In a multiplayer game as France I peacefully switched to communism in the first year and a half, and the player in Germany delayed the Rhineland to prevent an early war with me and the UK. When the time came i decided to oppose the Rhineland since I there couldn't be a communist civil war when the communists had power (or so I thought)
There was a french civil war that lasted for one day, the duplicate french commune immediately surrendered to me, in the french commune, but it took over a dozen divisions of the maginot line preventing an early push into germany. I also had the option to change to Democratic having 'defeated the communists' to get the bonus to national unity.
