Chapter 289: Left and Right

"I don't understand why they're trying to shut down soup kitchens that are promoting their ideas. Maybe they're not doing it well enough? In any case it's amusing."
-Foreign Minister Franz von Papen

"The Reich is superior at everything, especially football."
-Vice Chancellor Markos Angelos

As the summer began, Chandra Gupta continued consolidating his power over Indian society. However, for some reason he chose to target soup kitchens that were already pro-Rasa. These soup kitchens had been instrumental in securing his victory over Nehru, but now he claimed that they had "been corrupted by Muslims and their halal products" and had to go. The ensuing spectacle was amusing, to say the least.

In the Reich, Amalie Earhardt's record flight from Neu Brandenburg to Berlin was broken by another woman pilot, Amy Johannson, who made a solo nonstop flight from New Prague, in Mittagsland, to Berlin. Baghdad was slightly damaged by an earthquake, which was easily handled by local authorities. View attachment 213982 View attachment 213984
In the Eimericas, the troops of the Vinlandic Republican Army overran Cree, which had foolishly decided to help out Huron, and Cree's leadership was forced to surrender just before their collective public executions. Meanwhile, the first World Cup was organized in Neu Rhomania, with the Reich decisively defeating Tawantinsuyu in the finals 7-1, showing that it was superior not only on the battlefield but also in sports. Pachacutec claimed that the results were invalid, because most of his country's best players had been killed or conscripted by his army or by Inca Roca Yupanqui's Nationalist Party.

Meanwhile, Chandra Gupta realized the drawbacks of his "war on kitchens" strategy and quickly withdrew it, replacing it with dozens of rallies all over the country. The first of these unity-boosting rallies took place in Jodhpur, where locals eagerly signed up for party membership. View attachment 213991
In the Reich, public anger continued to rise, and the threat of an equalist rebellion reached its highest level since 1910. After a police officer accidentally shot and killed a Balinese boy, the Balinese rioted, within days taking control of the island of Bali and declaring an independent Socialist Republic of Bali. Ferdinand Foch, whose legion was stationed on a nearby island, was promptly sent in to deal with them. His legion killed all of them within ten days.

In late July, the Union of Seven Republics declared war on the Cherokee Republic over the region of South Rhotinonsionni, whose working class the USR leadership claimed were being exploited by "evil capitalists and reactionaries." View attachment 213992 View attachment 213993
In August, a new book appeared in Indian stores. It was called the "Protocols of the Elders of Mecca" and was immediately denounced by all literary critics as being completely filled with conspiracy theories and a blatant attempt to demonize Muslims without any evidence at all. The book was promptly banned from every country except India, where it became a national bestseller, required reading in elementary schools, and Gupta's official "favorite book," as he told cheering crowds in Hyderabad three weeks later. Coincidentally, violence and incidents of discrimination against Muslims shot up a week after the book was published.View attachment 213994 View attachment 213995
To increase national unity, in September Hindenburg decided to organize a trade fair the next month. A hurricane struck Mayapan's capital, New Peten, a week before the fair was set to open, causing extensive damage and crippling the government for several weeks afterwards. Attempts to relieve the regions hardest hit were poorly organized, causing riots on various Mayan islands, especially those dominated by Nahua majorities.

At the end of the month, the Cherokee Republic surrendered to the USR, agreeing to cede South Rhotinonsionni in exchange for the USR promising not to wage any further wars against it. In an ironic move for an equalist regime, the USR's politburo immediately ordered the population of the region enslaved and sent off to gulags along the Vinlandic border.View attachment 213996 View attachment 213998 View attachment 213999 View attachment 214000 View attachment 214001 View attachment 214002
In November, the Socialist Republic of Huron surrendered to the Union of Vinland, which imposed a ruthless military administration, executed all military and political leaders, and sent several thousand civilians off to gulags on the Arctic Circle. Thus Vinland came close to restoring the borders of the former Kingdom of Kanata. All that remained was the Commune of Old Vinland along the Atlantic Coast, whose independence Chairman Trotsky had personally guaranteed. Seeing as further military expansion was not an option, Chairman Erikson and the People's Allthing decided to wage a shadow war against Vinland's non-equalist neighbors. The first target was the weakened Mayapan. Vinlandic agents infiltrated the islands that were hardest hit by the hurricane and most likely to be swayed by Erikson's promises of a workers' paradise in the Caribbean.

The equalists weren't the only ideological faction that had went on the offensive. In Asia, Reza Khan decided to follow in Vinland's footsteps. He declared that it was necessary for Iran to achieve its natural borders. However, his cabinet was divided on what constituted Iran's "natural borders." The official stance was to retake what the government under Golpari I had claimed, namely land in Turkestan, Zunbilstan, and Paksthana, as well as the coastal territories ceded to the Reich. A few ministers wanted to expand Iran to the borders it had established under the reign of Shahanshah Yunus I "the Saoshyant" in the 12th century, while a handful wanted to restore the borders of the Persian Empire of Cyrus the Great and Xerxes. Until the government came to an agreement on how much to expand, Reza could not actually do anything and focused on building up a military capable of carrying out such wars of conquest.View attachment 214003 View attachment 214004 View attachment 214005
As 1930 ended, the stock markets of both the CSA and Abyssinia crashed again, taking with them the global economy. The Great Depression intensified yet again, driving up unemployment in the Reich as companies found themselves unable to sell goods and services because foreign manufacturers had run out of materials. These events were brought up at the 1931 Hyderabad rally, where Gupta denounced the "incompetent capitalists" in charge of the world economy for driving once great nations into the ground. In that speech, he also announced plans to nationalize most of India's factories and place them under firm state control. Fearing that they would lose their investments in India, Finnish and Afghan investors sold their stocks so rapidly that they destabilized their countries' stock markets.View attachment 214006 View attachment 214007 View attachment 214008 View attachment 214009 View attachment 214010
In March, the IOC began preparations for the 1932 Olympics, but for some reason they awarded the games to the Commune of Michigan, which immediately rejected it as a "tool of the capitalist scum." As the IOC had not expected Michigan to reject the award, they did not have anybody else to award the games to. Fear that the Olympics might just have been ended for good inexplicably caused the Abyssinian stock market to crash a second time, worsening the Great Depression even more. It was only a week after Abyssinia's stock market crashed that the IOC announced it would attempt to find another host nation later on in the year, assuring investors that the Olympics would continue.View attachment 214011 View attachment 214012 View attachment 214013
In April, the Council of Nations formally revoked Tawantinsuyu's seat on the Executive Council, arguing that a country that was suffering such an intense civil war was not able to fulfill its responsibilities as a member of the Executive Council. The logical choice, in terms of industrial base and military strength, to replace Tawantinsuyu was Michigan, but since the equalist government in Michigan City was both equalist and not internationally recognized the Council refused to give Michigan the seat and instead gave it to Noregr as an "honorary seat."

Meanwhile in Asia, Chancellor Wang Jingwei started following through on his promise to restore the Sinocentric world order.

Chinese economic presence and political interest in Nepal had been growing ever since the establishment of the country's independence. The Treaty of Samarkand that ended the war in Asia had granted China the lease of the South Himalayas Railway branch of the China Far East Railway.

In Nanjing in April 1931, a national leadership conference of the Chinese Empire was held between Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei. They agreed to assert China's influence in Nepal strongly, as India had been subverting China's control over the country ever since Chandra Gupta rose to power.

Believing that a conflict in Nepal would be in the best interests of China, Guangdong Army Colonel Song Jiating and Lieutenant Colonel Kai Yiwen independently devised a plan to prompt Japan to invade Manchuria by provoking an incident from Chinese forces stationed nearby. However, after the Chinese Minister of War Chiang Kai-Shek dispatched Major General Yan Shinan to Tibet for the specific purpose of curbing the insubordination and militarist behavior of the Guangdong Army, Song and Kai knew that they no longer had the luxury of waiting for the Nepalese to respond to provocations but had to stage their own.

Song and Kai chose to sabotage the rail section in an area near Kathmandu. The area had no official name and was not militarily important to either the Nepalese or the Chinese, but it was only eight hundred metres away from a nearby Chinese garrison, where troops under the command of the "Young Marshal" Zhang Xueliang were stationed. The alleged Chinese plan was to attract Nepalese troops by an explosion and then blame them for having caused the disturbance in order to provide a pretext for a formal Chinese invasion. In addition, they intended to make the sabotage appear more convincing as a calculated Indian-supported Nepalese attack on an essential target, thereby making the expected Chinese reaction appear as a legitimate measure to protect a vital railway of industrial and economic importance. The choice to place the explosives at this site was to preclude the extensive rebuilding that would have been necessitated had the site actually been a railway bridge.

The plan was executed when 1st Lieutenant Xu Keliang of the Independent Garrison Unit (独立守備隊) of the 29th Infantry Regiment, which guarded the East Nepal Railway, placed explosives near the tracks, but far enough away to do no real damage. At around 10:20 PM, April 8, the explosives were detonated. However, the explosion was minor and only a 1.5-meter section on one side of the rail was damaged. In fact, a train from Kathmandu passed by the site on this damaged track without difficulty and arrived at Myitkyina at 10:30 PM.

On the morning of the following day (April 9), two artillery pieces installed at the Kathmandu officers' club opened fire on the Nepalese garrison nearby, in response to the alleged Nepalese attack on the railway. Nepal's small air force was destroyed, and Nepalese soldiers fled their destroyed barracks, as five hundred Chinese troops attacked the Nepalese garrison of around seven thousand. The Nepalese troops were no match for the experienced Chinese troops. By the evening, the fighting was over, and the Chinese had occupied Kathmandu at the cost of five hundred Nepalese lives and only two Chinese lives.

Commander-in-Chief of the Guangdong Army General Shu Huanjing was at first appalled that the invasion plan was enacted without his permission, but he was eventually convinced by Kai to give his approval after the fact. Shu moved the temporary Guangdong Army headquarters from Guangzhou to Lhasa and ordered reinforcements sent in. At 04:00 on 14 April, Kathmandu was declared secure.

The commander in chief of the Nepalese armies, on recommendation of his Indian advisers, had already urged his men not to put up a fight and to store away any weapons in case the Chinese invaded (a piece of information that the Chinese advisers to the Nepalese army knew ahead of time, hence facilitating the planning). Therefore, the Chinese soldiers proceeded to occupy and garrison major Nepalese cities and their surrounding areas with minimal difficulty. Despite some local resistance, within five days of the incident, the Imperial Chinese Army had overrun all major towns and cities in Nepal.

Because most of the military had been immobilized by the rapid Chinese offensive, the central government turned to the international community for a peaceful resolution. The Nepalese Foreign Ministry issued a strong protest to the Chinese government and called for the immediate stop to Chinese military operations in Nepal, and appealed to the Council of Nations, on April 19. On April 24, the Council of Nations's Assembly passed a resolution mandating the withdrawal of Chinese troops, to be completed by May 16. However, China rejected the League of Nations resolution and insisted on direct negotiations with the Nepalese government. Negotiations went on intermittently without much result.

Meanwhile, Wang Jingwei was caught off-guard by the Guangdong Army's actions, which had not been cleared by the government. He had not planned on lauching any offensive operations against Nepal, but he decided to run with the army's actions for now, hoping that the generals would come to their senses and withdraw to Tibet soon enough. When the SS Nanjing exploded off the coast of Bengal ten days later in an apparent false flag operation against India (meeting the same fate as its namesake, ironically), he realized that the army would not back down. To stop them from invading India, on the 26th of April he instead ordered the reorganization of the Nepalese government into a pro-Chinese one and tasked the army with helping set up the new government. The king of Nepal would remain in power, but the elected government would be filled with pro-Chinese politicians and the military and economy would be placed under Chinese control. In short, Nepal was turned into a Chinese puppet, firmly pushing it into the Chinese sphere of influence.

On May 2, the Luneburg Report was published and rejected the Chinese claim that the Nepalese invasion and occupation was an act of self-defense, although it did not assert that the Japanese had perpetrated the initial bombing of the railroad. The report ascertained that the new Nepalese government was the product of Chinese military aggression in the Himalayas, while recognizing that China had legitimate concerns in Nepal because of its economic ties there. The Council of Nations refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the pro-Chinese Nepalese government, which ultimately led China to withdraw from the Council of Nations two years later.

The two days between the explosion of the Nanjing and the establishment of the new Nepalese government caused chaos in the world market yet again, inexplicably resulting in Danmark's stock market crashing and worsening the effects of the Great Depression on the Reich. It seemed like the world economy would continue to plummet for a long time, with no end in sight.View attachment 214016 View attachment 214017

But at least respect the rights of superstitious individuals like us. And atheism is an official heresy as declared by the Church, punishable by immediate purging a visit and chat from your local neighborhood Inquisitor.:D

He also condemned the Austro-Hungarian Empire to death by Mingsplosion, preaching "self-determination of nations" of white Eastern Europeans while denying it to Africans and Asians.

Or even a--gasp--REPUBLICAN?! HERETIC TRAITOR SCUM! BURN!!!!

(Yeah, I'm also acting as well, I actually respect all religious beliefs including atheism. Though as an extremely moderate monarchist I can't say the same about republicans...:p)

In the wake of the latest stock market crash, Franz von Papen tried to reach out to China to negotiate a trade deal, which could possibly lessen the effects of the Great Depression on both of their countries. However, the Roman ambassador arrived in Nanjing at the same time radicalized army officers launched a coup against the government, attempting to overthrow Wang and install a military dictatorship. By the time loyalist soldiers had put down the coup several hours later, both sides had given up on negotiations after the Chinese officials repeatedly insulted the ambassador for his supposed "arrogance."

While Nanjing was distracted by the coup, the king of Nepal decided to retake control of his country from the Chinese. Elements of the Nepalese army still loyal to him marched on Kathmandu and stormed the parliament building, arresting all of the politicians there. The king declared that the constitution was now suspended and replaced with a Roman-style legal code. The elected government was abolished and all power was centralized under the king. However, the Chinese retained significant control over the Nepalese army and the economy, meaning that Nepal was still effectively a Chinese puppet. Wang decided to leave the new absolutist government alone, though.

In the Eimericas, Lenape's constitutional monarchy, which had been forced upon the country by rebels a few years ago, started breaking down. Political gridlock had paralyzed the government's ability to legislate, increasing public unrest. News that the majority party had been voting down every single piece of legislation after receiving large sums of money from corporations was the final straw, and thousands of civilians rioted in the streets. By late August they had overrun the capital and taken control of all government buildings.

However, the rebels didn't know what to do with their victory. Some wanted to end the constitutional government and restore absolutism. Others wanted to install a fascist dictatorship. Still others wanted to join the Cherokee Republic. It took the unexpected public execution of the entire royal family by the most radical rebels for the rebels to agree on what to do. Arguing that it was the monarchy that was causing the political gridlock and incompetence, they abolished the monarchy and established the Lenape Republic, to the protest of the general population, which took up arms against the new regime.

Revolution also swept the Cherokee Republic, where revolutionary rebels toppled the democratic regime and replaced it with a government that was basically the same as the original. The ensuing instability in the country gave the Commune of Michigan an opportunity to expand, and a couple weeks later they declared war on the Cherokee Republic.

With the rise of fascism in South and Southwest Asia, the people of Paksthana were worried about their continued independence. For protection they turned to socialist demagogues who promised land reform, welfare benefits, and "ideological immunity" to the fascists in Delhi and Isfahan.

The United Baltic State announced that it would attend at least one of the Olympics being hosted in Berlin, Delhi, and Helsinki.

As the average worker's economic future became more and more threatened by the Great Depression, those who still had something organized into labor unions, especially in eastern Gallia. Several local aristoi approached the government, asking for Otto's help in protecting their rights by sending some legions to "deal with" the unions. Knowing what could have happened if that was tried in 1926, Otto refused. As a result, the aristoi and capitalists took matters into their own hands, sending agents to infiltrate and destroy trade unions before an incident in Cyprus brought the matter to the government's attention. Otto promptly forced the "union busters" to disband.

The Kingdom of Noregr was a fragile construct from the day it was set up. Native Scandinavians and Kanatans didn't really get along that well because of slight linguistic and cultural differences. Riots in the cities were quite common, especially in the capital. It soon got to the point that King Gnupa II appealed to Otto for military support, which was granted at once. One legion was deployed to Hardradasborg and quickly crushed all resistance, reinforcing the Kanatan government's grip on power.

By now stock markets crashing and the global economic crisis worsening was a common occurrence, and nobody paid much attention to it. Most had given up hope of a recovery three years ago. They stocked up on supplies, got whatever finances they still had in order, and settled in for the long haul. It was clear that prosperity would not return for a long time.

Mate, I meant getting America in the war. Germany REALLY wasn't at fault in starting the damn thing. Serbia gets of scot free, and even became a unified nation, and THEN STARTS BEING A ****ING TWAT TO ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT WANT TO ****ING BE THERE. Austria-Hungary should have had a spare heir lying around, but imperalism's a complain, and Russia REALLY should have modernised by now, but lol NOPE, because Nicholas the II is an idiot. I mean, HE LOST TO JAPAN, A NATION THAT ISNT EVEN A TENTH THE SIZE OF RUSSIA! And actually, if the UK wouldn't have come in if Germany hadn't started attacking Belgium, but to be fair, they wanted access, and Belgium said no, so then they use force, though in all honestly the Molkte plan was way better than the schflien. (think i spelt that right.). I think without the Uk, the entente would have lost. Russia is gone hook, line, and sinker as soon as they join the war, Some extra troops in Russia would have made them go Soviet earlier i think, plus france would be exhausted. Then when 2 million angry germans come along, the Americans won't be mobilised by the, and then its BAGUETTES IN PARIS FOR EVERYBODY!
That about sums it up.:D

Vinland = Kaiserreich's Union of Britain, sort of.

There will be a Night of the Long Knives equivalent event coming up. The one in the previous update wasn't the Night of the Long Knives. It was just a vanilla event I thought was funny enough to share.

What I was going for was that the IOC got pissed off by being repeatedly rejected by all of the countries it chose (it selected equalist and fascist regimes first), so when everybody else starts complaining they vent their rage on the other countries by awarding multiple games and screwing them over as much as possible. Hopefully the NWO Olympics mechanics will fix that. Expect all of the Olympics after 1948 to be hosted by the Reich (or China, but mostly the Reich).:p

Remember that time when Scandinavia bankrupted itself trying to join the IOC, provoking an invasion from the Reich? Don't mess with the IOC.:D

Otto promptly forced the "union busters" to disband.View attachment 214229 View attachment 214230 View attachment 214231 View attachment 214232 View attachment 214233 View attachment 214234 View attachment 214235

Rasa-affiliated thugs rampaged through towns, harassing locals into supporting the Party and "dealing" with those responsible. The Party itself refused to support or condemn these thugs. But when some of them organized into an Iranian-style blackshirt organization, the Party promptly cracked down on them. There could only be one fascist organization in India.

Reactions:

Long live the IOC! We've had enough of fascism, democracy, absolutism and equalism, olimpicscracy is the way!

Chapter 291: Bombs Over Kolkata

"Treachery! Those...barbarians!"
-Wang Jingwei

"How DARE the barbarians desecrate our sacred motherland!"
-Chandra Gupta

Tsarist Russia and Indian Africa, the latter of which was dealing with a small fascist uprising, passed laws establishing national banks in late January, hoping to use them to weaken the effects of the Great Depression on their countries.

On February 3, as the Xuantong Emperor was departing the Imperial Palace via Tiananmen Gate on his way to reviewing a military parade, Li Bingchang, a member of the Chinese Republican Legion, a paramilitary organization dedicated to abolishing the monarchy and establishing a republic, threw a hand grenade at the emperor's horse carriage.

Li knew of the emperor's schedule from a newspaper article, and managed to approach close to the procession disguised as a Jinyiwei military policeman. However, the hand grenade missed, and exploded near the carriage of Imperial Household Minister Baron Kai Yiwen instead, killing two horses. The would-be assassin was quickly apprehended by the Imperial Guard.

Li was convicted two weeks later and was executed a month afterwards..

To take responsibility for the lapse in security, Chiang Kai-Shek offered his resignation, which was not accepted by the emperor.

The attempted assassination had no impact on Chinese policies, and was quickly dismissed as an isolated terrorist incident. However, events taking place a little bit later had a significant impact on both Chinese policy and the geopolitical situation in Asia.

After the Himalayan Incident, China had acquired the vast Himalayan range and would eventually establish a puppet government in Nepal. However, the Chinese military planned to increase Chinese influence further, especially into Kolkata, a bustling port city through which Indian Ocean trade flowed.

In order to provide a casus belli to justify further military action in India, the Chinese military instigated seemingly anti-Chinese incidents. On January 18, five Chinese Buddhist monks, members of an ardently nationalist sect, were beaten near a factory by agitated Indian civilians. Two were seriously injured, and one died. Over the next few hours, a group burnt down the factory (sources argue this was orchestrated by Chinese agents, though it might have been carried out by Indians in response to the Kolkata Municipal Police's aggressive anti-riot tactics in the aftermath of the beating of the monks).

One policeman was killed and several more hurt when they arrived to quell the disorder. This caused an upsurge of anti-Chinese protests in the city, with Indian residents of Kolkata marching onto the streets and calling for a boycott of Chinese-made goods.

The situation continued to deteriorate over the next week. By February 6, the Indian military had already concentrated some 30 ships, 40 airplanes and nearly 7,000 troops around the shoreline of Kolkata to put down any resistance in the event that violence broke out. The military's justification was that it had to defend its citizens.

The Chinese issued an ultimatum to the Kolkata Municipal Council demanding public condemnation and monetary compensation by the Indians for any Chinese property damaged in the monk incident, and demanding that the Indian government take active steps to suppress further anti-Chinese protests in the city. During the afternoon of January 28, the Kolkata Municipal Council agreed to these demands.

Throughout this period, the Indian 19th Army had been massing outside the city, causing consternation to the civil Indian administration of the city. The 19th Army was generally viewed as little more than a nuisance, as it was inferior to the Chinese military in tactics and training. In the end, Kolkata donated a substantial bribe to the 19th Army, hoping that its generals would leave and not incite a Chinese attack.

However, at midnight on February 7, Chinese carrier aircraft from the ICN Fengxiang bombed Kolkata in the first major aircraft carrier action in Asia. Three thousand Chinese troops attacked targets, such as the northern train station, around the city and began an invasion of the de facto Chinese special economic zone and other areas. In what was a surprising about-face for many, the 19th Army, which many had expected to leave after having been paid, stayed to put up a fierce resistance, after Bose personally gave it orders to "resist the eastern barbarians."

The conflict soon spread outwards to much of Kolkata.

Because Kolkata was a metropolitan city with many foreign interests invested in it, other countries, such as the Reich, Iran, and Abyssinia attempted to negotiate a ceasefire between China and India. However, China refused, continuing instead to mobilize troops in the region. On February 12, Roman representatives brokered a half-day cease fire for humanitarian relief to civilians caught in the crossfire.

On February 20, Chinese bombardments were increased to force the Indians away from their defensive positions near the coast, while commercial and residential districts of the city were set on fire. The Indian defensive positions deteriorated rapidly without naval and armored support, with the number of defenders dwindling to fewer than 50,000. Chinese forces increased to over a 100,000 troops, backed by aerial and naval bombardments.

On February 29, the Chinese 11th Infantry Division landed behind Indian lines. The defenders launched a desperate counterattack immediately but were unable to dislodge the Chinese. By evening, the 19th Army issued a telegram stating that it was necessary to withdraw from Kolkata due to lack of supplies and manpower. The next day, the Reich negotiated a ceasefire between India and China. The 19th Army and the Imperial Chinese Navy retreated from Kolkata, marking the official end of the battle.

A few days later, the Commune of Michigan invaded Sioux, sparking a scramble by the other members of the Executive Council to secure their investments in the country. India, the Soviet Commune, and the CSA quickly withdrew their assets, while China, Abyssinia, the Commune of Michigan, and the Reich sent in troops to protect their assets. The great power contention in Sioux caused the stock markets in neighboring Pueblo to crash.

A week later they offered the Olympics to the CSA, which also declined to host the games, causing Zunbilistan's stock market to crash. Mali's stock market crashed in June, worsening the effects of the Great Depression on the Reich.

China's general elections finished in July with the Guomindang again claiming victory. The emperor appointed Wang Jingwei to a second term as Chancellor.

In August, pro-Angeloi citizens in eastern Switzerland formed a blackshirt paramilitary group which was quickly endorsed by the Angeloi dynasty. To avoid conflict with the Angeloi, Otto ordered sanctions and restrictions imposed on the group but otherwise left them alone as long as they didn't stir up any trouble.

In mid-August, the Commune of Michigan's troops finally overran the last Sioux strongholds and annexed the country into the equalist dictatorship. The nobility, priesthood, and capitalists were either shot in public or sent off to gulags on the coast of the Great Lakes.

India was late in handing out medals to other participants of its Olympics, namely Abyssinia, which received its medals in late August.

In early September, Konrad Adenauer, the former leader of the 1926 General Strike, presided over the opening of the Autobahn, a network of public roads linking the major cities of the Reich. He announced the opening of the first Autobahn line between Berlin and Vienna, with more lines planned. The motorways were expected to increase efficiency and revitalize the economy. Adenauer also authorized more beer halls to open to boost national unity.

Back in the Eimericas, the Cherokee Republic put up significant resistance to the Commune of Michigan's invasion, but it simply did not have the industrial base or the manpower to match Michigan's military, which steadily advanced southwards and eastwards. Conoy fell over the summer, forcing the Cherokee leadership to relocate to the CSA border and the mountain ranges in the south. There the remnants of the Cherokee armies made their last stand. By October, the situation was hopeless, and the Cherokee government realized it could not win the war. As the alternative was to be shot or sent off to gulags, all of the politicians, nobles, priests, and capitalists fled over the border to the CSA, while the army sacrificed itself to give them time to cross. On October 15th, 1932, the last Cherokee stronghold fell to Michigan's armies, and the Michigan Politburo announced the complete annexation of all Cherokee territories into the Commune. The largest of the non-Nahua states that had declared their independence from the former Fox empire was gone, leaving only Pueblo, which had wisely joined the Chinese tributary network, the Union of Seven Republics, which was protected by Vinland, and Creek, which was isolated from the Commune by the CSA. A new regional power had emerged from the chaos of North Eimerica and upset the balance of power on the continent again. Who would the equalists target next? Panic engulfed many stock markets, bringing down the ones in Tsarist Russia.
