Hello everyone,

This mod intends to add immersion and interactivity between a liege and the powerful vassals in his realm. With this mod, the top 2 most powerful vassals in Kingdoms and Empires will form their own personal factions such as "Faction of Duke John" etc. They will then set focuses and goals for their faction. These goals, usually, have nothing to do with the liege but rather are intended to somehow enhance the influence and status of the powerful vassal within the realm. After all, these factions are just abstract representations of that vassal's influence in the realm.

FEATURES
  • The top 2 most powerful vassals in Kingdoms and Empires will create their own personalized factions, and set focuses and goals. Both the AI and the player can create these factions.
  • These factions are a representation of that ruler's influence within the realm.
  • The faction leader will then set a Focus for the faction. A focus can only be changed after 10 years. Then every year the faction leader will hold a meeting with all the faction members to discuss progress.
  • Focuses available:
    • Glory
    • Prosperity
    • Faith
  • After setting a Focus, the leader will choose a short-term goal for the faction. Currently available goals:
    • Glory Focus Goals:
      • Attack a Neighboring Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Faction Assisted War Casus Belli that can be used to attack a neighboring realm and usurp a de jure duchy area.
      • Oust Foreigners from Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Casus Belli that can be used to attack your liege's vassals who belong to a different culture group than you and your liege. Usurps all demesne titles of the target.
      • Improve Public Image: If successful, gives a modifier that increases general opinion for several years.
    • Prosperity Focus Goals:
      • Establish a Trade Route: If successful, establishes a "faction trade route" in all the demesne provinces of the faction leader and faction members increasing the tax income.
      • Establish a New Settlement: The leader can ask faction members to contribute Wealth at the faction meeting. Will be successful if a new holding is constructed in the faction leader's demesne.
      • Increaese Prosperity: If successful, increases the prosperity of all demesne provinces of the faction leader and faction members.
    • Faith Focus Goals:
      • Attack an Infidel Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Faction Assisted Holy War casus belli that can be used to attack a neighboring infidel realm and usurp a de jure duchy area.
      • Oust Infidels from Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful casus belli that can be used to attack your liege's vassal who belongs to a different religion group than you and your liege. Usurps all demesne titles of the target.
      • Convert a Province Religion: If successful, converts one of your demesne province's religion to your religion.
  • A goal is considered failed if it is not accomplished within 10 years.
  • Accomplishing the goal will increase the faction members' opinion of their leader. Whereas, failing or abandoning goals will decrease their opinion.
  • A powerful vassal who leads such a faction can also make some special demands from the liege every few years:
    • Demand Council Position: The powerful vassal can demand that he be granted his rightful position on the liege's council.
    • Demand release of family from prison: The powerful vassal can demand that the liege releases all of his family members that the liege currently has imprisoned.
    • If the liege refuses any demand, the faction leader's as well as all members' opinion of the liege will reduce. If the liege complies, the opinion will increase.
  • The AI will choose a focus and goal depending on its personality, but there is still some random factor as well.
Note: The casus belli above CANNOT be used by a character to attack his religious head.

COMPATIBILITY
  • Compatible with ALL mods! This includes overhaul mods such as HIP and CK2+.
  • Can be added to save-games. Not sure about removing from save-games though!
  • Disables Achievements.

Have updated with some fixes:
-------------
Ver. 1.0.2
-------------
  • Character modifiers of previous focuses will now be properly removed upon changing focus.
  • Added an option to choose no focus when no focus is eligible to be chosen.
  • Added an option to choose no goal when no goal is eligible to be chosen.
------------
Ver 1.0.1
------------
  • Quickfix: One of the scripted triggers is not working for some reason (lmmpvf_has_goal_war_trigger). Replaced all occurrences of that with explicit lines. Will recheck later.

Have pushed another quick update:
-------------
Ver. 1.0.3
-------------
  • Goals which require skills of faction members have now no chance to succeed as long as there are no faction members.

Update:
----------
Ver 1.1
----------
  • The following Casus Belli now require the mentioned prestige or piety before the war can be declared. The prestige or piety is deducted upon war declaration:
    • Attack Neighboring Realm: 1000 Prestige
    • Oust Foreigners from Realm: 500 Prestige
    • Attack Infidel Realm: 500 Piety
    • Oust Infidels from Realm: 250 Piety
  • Faction leaders with Attack Neighboring Realm or Oust Foreigners from Realm goals can now ask faction members to contribute Prestige at the faction meeting.
  • Faction leaders with Attack Infidel Realm or Oust Infidels from Realm goals can now ask faction members to contribute Piety at the faction meeting. Only members of the leader's exact religion will be asked.
  • The goal to Establish a Settlement can no longer be chosen by tribal rulers.
  • Faith focus can no longer be chosen by unreformed pagans.
  • AI Changes:
    • The AI will not choose the Attack Neighboring Realm goal unless Ambitious.
    • The AI will not choose the Oust Foreigners from Realm goal unless Cruel or Impaler.
    • The AI will not choose the Attack Infidel Realm or Oust Infidels from Realm goals unless Zealous.

Updates:
------------
Ver 1.1.2
------------
  • Fixed issue where piety and presitge costs of the faction casus belli were preventing the war from being declared even when the conditions were fulfilled.
-------------
Ver. 1.1.1
-------------
  • Attack Infidel Realm CB is now considered a holy war.
  • Fixed issues where if a faction leader lost a faction assisted war, he would be stuck with the goal until the 10 years timer ran out.

Update:
-------------
Ver. 1.1.3
-------------
  • Oust Foreigners from Realm and Oust Infidels from Realm casus belli can no longer be used against "mercenaries" or "holy orders of the faction leader's religion group".
  • AI leaders of a Powerful Vassal Faction with the goals to Oust Foreigners from Realm or Oust Infidels From Realm will prefer to target duke tier or higher vassals if they are themselves duke tier or higher.

Loving this - great idea! Thank you for this mod. I'm going to enjoy playing it.

I'm just imagining here but it will be cool if there's something like tension system where two opposing factions go into a war if tension is high enough, and liege can do something about it such as mediate the situation or support one faction.

Update:
-------------
Ver. 1.1.4
-------------
  • Added an option for the liege to refuse the powerful vassal the council position for 5 years. This will prevent the vassal from demanding the position for the next 5 years, albeit at the cost of a higher negative opinion.
  • Fixed some localisation.

Thank you! That is a neat suggestion. Definitely something that is doable. However, I have no time to spare for modding these days (except small little bug-fixing updates etc.) so I will probably not get around to doing this any time in the foreseeable future, unfortunately.
