How does one go about getting this update for an owner of the original game SR 2020?

 

It is said in the news:

REALLY looking forward to play with the update. Sad thing there's not a change log yet.

 

But it doesn't say HOW. I think that's what the earlier poster is referring to. So far it's not showing up on GG which is where I bought my copy from and I'm not seeing a DL link on this forum or the BG one. Have only begun to look mind you, but figured there'd be a simple link for those of us with gold and wanting to update it.

 

I see... Well, I'm looking for the announcement on their forum too, but still nothing. :/

 

When can we expect this update?

 

They replied on the BG forums that you can DL the update through your windows start menu game folder. There should be an option to check for updates which will begin the download.

- Fixed incorrect 'victory' text box when region is defeated
- Fixed possible hang when diplo offer maximize picked but green not poss
- Fixed bug when Fog-of-War turned on after scenario started with it off
- Build-to-Strength on merged units fixed
- Base production queue value reset on owner change (possible bug fix)
- When a center upgrade destroyed, all nodes are now also destroyed
- When base in enemy ZOC it goes "lockdown", no auto unit landing/reserve
- Upon Surrender units remain in Reserve (Garrisons too); constr queue kept
- Units should land properly at a just-surrendered airfield
- 'OnePerHex' now enforced for airport/seapier/barracks
- Optimized memory use of save-file compressor
- Changed order-id sequence code to resolve possible multiplayer/mt sync prob
- Fixed bug where scrapping river city node also scraps roads in hex
- Fixed (hopefully) final issues with pathing lines not showing for off-map dest

- Units that are marked as Favorites will show even if obsolete or replaced
- Fixes to LOADUP order to not leave some potential units unloaded
- Corrected a targetting/visibility bug where long range fire opps were missed
- Corrected a case where unit opportunity fire set not used in missile firing
- Indirect damage of multiple units in hex no longer drops below 50% in stacks
- Full Equipment name is now shown for units
- Removed 'Missile Storage Limit Exceeded' maintenance cost penalty
- Fixed issue with 'bordering' not always properly set
- Health care rating no longer defaults to 80% on cache creations
- AI Regions will now properly use initial missile stocks
- Changed save buffer size calculation to prevent possible overflow
- Fixed small/rare issue with AI Neutral-Exit of standoff units
- Fixed rare issue with air units looking for landed refueling tankers
- Fixed upgrade and base infrastrure cost over-calculation on multi-nodes
- Deactivated facilities were costing too much maint cost
- Mouse Freeze on Large-Font Windows fixed

Will this one have an actual campaign with a storyline? 'Cause I bought the expansion pack and didn't spot any actual difference (and especially did not see a campaign with a storyline).

When clicking the Update Game link in the Windows start menu, the file is missing an extension. I assume renaming this file to include .exe will the problem?

 

If that does not work i recommend that you click on the link provided by battlefella to manually download the update. It worked great for me.

I tried playing this game before and gave up, my stamina being low at the time presumably?

Would people now recommend jumping right into the expansion, or should I play the original game first?

 

Like I said, I saw no real difference between the two, and certainly not anything that warranted buying the expansion. Still don't know where this campaign is (the only reason I bought the expansion, so as to give it a story). :| (and if anyone says I'm being disruptive, I am complaining, as a dissatisfied customer who feels like the victim of false advertising. It would be nice to have that proven wrong to me.)

Edit: Oh right, I should answer you q, lol. From my personal experience, no I would not recommend it personally. Of course maybe this battlefella will explain the problem and I change my view if the answer is satisfactory.

 

I'm unsure what "problem" you're looking to have explained. There is a storyline presented in the documentation to give players a "setting" for the start of the game, but beyond that the game engine is designed to be "anything can happen". Was that you're only concern with the game? And to accuse us of false advertising is quite the stretch. Do you go onto a car lot, buy it without test driving, then complain you don't like how it drives? There is a demo available for the core game and we even made an updated demo for the Gold edition because so much had changed. And if you're looking for "story driven", that's what the scenarios are. I've not come across anything else you have issue with. If I've missed one of your posts, please direct me to it.

@novapaddy; try the demo, take it for a "test drive" then make your decision.

This bit right here was what I was on about. You guys wrote it after all (except possibly the Impulse one, whose wording is slightly different). Usually when I have bought a game, what I have gotten matched up with the stuff promised in the features (especially with P'dox published games), and I've read reviews ofc, and the only stuff that didn't was often so trivial that I didn't care. I didn't say you did falsely advertise, I said I felt like it, there's a difference between me stating a personal feeling and saying something as fact (at least in the legal world). The statement in the first four pages kind of led me to believe you could play a campaign with a storyline of scripted events (as I am thinking that's the only way you could do such a storyline), I only just found the Impulse one (haven't used Impulse in a long time), which could maybe give you a slightly different idea.

A demo of an expansion pack? I had bought SR2020 a while back already and I didn't know you could get a demo of the expansion. I didn't look for a demo of the Gold version because usually I expect a demo to just be the first game itself, not a combo. I also had no real interest in buying the Gold version so I wouldn't have seen a link for any demo. I'm a paying customer (as is everyone else here presumably) so I've a right to complain of course. If this were a mod then it'd be you get what you pay for.

I bought the expansion the day before the price dropped to 5 USD ironically enough btw, and yep I'm willing to spend 15 or 20 USD to just get a nice real campaign (it isn't too much of an expense) and on a game published by P'dox, but I expected a campaign with a storyline that led to WWIII. Maybe I will look into this patch though and see if it delivers some nice stories. Thank you for releasing it.
