Border guards bringing down the official border between Germany and Austria. January 1st. 1937.
Austria has been under an economic depression ever since the end of the Great War. During these years a fascist regime took over. Germany brought up to the League of Nations of holding a plebiscite in Austria to see if they want to join in with Germany. With good relations with the major powers, the League of Nations agreed . An overall majority of Austrians voted "Ja". Nazi and DNVP asylum seekers in Austria along with the leaders of the Austrian Deutschsozialen Verein and Schulz-Gruppe (the two were the Austrian versions of the Nazi party) have sought asylum in Mussolini's Italy and sometimes Nationalist Spain.
Nationalism has continued to grow is Austria and Germany.
The Republicans have put up a good fight, but many agree they can't survive for long. Some soldiers and even commanders have started seeking asylum in the USSR, Germany, and France.
Reichstag elections have come along once again. The KPD-SPD coalition have continued to grow.
Many more Austrian and German fascists have continued to leave the nation, with the DNVP loosing yet another election, and many party leaders already gone. This has created quite a rift in the party, many have fallen apart, thus, people have left.
Some more territorial changes in the Civil War. Even with the Republicans on their last legs they have pushed closer for Madrid.
Alas, it was for nothing. The Nationalist forces have broken up the push.
The South African government has instituted policies against Germans in the country. DNVP and SPD members alike have protested these actions.
The government has continued to improve the quality of their generals.
Mr. Gothaer Waggonfabrik has finished his research into the type of tank known as the "Panzer". Many Germans hope the government will build these revolutionary vehicles.
Indeed, the government has started a program to build 3 Panzer divisions.
With such a great economy the government has instituted relaxed tax laws. As expected, many are happy with this.
The Republicans have continued to push against the Nationalists.
The German government has instituted "Operation Desert Gardens" in which the government would secretly fund partisans in Afghanistan. In order for them to rise up, and let Germany coup the nation and replace the nation's fascist government with a more friendly, liberal government. Giving Germany an important ally in the area.
Even more investment into infrastructure...
On May 6, 1936 the commercial airship "Hindenburg" crashed and burned in New Jersey. Many died, the German people mourn the loses of the people on board.
On the early morning hours of May 30 Nationalist airplanes attacked the German ship, the Deutschland. In response the German ship bombarded the local town of Almeria.
More territorial changes in Iberia. Many wonder how the Republicans still exist.
Go Germany!
The German government sees that they must defend themselves from Nationalist forces. The nations of Europe aren't very pleased with this.
The borders are quickly changing, but the Republicans can't last for long.
The Great War general Erich Ludendorff has passed away. Many DNVP members mourn his lose.
The first Panzers can be deployed!
The Republican forces have been completely separated. Many more Republicans have escaped to France, the USSR, and Germany.
Two Super Heavy Battleships are being built, the Bismark and the Tripitz. They will become the flagships of the Germany Navy.
The Republicans have been surrounded in Gerona, along with the Balearic Islands . German operatives have been evacuating Republican leaders to Germany.
Farewell Republican Spain...
Germany has launched "Operation White Beaches" in which the government will secretly fund Republican partisans and regional separatists.
Will Germany succeed in it's operations in Afghanistan and Spain? Find out next time on...Long Live the Republic! A Mixed Mod AAR!
Germany's government is adapting an interventionist policy. Many wonder what this could mean...
Operation White Beaches is in full swing by 1938. Dissent is rising in Central Spain.
Mussolini's Italy has finally recognized Germany's ownership over Austria. Many say he was pressured to deny Germany's ownership due to the flood of Austrian fascist leaders that arrived in Italy. But, with good relations Mussolini has finally recognized their ownership.
Once again, Germany has funded partisans in East Andalucia.
Germany has continued it's research into secret weapons with the development of the rocket engine.
Germany has continued it's research, this time with turbojet engines.
Look at that! Even more funding into Spanish partisans!
More research, this time under scientist Wernher von Braun.
With a new interventionist policy in place, Germany has refused to Switzerland's unconditional neutrality.
The World Cup will be held in France! Go Germany!
...And Germany wasn't in the top 4. Ah well, good job Germany, anyhow.
The government has instituted a labor decree in times of war. Many see this as a sign of what the future will hold...
The USSR and Germany have once again agreed to a trade deal. Many see this as a growth in relations between the two nations.
Albert Einstein has continued his research into nuclear research.
Einstein has been commissioned to develop isotope separation facilities.
To science!
The French have made a puppet state from their Syrian colonies.
The Poles have tried to divide Czechoslovak land but the German government has put a stop to it. This has damaged relations with Poland and the USSR.
More developments into rocket engines.
The government has decided to build a rocket testing facility.
At the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics they have researched nuclear technology and have made blueprints for a few of the nuclear technologies.
A theoretical breakthrough as popped out in the field of rocket science. The government can now research a new type of jet engine...
The German government is now researching the practical turbojet engine!
What will the Germans discover next time? Will we find out why Germany is becoming more interventionist? Will Operation White Beaches succeed? Find out next time on...Long Live the Republic! A Mixed Mod AAR!
German troops have flooded into Italy through their Austrian territories.
The government has put funding and supplies into an offensive chit in preparation of invading all of Italy.
Along with the that, the government has enacted general mobilization.
Men across the nation have been mobilized, giving Germany more manpower to reinforce and build more units.
The reserves have been called up.
Many Europeans have joined the Heer to crush Mussolini's Italy.
A few Americans have joined the Heer as well.
German AA power has improved significantly.
Northern Italy has been occupied fairly easily by the Heer. Even though the Italians can beat the Ethiopian army, they stand no chance against the German army.
The Italian government has effectively collapsed. Ministers have been murdered, Rome has protests every day with the Parliamentary building burning to the ground, street fights and shootings have also occupied Rome and many other cities, generals have surrendered, and Mussolini and the King have gone missing. Giovanni Messe, having become de-facto Duce has surrendered to the Germans. The war ended fairly quickly in Italy, but the newly independent Italian East Africa and Albania still are fighting. But, with the new ownership of Italy the German government has set up investigations to arrest the numerous German and Austrian fascists who have fought against the government. Many have been ratted out, some have been killed by rebels, but many (along with the Italians) have escaped to Franco's Spain.
Puppets have been made out of Italy and Libya.
With the main war now over, the offensive chit has ended.
German troops have landed on the shores of Albania. Many rumors have spread saying how the King or Mussolini is hiding in Albania, and even far fetched ones that Hitler is a government worker.
Albania has been annexed and made into a puppet. When the news came and the first German troops were entering the capital of Tirana they saw that the city was basically under siege. Protesters everywhere, shooting, and fires spread. After 24 long hours of ending the chaos, German officials discovered the bodies of Mussolini and his lover, Clara Petacci in abandoned farm outside of Tirana, with bullets in their chests. After examination by the best of German doctors, the team concluded that beside the gunshots, they were also strangled. With the two having been found ,many wonder about the dictator's childrens' whereabouts. Many say that the German government have sent the 6 children to Sweden, with the Swedish government keeping a close eye on them. But nobody knows for sure. King Umberto's location is still a mystery. With Italy, Albania, and Libya having become German puppets, peace has been made between Germany and the "King of East Africa".
With the war over, Germany can now focus on domestic policy. A major construction effort has started in building up Berlin. The idea is to build up the city, with new major buildings, statues, and roads. This will take lots of time, effort, and money. But, many believe Germany can complete this.
With the war now over, mobilization has ended.
Albert Einstein has continued his research into nuclear technology.
More focus has been put into flying bombs.
With the war over in time, the Olympics will be held this year. And Norway will host it.
Many see this as the future of troop transportation.
Germany ended up being a pretty big winner! Huzzah!
Nationalistic ferver has spread throughout Germany once again. Danzig has joined Germany,, thanks to the Great Powers. First the Rhineland, then the Saar, then Austria, then Italy, now Danzig! What will be next?
The German government has ruled in favor of Romania, as Transylvania is mostly ethnically Romanian.
More developments have been made into rockets. Many wonder what this will lead to.
In a secret meeting between Otto Wels and Vyacheslav Molotov on the topic of a possible Romanian invasion . Otto Wels was in favor of the invasion, or at least, fine with it.
The day has come. Many argue for joining the Allies, as they have granted Germany much land. But, the Soviets have been their friends for 2 decades. The government has ruled in favor of the Soviets. Many agree that even without the Allies' approval of German lands joining with Germany, Germany would've sent troops into these lands and annex it. War looms over Europe...
Not wanting to make war even more eminent, the Germans have collaborated with the Soviet Union to divide Poland, if war were to come.
The Soviets accept Germany's suggestion.
In order to gear up for such a war the Reichswehr has been mobilized. Europe is getting closer to another war...
Konrad Zuse's "computer" has been introduced in Berlin to government officials. The government has once again funded Zuse to advance is research into his "computers". Many see this as the future of communication within many decades.
Albert Einstein has once again developed more advanced reactors. And, just like before, the government has funded Einstein's research. Even though many in the science community very much support his research, more pacifist scientists criticize him. Saying how he's helping an imperialist country develop reactors and such, that could lead to weapons of mass destruction.
The KPD-SPD coalition has once again won the Reichstag election. Many credit this to them becoming the "Parties of Victory". After-all, who was in control of the administration when Italy was successfully invaded? Or when Austria joined Germany? Many center-leftists , centrists, and center-rightists voted for the leftist coalition. It was a easy victory. The Zentrum, Conservatives, and DNVP have slowly started to go down hill...
The right-wing Nationalist China has annexed the fairly weak Communist China. The USSR has denounced Nationalist China's actions. Along with that, many communist parties have also denounced their actions, including the KPD. KPD chairman Ernst Torgler gave a speech denouncing their actions.
With even more funding from the government another Zuse "computer" machine has been developed.
With pressure from the League of Nations the Czech government was forced to hold a plebiscite in Sudetenland to either stay in Czechoslovakia or join Germany. With a strong economy, and cultural connections an overwhelming majority decided to join Germany. The Czech government reluctantly released Sudetenland to Germany.
The world was shocked when the news came. The official declaration of war quickly passed through the Reichstag. The German army was stationed across their borders. Many parties and nations denounced the actions. Many international volunteers flooded into Switzerland. Mostly coming from France, the UK, Spain, and some right-wing Italians. Along with that, militias formed throughout Switzerland to fight against Germany and Italy. But, in majority German and Italian areas counter-militias were formed. Street fights occurred throughout major German cities. The bloodiest being in Zurich.
Under Wernher von Braun another project has been borne fruit. This time, with strategic rockets. These would be able to send rockets from one province and blow up in another one. Many say this is the future of warfare.
Unsurprisingly the Swiss army, militias, and foreign volunteers stood no chance against the large German army. However, some units to escape German occupied Switzerland. They made their way through the mountains, and launched guerrilla attacks onto unsuspecting Italian units. Eventually, they launched another guerrilla attack onto Milan. They looted the city the best they could. But, they only were there for a short time. German
reinforcements entered city, and the starving troops surrendered.
With this, the Swiss government surrendered to Germany. The militias and foreign volunteers were called off. But, even after Switzerland was annexed, the new German government let the foreign volunteers get medals. Once annexed, they didn't become a puppet. With a majority German population, the Reichstag decided not to let them become a puppet. Many across the world criticized the government's actions.
Germany has advanced their intelligence technology, with the "Lorenz Cipher".
Conveniently, the same year, 1941 hosts the World Cup, after the war was over. The German soccer team has started to train a lot to win!
Huzzah for science!
The war is over, but Germany is preparing for whatever the next war will be. But, with producing sturdy equipment. This will held the army invade territories that have rough terrain.
After a while, Wernher von Braun has been commissioned to research the strategic rocket. Nicknamed"V2".
With a KPD-SPD majority in the Reichstag, and many more center-right voters in favor of the coalition, the Presidential spot has been given to Ludwig Renn, a Stalinist. Even though this upset many of the more right leaning voters, Renn promised for a more "centrist policy".
Albert Einstein has once again advanced his research into his reactors. Many more in the science community has criticized his work with the German government, after the invasion of Switzerland. Einstein has refused to give his opinion of the invasion of Switzerland.
And once again, huzzah to science.
What will Germany do next? Invade the Allies? Or perhaps the Soviets? Will they develop a-bombs? And will they use them? Find out next time on...Long Live the Republic! A Mixed Mod AAR!
After getting several Heer officers hired, along with a team of scientists to develop remote controlled weapons. The experiments show a promising future for remote-controlled vehicles.
American spies have managed to smuggle arms and supplies to several rebel groups in the ethnically Italian parts of Switzerland. These groups are usually in favor of re-gaining Swiss independence, or for Italian Switzerland to be independent. Many of these rebels were veterans of the German-Swiss War, and still think they have a shot at independence. After the government found out, local police and military raided the bases of the rebels, and arrested over a dozen rebel leaders.
German engineers and military officers have been put to work developing light tanks for any future combat. They were successful, being fast and still deal damaging blows.
General Fritz Todt has passed away. Even though he was a member of the Nazi Party since 1922, he quickly switched sides during the March Coup. Since 1933 he helped revolutionize the German army, and lead the invasions of Italy and Switzerland.
Albert Einstein has once again has been commissioned by the government to continue his nuclear research. Now with a full sized team in Innsbruck (where a nuclear reactor is already placed) the research should go much faster.
Huzzah for science!
Under command by
Lutz Graf Schwerin von Krosigk the Mark has been evaluated. With this, the German economy has become more competitive.
Operation North has been launched. In order to set up a satellite state near the Soviet Union the High Command has decided to invade Finland. 24 divisions have landed on the shores of Northern Finland, and quickly advanced, occupying the city of Vaasa. But, the Finnish are not ones to give up. Rebels have sabotaged German infrastructure, and street fights have occurred between Finnish citizens and the invaders. Often leading in the injury of German soldiers.
Quickly, German troops traveled through Finland. More of the rebel attacks have occurred. The biggest being in Helsinki. After German troops defeating Finnish troops in Helsinki, the city erupted in violence. When German troops entered the city they were met with gun shots and Molotov cocktails. It took hours and hours for German troops to advance through the city and settle the violence. Snipers often shot and killed German troops from the apartments. It was difficult to tell who was a innocent civilian and who was a rebel. This lead to...very violent measures by troops. The city erupted into flames, and many were killed, on both sides. The international community was outraged by the actions of German troops.
After defeating another Finnish army troops entered Kouvola and Vipuri. Once again the attackers were met with attacks from the local populace. The Panzer divisions quickly settled the matters in the two cities.
In the Treaty of Oslo the Finnish surrendered to the Germans. A puppet government was quickly set up in Finland, with the
Social Democratic Party of Finland gaining power. Again, many in the international community were appalled by the German actions in Finland.
While on a security briefing in Finland, German minister Eugen Gerstenmaier was in a taxi outside of Helsinki. On the small road, several men ran out from a local farm and tried to kill the German minister with tommy guns. The shots broke through the windows, but the bullets barely missed him. His local guard, who were in two cars behind the cab sped to catch the men. After several days, the men were caught in an inn in northern Estonia. They were a company of 4, 2 Finnish and 2 American. After tense negotiations it was revealed that the two Americans were spies, and the 2 Finnish men were resistance fighters hired by the Americans. All four men were sentenced for life in jail.
With war looming ever closer in Europe, many were relieved that the World Cup was to occur this year. This time, we jump over to Argentina, more specifically Buenos Aires to see the world's soccer teams compete.
The US has adopted a policy to have trained medical staff to be placed closer to the front lines. Many remember the horrific deaths of soldiers during the Great War, and how field hospitals with the best of the best doctors were often miles away from the front lines, and thus many died. before they could make it to safety.
The Buenos Aires World Cup has ended. German did not win this year, but this doesn't mean the German soccer team did not work hard.
Soviet spies have managed to funnel supplies to rebels on the Greek Islands. These rebel groups are in favor of the islands being handed over to Greece, but seeing how the islands are somewhat of a memory of the victory in Italy the islands stay as German territory. The Italian and German military have assisted the local police in arresting rebel leaders.
Nationalist sentiment has spread throughout Germany. Many say it is the right time to finally retake the lands stolen from Germany after the Great War. The DNVP has even seen a surge in votes and membership, as many members have made speeches across the country in favor of a new Great War. But, the German government has refused. Cutting off the ties in Europe would be detrimental to Germany.
Once again, this time traveling to Munich Eugen Gerstenmaier was the subject of a failed assassination attempt. While traveling through a Munich suburb shots were fired from a sniper rifle from an apartment building. This time Gerstenmaier wasn't so lucky, a bullet managed to hit his chest, only inches away from his heart. He was quickly evacuated to a local hospital while his personal guard (now increased ever since the first assassination attempt) fired back at the assassins. A street fight occurred, and more assassins popped up from the apartment building. Police arrived, local soldiers came, even regular civilians with guns helped the government forces. Finally, a dozen or so soldiers stormed the apartment building, and with help from the other forces outside the apartment took down the conspirators. Once again, the government found out from the surviving members that they were a coalition of local dissidents and American spies. Once again, these men were sent to a lifetime in prison.
An Ersatz conversion has occurred, increasing the rare materials stockpile.
Wernher von Braun has once again increased German knowledge in rockets, this time with is strategic rockets.
Oil fields have been discovered near Hollabrunn. Investors and tycoons have flocked to the oil fields to make a profit.
Messerschmitt has developed the practical turbojet engine!
In return for two failed assassination attempts against Eugen Gerstenmaier, German spies have assassinated US General Douglas MacArthur. Admittedly, he took several attempts, but the famous US general has been killed, a big blow to the US.
Mobile weapons have been further developed, this time with the mobile land mine. After several test with officers of the Heer and scientists, the experiments have turned out successful.
The nuclear reactor in Innsbruck has been upgraded once again.
Years of research from many people in the scientific field has ended up with the possibility of developing "ballistic missiles". Long range missiles which can deal damaging blows to the enemy.
Wernher von Braun has been put up to the task of developing these ballistic missiles. There are plans to mass produce them once research in complete.
What will Germany do next? Will they keep at peace? Will they ever invade the Allies? Find out next time on...Long Live the Republic! A Mixed Mod AAR!
