Idea Threads

So, I think I proposed re-creating and maintaining the achievement suggestions thread some time ago, and have habitually repressed the urge to post new threads. I was genuinely worried somewhat that I could conquer an entire page with all the ideas that were bubbling forth from my mind.

Which is why, after trudging through 45 pages of this forum looking to let off some steam, I have chosen instead to re-direct my energies to a more useful cause: collecting and organizing all the threads I find interesting into one thread. If you believe your thread should be archived by such a method, feel free to PM me.

And yes, this thread will also serve as a repository of all my random ideas.

Let us start off with the other idea threads people made:

Reset lifestyle for stress
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ge-for-stress-will-be-amazing-for-rp.1353213/

I will pitch my two cents here though. IMHO, we the players should not abuse the stress system too much before the game is even released in our suggestions. In a case that showed up in the above thread, you could instead be faced with a dilemma event that lets you change lifestyles immediately, or there could be special triggers that allow you to switch midway in the five-year cooldown. For example, if you're broke, you can switch to stewardship with some or even little stress - after all, being broke should be stressful, more than actively digging yourself out of the hole at least.

Immersion Breaking Issues about CK2, and Hopefully Will Not Appear In CK3
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/characters-are-not-in-the-ck3-world.1323318/

Empowerment of Temporal Heads of Faith
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...er-of-reformed-pagan-religious-heads.1314979/

IMO from a pure gameplay perspective - setting aside what did/didn't happen a millenia ago - I'd personally like it if this was a rarer event/ harder for you to make happen but definitely still possible (maybe the calculation chance should also take relative status[count v king] into account, or the size of the court etc).
But if my character (or anyone else for that matter) does get cucked, it should have much larger ramifications, both on the target individual and their dynasty/realm, than in CK2.

  • Imagine if you're the head of your tribal religion, maybe one you've built around martial codes and manliness or whatever and you get cucked. How does that make you look in that kind of society? The other bloke would obviously be skinned alive - likely the woman too - but your name would be tainted, in such a scenario. You couldnt even keep "your woman" secure and faithful to you, how can you possibly run a country? So your bannermen might question your fitness to lead them, leading to loss of status, plots and even challengers (in an extreme example). The game should reflect that.
  • A religion with the right combination of tenants/doctrines - like ones that promote incest and fertility - might even mean its fine if your cousin/sibling etc from your own house / a cadet branch cucks you [but not anyone from outside the dynasty], as it's still "in the family".
  • Conversely, someone following a highly carnal / hedonistic religion (based on the custom tenants / doctrines they showed off) would probably laugh and shrug off a cucking. Or even cheer that more sex was had. (if such a hypothetical religion/society was that open, it probably wouldn't put much stock in long-term marriage, so this would be less of a societal taboo).
So make it a rare event, make it powerful [depending on the region's reigning religion], make it a pivotal part of your character's life/story with other events building off cucking/illegitimate children (discovering adultery could even induce stress or trigger a mid-life crisis, letting you change your focuses again, or trigger an event years later [via a hidden flag/timer] where another lord comes and invades to reclaim "your" son, if you didn't know, or something like that).

Making it a frequent event, irrespective of what historical records indicate, debases it's importance as a game mechanic and completely removes my desire to care about it. It turns what could be a cool narrative feature (you could even engineer it as a scandal to bring down a rival dynasty's standing with their vassals) into an annoying popup...

I think it is possible to implement a cash flow to symbolize the double homage relationship though. You pay your de jure liege and de facto liege as holder of the title - which should be motivation enough to break free from one, or maybe both of them.

A small suggestion : some traits could become "marks"
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...stion-some-traits-could-become-marks.1380999/

Much like dynamic virtues and sins expanded, eliminating the need for "Kinslayer" and "Tribal Kinslayer" to be two traits. More importantly, though, is to expand the character screen. Traits and modifiers pile up easily in CK2, after all, so having a separate row for things such as lifestyle traits, being a pilgrim and openly homosexual is nice.

I suggest a "raiding efficiency" mechanic to patch this. So tribal realms, being less organized etc, are more efficient at raiding than civilized realms, and as for civilized realms, peasant rabble raid more efficiently than professional troops in general.

Finally, the Manzikert suggestion.

Hello guys , I'm a new member here , and I'm looking forward to the release of ck3 , but I want to know your opinion on a feature in CK3 and if it would be cool for the developers to implement it...
and the idea is supply lines , and scorched earth policy , where you can create supply lines from your lands and protect them and also to attack your enemies supply lines , because I feel that the logistics in CK2 were very simple and you couldn't do anything about them besides sitting in a rich province and travel along the cost line...
and also being able to emplement scorched earth tacktic , to force some harsh attrition on enemies that enter your lands while avoiding battle so they can weare themselves out and then you could strike and end them once and for all !! and here are few examples from history...

- During the Hundred Years' War, both the English and the French conducted chevauchée raids over the enemy territory to damage its infrastructure.

- Robert the Bruce counselled using these operational methods to hold off the English King Edward's forces when the English invaded Scotland.

- And in 1336, the defenders of Pilėnai in Lithuania set their castle on fire and committed mass suicide in order to make the attacking Teutonic Order's victory a costly one.

So the idea is to make smaller factions stand a chance against larger armies and kingdoms. and to make war against a small enmy a little bit of a challenge.
I don't know if you guys will respond to this but I'd love it if you could tell me what you think...cheers.

Can we have "wandering preacher converts ruler" events, rather than the very strange "ruler devotes self to creating heresy" events? I really can't recall a ruler who toiled endlessly ... to break from his own church, theologically.

Will there be any religious dynamic events? The thing about CK 2 is that it felt the same no matter how many years the game went on. CK 3 has addressed many of the more dynamic upcoming aspects about the game, but what about dynamic events? I'm going to illustrate what I mean. But in short, they are pretty similar to the Crusades, which is a perfect example of a dynamic event where the game adapts to recent changes.

The examples below will be based on Catholicism and should be tweaked to fit the other religions as well. These ideas are thought up in the concept of CK 2, so I do not know whether or not all of them can be implemented in CK 3. But I will list the examples anyway, as I think dynamic events like this may add a lot of flavor to the game.

1. Religious Orthodoxy as a response to a longer period of high moral authority
The catholic faith has reached its maximum moral authority and there is no doubt in the legitimacy of its dogmas and religious institutions be it from the peasants or from the nobility. During this period, the religious zeal is at its peak. Virtues are considered even more valuable than before, granting an increased opinion among the clergy and a bonus to overall stats, and it's more important for a ruler to be pietous than to be prestigious. Sinful rulers are pennalized and the Holy Orders gain a +30% morale damage and defense buff. The Pope is likely to grant others claims for titles if he considers the ruling dynasty or men unfit for their position.

2. Prestige and hedonism as a response to a low moral authority and and abnormal amount of epidemics and warfare
In the last decade, the world has seen an abnormal amount of epidemics and warfare, resulting in the peoples' questioning of the Lord almighty. Noble rulers have taken the opportunity to exalt worldly features. The worth of Prestige has been doubled and characteristics associated with vices have changed for the better, all while the worth of Piety on the other hand has been halved and rulers favoring virtuous traits are now seen as weak and meek. Noble adventures are more likely to appear in conquest for their claims.

3. Witch Hunt as a response to apostasy and witchcraft
It has come to the clergy's attention that more and more people have turned away from the gospel to embrace the sweet promises of the dark lord. All around the Christian world, the clergy are encouraging the hunting of witches and apostates. Rulers are expected to hunt witches, and they are expected to burn anyone accused of witchcraft, no matter be it a close relative or a lowborn stranger. Rulers who let an accused witch go free, may get excommunicated and accused of apostasy him- or herself. On the other hand: those who make a name for themselves as an outstanding beacon of faith, may leave a bloodline behind.

4. Religious revolt as a response to religious oppression
Infidel rulers have settled down on Christian land, seeking to proselytize their Devilish Religion. In this dark times, the Catholic Pope of Rome is especially looking at the Visigoths suffering under Umayyad rule in Iberia. In a major speech, The Pope urges the people of the land to take up arms [Catholic uprising revolts], knowing that the Pope - and God - stands with them! Catholic Peasant revolts in infidel lands have now increased to a global +10% for one year. Religious revolt risk has been increased among Catholic peasantry in all counties ruled by secular rulers not of the catholic faith. OBS: I know that CK 3 has a different revolt system, so changes can me made to increase instability in counties.

5. Bonus moral authority events for heretics as a result of heretical expansion
For some time now, heretics have gained political influence, winning terrain. The Catholic Pope seems unable to hold the Christian realm together, making some question if he truly has the blessing of the Lord almighty. Catholic moral authority will now be lowered by -10 for the next 10 years while all Catholic heresies will get a +10 buff each.

6. Free investiture events as a result of failed crusades and low moral authority
The Noble leaders have for a long time been dissatisfied with the ruling Pope of Rome. Failed Catholic Crusades and his inability to combat heretics have resulted in the cynical, cruel, arbitrary, ambitious or envious leaders, or those excommunicated and or with a negative opinion of the pope, to implement Free Investiture [automatic change]. The Pope is not pleased. OBS: CK 3 will have a different trait-system than in CK 2, so the listed traits can be replaced with what is suitable for CK 3.

7. Continuation of the Free Investiture event above (#6)
To combat the nobles' grasp on the spiritual power, the Pope of Rome has started a decree where he threatens to excommunicate all leaders with Free Investiture unless they change their laws in accordance with the will of the Church. Each ruler with Free Investiture have now been given an option to decide [automatic change].

8. A religious (last) stand as a result of low moral authority and low religious population
To counter the decreased Moral Authority of the Catholic Church, the Pope of Rome has started a campaign where he urges all true believers to take up the spiritual fight against evil. Catholics will now be harder to convert, some might gain the Zealous trait and those secretly Catholic will openly practice their beliefs!

9. Religious anti-papal war as a result of the current Pope being a wicked priest
For some time now, the Pope of Rome has reigned over the Spiritual world in sin. An immoral man of the cloth, the pious rulers of the Catholic world no longer recognize his claim. An [independent] Antipope has been setup [random among the Cardinals?] and all rulers have been given an option to determine whom to recognize as the true successor of Saint Peter. Furthermore, they have started a war to depose of the old Pope! Trembling in fear, the Pope of Rome asks all true pious Catholic rulers to take up arms in defense of the lord almighty! All true pious Catholics willing to lend him a hand will be greatly rewarded should he win! (Piety, Paragon of virtue? Coronation / Sainthood?).

These are some examples, hope you found them to your liking! Note that the idea of the events above is what I'm trying to point out, and not the specific examples. Examples may be added or removed but the point of dynamic events is what's of importance and which may be a very good asset to the game.

In CK3 Incest in Zoroastrianism must be Removed and Iranian Characters must not have Arabic Names

The man has a point, I especially agree with the "Iranian Characters must not have Arabic Names" part.

Sidetracking a bit, I would like to post this tidbit:
万盐之盐咸鱼大皇帝陛下 2020/04/26 11:36:46
就是我昨天说的,拜拜和意大利,法兰西其实是一个类型,通过发展市民经济,用占据资源更少的市民以及无地贵族逐步代替原来的土地贵族
万盐之盐咸鱼大皇帝陛下 2020/04/26 11:37:00
这样减少执政成本,然后扩大政府,加强控制

Translation:
As I said yesterday, the Byz belong to the same group as Italians and French, by developing urban economy, replacing landed nobles with urban elite and landless nobles (to form government), they reduced ruling costs, increased size of the government, and asserted more control.

Now if we can actually simulate this in game ...
Due to Manzikert, urban economy of Byz decayed, resulting in more landed dignitaries.
Due to relative stability, Italian and French urban economy developed, resulting in a more centralized government.

So who is disagreeing so many of my posts? I explicitly stated that these are the threads I find interesting. How are you supposed to "disagree" with that? Can you actually reply instead of annoying the hell out of my day?

As I continue to sort over 70 threads, I kindly ask the makers of the forum (yes, this forum) to implement something like the Microsoft Word Brush, so that I can make all those "orange, block, size 4" sub-titles all the faster.
Like you I have no idea why would anyone disagree with you making helpful compilation of all "suggestion threads". And I have even less understanding.
You should probably know (at least be able see) who that guy is... and I would also be very interested, who is so dull to do this.

Just a thought, maybe... perhaps if you would take your forum name away from the thread title, it would be nice. Especially since most of the suggestion threads linked in this thread are not "your ideas" ;)
Frankly when I personaly see somebody naming his suggestion list with his name (instead of topic), I lose interest.

I will get to my own ideas soon enough, if that really bugs you. I just decided to finish compiling all other threads first because my computer crashed (I opened somewhere around a hundred webpages, so) before I get going. Speaking of which, now that you replied to this thread, I wouldn't need to put your analysis and suggestion threads under the Historical Analysis threadmark anymore ...

Stanza 1: Marriage
I cannot believe that one of the single most important aspects of medieval life got, well ... one event to represent the entire process in CK2. Really, now? In 2020? Even coronations take longer than marriages!

With all the fuss this way and that, I am mostly concerned with how marriages will work in CK3. It's not like interregnums, which would mess with certain core game mechanics aka leaving titles without a holder (let's come back to this later); having an extended event chain involving multiple characters has been proven to be feasible and often employed, for example adultery events (seduction OP pls nerf temptation), which leads to my first point - the marriage event chain!

(For purposes of demonstration, this post will use CK2 to draw an outline; Rhasphody 1 will be posted after we see what the devs think of marriage, in the released game)

Step 1: Courting

You have a "court" for a reason after all - FondMemberofSociety

So, let us assume you are some relatively well-off male noble in, say, France. You are unwed, fairly young, and looking for a match. Now, what do you do?

1. You pick the hunting focus and marry a lady of the wilds
2. You pick the seduction focus and marry the scullery maid
3. You fire the Jean'dArchetype event via console command and marry the savior of the realm

If you choose either of the above options, you are not playing the marriage game right.

You should instead choose from the limited pool of highborn ladies, because that befits your station. However, that is not to say peer pressure and realpolitik should be the only forces driving your marriage choices - there is certainly nothing stopping you from courting your fiancée before you actually have to worry about the dowry.

Mechanically speaking, step one involves you trying to more or less figure out if you and your fiancée are compatible with each other. With the appropriate character flags in place, the fiancée you have chosen for yourself would not be wed to another man all of a sudden. The courting process itself would cover a few events, with results depending on your diplomacy and intrigue ability, among other factors. Most of the time you find a wife that simply chooses not to actively attempt to murder you, but in rare cases you two could become friends or lovers before marriage.

It should be noted that people do seek happiness, and in medieval terms that meant a perfectly arranged marriage.

Anyhow, with the courting phase over, you seal the deal with her family by paying the dowry. Which brings us to -

Step 2: Engagement and Marriage Ceremony

What better occasion to slaughter your enemies than your wedding? - FondMemberofSociety

Ok, so here's the thing. If you could court someone in the Middle Ages, they are technically legal adults. As they are technically legal adults, this means they have a past, and their past could come back to haunt them - and you too. After paying the dowry and announcing your engagement, this past will return in the form of hormonal males. One of them could be the miller's boy, accidentally becoming an acquaintance of the young lady, even trading childish promises of forever in the name of God; another, an arrogant and spoiled scion of a great house, hell-bent on borrowing his father's clout to break apart the engagement.

Indeed, if said brat is a Prince of France who happens to have a powerful King as his father, be prepared that the engagement is ultimately struck null and void.

Mechanically speaking, assassinations and other hostile actions are more likely to erupt upon announcement of engagement as everyone from the miller's boy to the Prince of France is opposing this matter.

Once the public reactions are over, it is time to organize a wedding. Like coronations, weddings can follow an event chain that ultimately generates a mark that symbolizes the public's opinion of your wedding ceremony. Indeed, it is a great opportunity to impress and show off ... and also gather a huge bunch of nobles at a location of your choice.

If you do not mind being forever infamous as the one who murders your wedding guests, feel free to organize a red wedding. It will be spectacular.

Step 3: Post-Marriage Events

A marriage is your plot of land: nurture and culture it, and you will reap roses; neglect it, and weeds will choke your sight. - FondMemberofSociety

I have to say, CK2 provides quite the assortment of post-marriage events, though unsurprisingly a titanic amount of said events are tied to somebody else picking the seduction focus. It has always seemed strange to me that I cannot romance my wife. I can set up elaborate schemes to seduce the wives of others, but I cannot try to do the same to my own. It's confusing, really. Never mind the fact that such opinions on married love are ahistorical, there is enough of ahistorical stuff going on in CK3 that I believe seducing your wife is borderline too historical.

Anyhow, events I can pull off the top of my head on married life:
  • Family focus - opinion boost, falling in love
  • Same education - that one event
  • Hermetics - Starry-Eyed (Out of Touch), falling in love via generic society event ( A useful substitute to the family focus, if I may dare say so myself ), invite to stargazing etc.
  • Come to think of it, am I the only one who uses the Hermetics Society mostly to seduce my wife?
My hope is that CK3 can set up a "skeleton" of marriage events as outlined above, involving pre-marriage, engagement, the ceremony, and post-marriage events, to make marriage less random, ahistorical and more fun.
