Sir, this is not simply a matter of Jamiacan independence. This is much bigger. At stake is Germany's pride and standing in the world; in a word, honor. Honor is more important than anything; honor controls whether we live or we die. To my father, it mattered more than death. And your suggestion of an empire of liberty is contradictory in the extreme. Why protest against imperialism and then promote a watered-down version of it? Germany must rule all through Nürnberg. Your 'free nations' will simply be our puppets; is it not much easier to control them directly, or let our allies rule in our stead?
~Albrecht Von Spinoza

My friend, I am no critic of imperialism. In fact, I am its greatest friend. But we should fight for freedom, not for despotism. Opposing Jamaican independence only profits the greedy Castilian bankers, not the freedom-loving people of Germany.

DE SPINOZA HEIR PULLS AHEAD IN KIEL ELECTION

KIEL, Germany-Yesterday a survey conducted among the voting population of the Kiel province found that Albrecht von Spinoza, son and heir of murdered Kiel Statthalter J.H. de Spinoza, has pulled ahead slightly in the election race. The race is between von Spinoza for the New Society, Hans Kellerman for the HUN, Josef Pelten for the SDAP, Ferdnand Von Herzen for the Imperialists, and Christiaan Svengolts for the Danish People's Party, or DFP. Von Spinoza has run almost solely on his fathers record, as he was popular among the voters and remains so after his death, and it has worked well so far. His two main opponents, Kellerman and Pelten, were forced to attend the funeral in Kiel. Both have been running on the economy, with Kellerman arguing that the HUN has done a "splendid job fixing up the economy", while Pelten has argued that the economy will do even better under the SDAP. Von Herzen has stayed mainly silent for the race, only breaking it for two speeches, one centering on Germany's military and the other on Kiel workers in the dockyards. Svengolts campaign seems to be composed of endless rants about German oppressors. This paper endorsed von Spinoza a week ago, which has possibly led to his recent surge. The poll results were:
1. Albrecht Von Spinoza, New Society, 39%
2. Hans Kellerman, HUN, 32%
3. Josef Pelten, SDAP, 20%
4. Ferdnand Von Herzen, Imperialists, 8%
5. Christiaan Svengolts, DFP, 1%

((Danish People's Party :p. Oh this is funny. Because it is an actual party in Denmark :D))

Herr Meningen's views towards the Jamaican Liberation Army have some troubling implications towards Germany's own internal government. If Jamaican independence is to be supported, then what of the Lombard and Ubrian Independence movements? What of the Belgian separatists? What about the Swiss? The Republic has often seen violent Jacobin and Anarchist groups take up arms against the Gendarmerie - and, on occasion, the army - in their fight to weaken and divide the Republic into smaller independent states. "The Liberator" supports such a movement on Castillian soil; would he support such movements on our own?

(( OOC, I hope so. A lot of the electorate seems to be a member of some independence movement or other - it's about time they got some political representation! ))

Tver was a special case - I'm sure we've all read the reports of the Polish regime's actions in Rzhev and Vyshny Volochyok ((replace where applicable, if these places aren't in Tver or don't exist in this timeline)). But good government requires strong central control, and to divide any nation is to weaken its authority and impoverish its population.

The Liberator, hmpf. Of what? All the people in the world? That's quite ambitious. Maybe we should just stop concerning about other countries at all. Maybe that is a better idea, than being the policeman of the world.

A great idea Herr von Schwaben. I think Germany should stop interfering in affairs of other countries as well.Let them fight, While we live in peace and prosper.

Bio: Franz grew up as the son of a tenant farmer in Prussia. He dreamed of bigger and better things and signed up in the Republican Army during the Byzantine war of 1853. Franz quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Brigadier General. He gave inspiring republican sermons to his men, which were attended in the thousands. However, he quickly became disenchanted with the Castillian cause, as he saw that the government of Castille was filled with corrupt aristocrats who ruthlessly suppressed the patriots of Galicia. From then on, Franz devoted his life to liberating various peoples around the globe and bringing them republican governments in the German style. He helped initiate Jacobin revolts (to the government's chagrin) in Byzantium and Transylvania, though he does not consider himself to be a an ideological Jacobin.

Upon war with Poland Franz returned to Germany and was accepted back in the army as a brigadier general given the army's desperate need for manpower and leadership. Franz led many successful campaigns against the Polish and remained in Tver for a year to help them establish a proper republican government. He returned to Germany and won a seat in the Assembly representing the HUN ((is that ok?)).

Franz firmly believes in the rights of man, thinks religion is a scam, loves free trade, and is attempting to mold Germany into an "Empire of Liberty".

[...]the greatness of Von Hansen in our history cannot be exaggerated.

Yesterday in my very own Kiel the election results were declared. It was an underwhelming victory for the son of de Spinoza, Albrecht Von Spinoza. Kiel Zeitung threw their support behind him two weeks ago, which I believe most likely turned the race to Von Spinoza's favor. Hans Kellerman, the HUN candidate, suffered a defeat the other day in a debate with Josef Pelten and Von Spinoza. When asked about the Kiel dockyards, which have recently suffered some minor joblessness, he froze up and could not answer the question. It was a laughable display, but Von Spinoza did no better. Pelten arose the victor, as he both condemned the policy of the HUN and outlined a, quite improbable but nice sounding, plan to regain jobs in Kiel. Von Spinoza proved unable to provide a satisfying answer, stammering and looking as if he was trying to hide behind the podium.

So the end results were 35% for Von Spinoza, who was running under the banner of the New Society, 29% for Pelten, 27% for Kellerman, 8% for the Imperialist Ferdnand Von Herzen, and 1% for Christiian Svengolts of the DFP. This last-minute surge on the part of the SDAP is due mainly to their recent success in the rest of Germany. Many SDAP people visited Kiel, praising Pelten and urging people to vote. This huge vote for the socialists is a sign to come of things to come in Germany as a whole. No matter how much we try to stop it, the SDAP is growing in size and strength. The original parties of Germany seem all but nonexistent today, with the startling rise of the HUN and the SDAP. Von Spinoza is an oddity in this day and age, just like his father.

We stand in a time where the old parties from the dawn of our republic are shaken and stiff. New blood is allready spilling from the olMaximillian von Vandenburgd parties, starting with the SDAP. The old conservative and liberal parties are basically becoming the same. And after every election, they stand togther in the same coalition as last time. Only thing different is the channelor and his cabinet. In the UAI, the leader is named Dominik Fellman. He makes sure that no one has another opinion than that of his. Then we have the Imperalist which wants the old fuedal empire back. The new society is our silent party, that wants the same slow progress, as we have had for years. And then we have the party named the HUN. Hohenzollern Unger nationlist party, which inhabits the current channelor named Hugo Unger. This man gets rid of everyone he don't like. That was my fate. And the only man of importance who stood a little up to me, was our current minister of the Interior, Maximillian von Vandenburg.

The tyranny of the old parties must be at an end. Therefore, I, together with Hals Gutfreund and Franz Meningen decided to form the NLPD, which stands for National Liberale Partei Deutschlands, and we are a party seeking the spirit of Germany whilst accepting new cultures and making the economy more stable.

The opinion of the Crisis Team is that we should reinforce the Somerset territory and dig in -- if the British wish to strike hard toward us, we shall see to it that London flies the Reichsflagge.

Signed,
Außenminister Otto von Bismarck
