1.01 is more fun until it becomes too easy, I think. I'd start out on it then play 1.02 whenever you get bored.

The partisan issues I don't understand really. The only really annoying bug in the game engine is the 'annexation bug' or whatever the term is - the bug that causes provinces to revert to their owner whenever a peace treaty or annexation occurs. That's annoying.

Then there's the lack of fabric, sulphur, and the huge casualties but these are less annoying to me, IMHO. :D

for sanity's sake I consider partisans to be restive population in occupied territories that require extra policing. the battles are not as displayed... ;o)

those 'partisans' are a good incentive to bring a war to an early finish. Conquering Austria I had to deploy my reserve troops in each and every conquered province while my armies fought the battles. Eventually they spring up everywhere... arrgh! Time to annex Austria. *evil chuckle*

Given the issues with partisans in 1.02, should I install 1.01 and wait for 1.03? Or just put 1.02 on and go for it?

It might depend on what type of country you want to play besides how you want to play. The weaker the country the more fun you're likely to have using 1.01.

I've been using 1.01 since I got the game and since I'm still playing my first game (I know, I'm a slow/meticulous player) I have decided not to change to 1.02 but instead wait for 1.03.

I was playing 1.00 and switched to 1.02 and I like 1.02 very much. The only thing I see is that small nations tend to gather hundreds of thousands of soldiers, making it harder for you to annex them

Don't believe me?

It took me 4 wars to bring Luxembourg to its knees as Germany! They had 600,000 men well entrenched and supplied!!!

1.01 is easy, and you can make so much cash, even without abusing the Lux factories, which I never did except as 1 country, UK it was. Also in 1.01 you have to deal with monster Austria and its almost invincible army and fortified country.

1.02 you have to deal with partizans and the occupy bug with them, then you have to deal with lack of any goods like fabric and anything assosiated with it. Otherwise its pretty good, but so is 1.01. So its a choice of what you do more, do you industrialize more or go to war more. If its War I find 1.01 much better in most cases, if you like industry, I suggest 1.02 because they keeping it like it is.
