Yuletide is fast upon us - So in order to benefit peace across the land and some time to get hotfixes in before vacations, it's time for a launcher update.

New stuff
  • The Manage Mods page has been largely reworked. New features include a search bar, load order numbering and a "compact" view of mods that reduce the vertical space taken by each list item
  • Mod description will now default to previous mod description when uploading a mod

Changes
  • Debug logs are now consolidated into a single "logs" folder, hopefully meaning it'll be easier to send us evidence of wrongdoing
  • Better feedback on native platform failures for Microsoft Game Pass users

Fixes
  • Cloud synch of uninstalled mods now means mods from PDX Mods that were uninstalled in offline mode will not longer be reinstalled upon reconnect
  • Microsoft Game Pass users will no longer be prevented from playing when ownership checks fail due to offline scenarios
  • Changes in Manage Mods screen was not always persisted properly. This should now be remedied
  • Mod files prefaced with a UTF-8 BOM - typically HoI4 mods - are now parsed correctly

Unless there are any hotfixes that need to be pushed out, expect the next launcher update in the second half of January as we'll be hibernating outside of the office a bit.

Will all games that use the launcher automatically update to the new version?

Not all - All that are on a non-"SE" version. Also Imperator will remain on their version which is an "SE" version in all but name. Worthy of note is that players on Microsoft Game Pass are also on SE versions due to platform limitations.

(Nomenclature: "SE" is short for "Static Edition" and means that it does not self-update and is instead updated by the respective game team)

Is there a handy list of which games use SE versions and which don't?

If this patch works, then it with deal with several complaints from the player community. Thank you! Better late than never.

Any chance of getting delete functionality added since the mods don't appear to be placed in the mod folder any more?

Still no sorting? How is it even possible to be out of touch to this degree.

Compact list and search are nice additions, thanks.

Any plans to allow window resizing? Would be helpful with long mod lists and it would be improvmenet over the original launchers.

Thanks for the updates guys! Still no fix to the launcher gamedatapath bug first reported April 2019 that has affected many Imperator users by preventing mods from activating? That's disappointing.

if you could also make it so when a player wants to move a mod in the mods list they can scroll with the mod in hand to the point they want to have the mod instead of having to move the mod in increments as you did with the HOIIV Production lines that would be great as well.

Please just give us the old launchers back, at least until the holidays are over, and you can fix this mess. This update is a welcome one, but it still results in a launcher that is far inferior to the original ones.

* Still no intuitive mod load order or any ordering in some cases. Knowing the numbers of the load order isn't that helpful without this. Drag-and-drop mods around is a chore, and the Stellaris launcher doesn't seem to save the load order anyway (had to do it 3 times now).

* Still a chore to update/create mods. Many issues persist.

* Game CTDs on load screens persist.

* Launchers crash when trying to enable mods.

That'll get fixed - It was an inadvertent side-effect of the scroll bar introduction that QA didn't catch.

Let me make this abundantly clear, now and for all: Neither me, nor anyone in the launcher team make these calls. That authority lies with the game director and the game director alone. Now you know. Stop nagging.

the Stellaris launcher doesn't seem to save the load order anyway (had to do it 3 times now).

This is a previously unreported bug - Unless you are in fact still running a very old version of the launcher. Please submit a bug report stating your OS and version thereof, launcher version and distribution platform, together with a reproduction case and I'll give high prio: Load order is important.

Still a chore to update/create mods. Many issues persist.

Some fixes are incoming next patch, but they are currently in acceptance and need to looked at by the game teams to ensure we don't break more things than we fix. Please be aware that everything you get means another thing you don't get. Developer hours is a finite resource.

Game CTDs on load screens persist.

This is nothing the launcher team can ever fix - As soon as you see the game loading screens, it's out of our hands.

Launchers crash when trying to enable mods.

I've heard about dozens of mods enabling bugs, but never this one. Like above: Please submit a bug report stating your OS and version thereof, launcher version and distribution platform, together with a reproduction case. Honestly though, unless the repro is solid we won't go on a ghost-chase: There are many more bugs that need fixing.
