What gives... this has nothing in it. I'm not even going to rehash all the problems that are left in the *game* at this point. This is now pathetic.

The exploits inherent to the system are just too gaping to have to always overlook them in playing the game- needing to make my own house rules to constantly limit myself is just not fun.

Goodbye for ANOTHER 5 months, Paradox.

Heh, paradox, truly.

LOL, did they even bother to fix the arrows sound effect in combat yet or is this going to be like the ledger bug in EU2 where the scores of your Monarchs is all screwed up and a simple math error is: "Too hard for us programmers to fix."

Well, if they'd gone the other way there'd be complaints to high-heaven about concentrating on the gaming issues and ignoring the CTDs. Since it's a no-win situation, I'm glad they fixed the CTDs.

Better to get something then nothing at all. Best bet is to lower your expectations of Paradox games and dont fall into the trap of waiting for patches. If you want to support them, sure buy the game, they wont say no to you, but this is consistant behavior from Paradox, all thier games get multiple patches over time.

No mystery here, maybe it didnt fix everything, but no patch will, this is Paradox, this is how thier games are, have a look around thier is should be no mystery as to what to expect.

I can honestly say 1.04 is significantly better in performance and stability than 1.03. We had a six player MP game yesterday that lasted for seven hours and we didn't get any CTDs at all.

But what about "vassals going independant" bug ????????? OMG I can't beleive it !
I agree - this IS pathetic, 4 months for a few insignificant fixes
edit: Wow ! "Excellent" job on the patch ! Haven't had a single crash in 1.03b, now thanks to the 04 the crashes are back again !

Even in 1.04a what kind of crashes are you getting?

What do you mean even ? :) 1.04 brought the crashes back, they were gone in 1.03b for me. I have the "windows encountered a critical error, must close the application" sort of crash.

Meaning there is a 1.04a version, same place than 1.04, but with the DB mismatch solved.

Think about it like this: CK is never going to have all the features that you want. But they've put a lot in. Also think that they haven't brought out a patch to victoria since the beta patch of May 24th. And that's not open to spanish users. From the looking around I've done there I don't see people complaining about how bad this patching business is: they're quite mature about it. But in the sense that this was a bit of an anti-climax, I agree.

They've put in a lot of halfassed features, that's what they've done. As for people being "quite mature about" Paradox beta-stage realease policy, I'd say it is the wrong word to use. Docile or apathetic are more applicable, though there has been more than a little discontenment as of late.

I agree with the original poster though, 1.04 is too little, too late.

I meant mature as in not complaining all the time about how bad paradox is and how they should put in every feature possible. Sure they're annoyed, but they don't start threads saying that they are stupid.

I agree with the first poster as well though. And I don't like having to have patches installed just to play the game. Looking at the 1.01 feature list I wonder how the bugs weren't spotted in beta.

If I didn't like Paradox's game so much, I'd have flamed them as soon as I came onto the boards if I saw a thread like this.

Fix CTDs = priority.

I already know (with a few amendments) how to make the game harder :-

At the start give pagan leaders high martial skills. Whenever they are in a war for the first 50 years, give them extra troops. They usually end up building very formidable empires. The Turkomen were by 1200 a force that was more threatening to Europe than the impending Mongol horde and which snuffed out the infant Lithuanian Kingdom I had created.

Perhaps somebody should rename the 1.04 thread to 1.04a thread, as it is otherwise not obvious that a new patch has been released. :)

Don't forget that 1.04 includes 1.3b changes as well, and I believe is a version they wanted to reach before a general release in the states which is supposed to come out as 1.4.

So take it in that vein. Whereas from 1.05 onwards, they can start experimenting more dramatically without the risk.

So it really is no wonder they are focusing on bugs instead.

Just a crying shame about that database mismatch error. Here's hoping that it is 1.04a that hits the American market, or that most American buyers download the latest 1.04a patch before they play.
