Most other major conversion mods managed fine

Hm...
AGOT last updated 12/04 but crashes after 30 years in game
Lux Invicta last updated 14/02 but unplayable because of the game limitations

WtWSMS 28/01
Middle Earth Project 04/12/2014
The Witcher Mod no news since a long time ago
Sonendar the same
...

I wouldn't say that the other major conversion mods managed fine. In fact only AGOT and Crisis of the Confederation managed to do so (and I don't know for CoC but it was hard even for the AGOT dev team). The Warhammer mod is still new and not very fun in the actual state. And I'm not even talking about all the conversion makers that couldn't even make a first version of their mods because the game updates too often.
All the conversion mods have difficulties to keep being updated with new content. The CK2 devs have been updating the game too often with too much unfinished content and bugs. And as they keep announcing new patches, the modder looks like a new Sisyphos.

Just to add to what Ezumiyr said, I would point out that EK do not have major bugs and game crashes.

Very short periods between updates are usually done when you need to fix bugs that are causing problems (that’s the reason for some of the AGOT updates). Bigger changes, new scenarios and additions come with a longer development cycle, and that’s what EK is experiencing now.

If you add to this the fact that the dev team is small (and was even smaller for a long time) and that Paradox dropped a bomb with WoL… things get explained. It would already be a long development cycle that got longer for those reasons.

And I think that 1.5 is still very enjoyable to play (if you don’t mind downgrading or created a second CK game just for it).

Just a small correction to Ezumiyr, Witcher mod got two releases and a hotfix in the past two months.

As for (0.)1.5, I totally agree with TMLC, it is very much enjoyable, though I prefer not to play until the next version comes due to the impregnated by lover bug.(I'd also be very very happy if the next version is named 1.6, not "0."1.6

Well I guess all the hard work of the people who have remained is ruined because of an arbitrary time limit. Seriously though, we're still working on it, and if we haven't given up on 1.6, than neither should you.
A question, out of curiosity, if I may; Should a new dlc or a big update come before you can release, will you try to adapt to it and begin the cycle anew, or will you release for the version that you were preparing for all this time, but got outdated? Personally, I'd prefer the latter, so that we may get our(MINE, especially) hands on the precious.

What if the version they are preparing for does not appear in beta builds after the next update. How would the average joe schmo play the "latest" version EK.

Well, better that than an unbroken circle of development, wouldn't you agree? But also, given enough requests, especially if the devs of the EK, which is a major mod for CK2 and probably reason for some people buying the game, just like it is with AGOT, also request it, I'd think paradox would make the release available. If not, I'll incite the common folk and the neglected for a revolt, overthrow the neglecting pesky paradoxians. Join to the Tamrielian Voluntary Militia now, people! The popular uprising for getting the build mod team built for as a beta build.

So what is the new dejure system for the Islands (The ones between Akavir and Tamriel) anyway? And have they been given an Empire? Because in 1.5 they are the only area of the map with no empire to claim them (Apart from Atmora I think, or does the Nordic Empire get claims there?).

When I played my playthrough as the last of the Chimer I found the lack of any Empire tier titles to claim rather annoying, since without one my tech grows slower and I can hold less demense overall.

Which reminds me, the mod developers did turn off that god-awful kingdom/empire creation thing that Charlemagne added right? In their current dev version of 1.6 I mean. Main reason I ask is because that mechanic can seriously ruin any playthrough because the AI just doesn't understand how to use it correctly leading to blotches of random unconnected duchies held by a kingdom that if it dissolved changes names to a series of numbers like k-dyn39047822348346. And let me tell you, a bunch of white (seems all the kingdoms default to that post-dissolution) toned kingdoms whose name on the map is numbered gibberish is very immersion breaking.

I'm going to try and include a formable empire for everything. But no promises it'll be done by 1.6.

Yep, I missed it. Mea culpa !

Now of course you can also play AGOT and Lux Invicta without experiencing bugs, but the Elder Kings has indeed less bugs and less weird things (even if you don't crash when playing the AGOT mod, it doesn't really work as intended for everything... Not speaking about the many bland regions that are still in the mod. Let's remember that the Elder Kings team has been reworking half of the world...).

You guys really shouldn't be making this an EK versus AGOT versus Witcher etc. debate on which is better supported, or better made, or can make their mommies more proud. Especially here, or anywhere on the Paradox forums in my opinion. These wonderful people who call themselves modders do this in their spare time for free. Discussions like these are better served on Reddit or a children's playground.

Each of these mods that have been mentioned are very different in what they are attempting to accomplish. You cannot make comparisons other that the facts that they are mods, and they require CKII to play. AGOT/ASOIAF (now) has one of the single biggest fandoms in existence right now. Hence why they have a bigger team, they did get lucky in terms of talent though, but lost some as well. EK was Korbah's from the beginning I believe, but he has admitted to not having the focus and drive to mod this game.

That being said, much love to the devs, my obligatory plea to implement the Battlespire somehow,

As someone that mentioned the AGOT above, I must ask: was a “versus” situation being made?

I was comparing both mods to arguments about the development cycle, not to argue like a child, as you implied.

It is more than valid to look beyond your own borders to identify positives and negatives. To understand why one update every week and the other every some months. To find out which system works best for you.

And it is only when you make comparisons that you can say something like “since AGOT has a bigger development team, they can release quick fixes while, on the other hand, EK should focus on longer development cycles since he cannot afford to release quick fixes in case of many bugs.

Just to resume, comparisons can go beyond the “which one has the bigger one”.

I'd be content with 0.1.5 made compatible with 2.3.4 as a stopgap measure. I'm frankly itching to play EK again because I never got around to playing in Morrowind like I meant to. Just without all the old bugs.

For the convenience of those who don't have the time to go through the entirety of this thread, all released screenshots can be found on the /r/ElderKings subreddit, though I will obviously not link it as I believe it is against the rules to do so. Just putting it out there.
