England got their boarders sorted out (york is also part of northumbria but assimilated to england by 1066). The Lord of the Isles has his proper title and is de jure part of Norway at the start.
-Pommeranians renamed to Wends
-Hungarian cultural homogenity changed. Titular Kingdom of Slovakia creatable only be west slavic.
-Decision to revive Great Moravia.
-Decision to unite Spain under a single kingdom
-A few culture specific titles for marshall added for non-latin and non-germans.
-Decision to remove Barcelona from France.
-A few bits of duchy reworking, mainly in Germany and Italy.
-Byzantine Empire renamed to Romania.
-Persian Empire added.
-Events to assimilate areas into the HRE.
-Genoa is a Kingdom level title to stop Venice being so smug. Ducal genoa renamed to Liguria.

1.2
-Post 4th crusade states reworked
- Anatolian Beyliks reworked
- Turkish Empire Added
- Kingdom of Khorasan (Khwarezm) split off from Persia.
- More archbishops, boyars, burgomeisters and viscounts
- Fixed kingdom of tuscany
- Added march of Gothia/Septimania
- Added titular kingdom of Greece
- Heir titles, King of Romans, Prince of Wales, Dauphine, Prince of Asturias, Prince of Girona
- Burgundy less under imperial control, hre has king title. Duchy of Burgundy moved to de jure france
- Restore Roman Empire decision

1.
3
- Decisions to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Nordmannia
- Some more provinces in the hre pagan at first
- Female versions of titles added
- Fixed province titles to actually show up (thanks to Aasmul in a differant thread)
- Thinks some text issues (thanks to Ruwaard)
- Beware, succession laws for union decisions still broken
- Added titular duchy of Saxe-Lauenburg
- Added ban title to Bosnia and some Wallachian provinces, Bosnia now becomes de jure part of a Kingdom of Bosnia rather than Serbia after Croatia-Hungary loses control
- Some more counties are de facto independant when they probably should be
- Added title of Viscount where appropriate.

1.06
- Had to recreate landed_titles.txt from scratch for sword of islam
- Compatable with the patch
- Some things deleted due to Paradox making them redundant
- Succession laws for union titles still not changeable but will be those of your previous title, not open elective
- County of Brandenberg now independant from Mecklenburg
- Teutonic order slightly broken due to promoting it to king tier but shouldn't cause major problems with play.
- Croatia and Sicily taken out of Byzantium to stop them just falling back under the Empire. Taurica put in instead.
- Persia is vanilla again for now until I can be bothered to redo the duchies.
- Bavaria back for now

1.06b

-fixed a problem that made the whole thing crash
-Changed creation/usurpation trigger to allow characters with a claim on the title to ignore the culture requirement.
-Provence no longer assimilated to France to represent that it wasn't officially part of france until later
-Empire of Russia now requires you to be orthodox and a claim on e_byzantium
-Ethiopian duchies reworked
-Religious heads for monophysites and ibadi 'heresies'.
-Added the hanseatic league as an unlanded duke vassal of the HRE who has some cities as vassals
-New event where a King of Germany can assimlate Lotharingia, Frisia and Bavaria if they have no holders for long enough
-More work on italy so that most of the cities gain their independance after the death of Matilda of Tuscany.
-Reworked duchies in Frisia.Added Danish as a possible culture for Frisia
-Added titular landgravate of Hesse, moved Plauen to Thuringia
-Gave Toulouse its dubious coastal vassals back to stop the muslims eating them only to lose them to the HRE and made them a nice red because I didn't like there being what looked like a bit of blue france under an independant purple aquitaine. Now it just looks like it should be part of the Angevin Empire so with every problem you solve...
-Messed around with duchies in france. Since none of them are really historical (most french ducal titles are of a much later date) I tried to go with gameplay and aesthetic reasons in mind.
-County (duke tier) of Artois now requires frankish culture to stop the Flemish AI splitting their lands up through gavelkind
-Added some honorary titles for hre bishops

May I use your titles/FOA for my mod? Have almost completed my rework of the HRE, with the right stem duchies etc(btw what did you think of my idea of putting Carintiha up as "Kingdom"? like I have done with the stemduchies, with Herzog as FOA)

How do you do the de jure changes with the different starts, through events?

Put "de_jure_liege = X" in the file in history/titles

Go ahead.

Don't really like Carinthia as a kingdom. It wasn't that powerful and didn't hold onto its italian marches for very long.

The alternative is a Bavaria that stretches from Cheb to Padova.....

Thruth be told I probably will make some personal tweaks, but this will greatly reduce my workload. Nice work!
BTW I also love those unique titles.

Excellent, Closet Skeleton, this is close to of what I was expecting to be able to play 1.05b without all those Fantasy Kingdoms (still too many impossible Kingdoms in Germany, though. Remember the Dutch didn't dare to crown a King before the HRE ceased to exist, even though they were Calvinists and had won their independence the hard way).

That said, I STRONGLY urge you to to integrate the De Jure lands of Galicia into De Jure Leon in 1066 [Galicia should remain independent, of course]. It's not just a case of that Kingdom not having been recognized by the Pope, it's that it had been set up in purpose just to be a titular crown, in order to enable all the Jimena brothers to start on an equal footing with each other.

It was never, ever, meant to be a 'normal' Kingdom by the people of the time, it was meant to be gone as soon as its holder died or got a 'proper' [e.g. leonese or castillian crown]. So to have it in means that the game is entering fantasyland even before we hit 'play'.

Also, how can one create Portugal and get it De Jure if they start as Portucale in 1066?

That apart, nice work!

Ruwaard, I'm interested in your work. What are you planning?

Okay here goes -- I hope all of these will display because there's a few and they're quite big.

This is my mod's de jure duchy and kingdom setup at present. Please remember that some changes have been done with balance in mind, such as making Holstein part of Denmark instead of the Holy Roman Empire or Hereford part of Wales instead of England.

Nice, Sleight of Hand, but remember: Brittany was always a separate De Jure land from France in the Middle Ages. ;)

Oh, and one question to everybody: in order to preserve those Kingdoms, where do we go to set the dynamic duchy change to "400", so that De Jure borders do not change?

Thanks for the help.

To which year does your last screenshot refer to? And, did you give Vexin to the Duchy of Valois? Leaving it to Normandy is crucial to have the Ducky not assimilating to England in game.

I like most of your changes, especially Brittany into France and the Byzantium split. I would further divide Epirus into Epirus proper and Byzantium, similarly as in the Prince and the Thane. I will work on a Latin Empire mod on the basis of that change (the kingdom of Byzantium would be the target of the crusade and the basis for the Latin Empire).

I don't like: a) Italy (I like Closet Skeleton's original work on it better), b) the Wales thing, although I understand the Balance issue (maybe you'd want to rename the kingdom Brythonia/Brythain, if you want to keep the change). As for Germany, I'd remove Lotharingia and put Pomerania as a "hipothetical" kingdom, to be removed from the de jure map in eventual starts, step by step.

I understand you'll be working on Iberia, Anatolia and the Balkans eventually, but are you going to make the setup dynamic to different starting dates as in the original work by Closet Skeleton? Finally, are you changing the Empires' de jure setup?

Excellent, Closet Skeleton, this is close to of what I was expecting to be able to play 1.05b without all those Fantasy Kingdoms (still too many impossible Kingdoms in Germany, though. Remember the Dutch didn't dare to crown a King before the HRE ceased to exist, even though they were Calvinists and had won their independence the hard way).

Kingdom of Frisia dates back to before Charlamagne and was probably pagan, but its an area that was almost impossible to control at the start of the time period. I'll take it out of the de jure HRE if I do another version and maybe have it assimilated into germany in later start dates.

That said, I STRONGLY urge you to to integrate Galicia into Leon in 1066.

Aragon and Castille were in the same boat so shouldn't be de jure either.

Galacia is culturally distinct and has a history going back to the Suevi (though portugal also claimed to be the successor to that same state), unlike Castile and Aragon which were brand new. It was never intended to be rolled back into Leon unless the line died out. The idea was to create multiple kingdoms united under a 'empire of spain', it just didn't work.

Leon shouldn't have de jure claims on Galacia at the start, only inheritance dispute ones.

I also tried to set things up for balance so that the christian kingdoms at the start had similar numbers of duchies. Giving Leon Galacia would just make it the largest by far.

Also, how can one create Portugal and get it De Jure if they start as Portucale in 1066?

Conquor Lisboa and you can create portugal as a titual title using portucal as your other duchy. I'll do an event that automatically puts Portucale into Portugal when its created if I do another version.
