Hello and welcome to The Last Ghazi, my fourth go at moderating a game on these forums. This time we shall be set in early modern India, just after Mughals under Akbar have prevailed at the Battle of Panipat, securing their reconquests in Northern India. The game model will be the same as in my previous historical character games; the focus is on characters and narratives rather than on countries and stats.
Joining the game
Joining is simple; just post a ‘character sheet’. The preference is, as usual, on historical characters which are also listed below. However this time I will also allow ahistorical, or player-created characters, but those must be within reason. Don’t expect to be allowed to begin the game as a ruler if you make one. The game’s region, at least for now, is also limited to the attached maps and the realms marked on it, so don’t even bother to ask about playing a Deccani or Safavid noble.
Name:
Date of Birth/Age: (Ask me if in doubt)
Culture/Religion: (Quite obvious, I hope)
Family: (Relatives, such as your wives, children, siblings, cousins etc.)
Biography: (Short background story for your character, and a summary of his life and deeds as the game progresses)
Location: (Where your character currently resides, again ask me if you aren’t sure)
Just like in my previous games, family additions happen via IC: one child per consort every two years is the limit, though there may be special cases in which I'll intervene.
Rules, Orders and Updates
This time the game is considerably ‘lighter’ than my usual ones, to reduce my burden and to allow me to continue moderating it even when my life gets busier times. Thus, this post won’t be too long either. If you have already played a game of mine, just go make your character and maybe read this later. If not, then this might actually be worthy of reading. Stats, simply speaking, are the financial and military resources of each state. There will not be stats for individual characters, as the main driving force is their IC actions, intrigues and narratives. Do not worry, each character’s influences, wealth and such will be represented, just not with numbers. The realm stats are there just to give a general idea about the status of each state, as well as to make it easier to keep track of militaries, which are the main focus of the system.
Military stats should be rather simple. There are three army types in the game: Persianate (Influenced by Steppe and Persian military technology), Muslim Indian (armies of the traditional Musilm states of Hindustan) and Rajput (armies of the Hindu Rajput warrior states). Each of them has its own advantages, and slightly different unit costs.
The realm stats can be changed with orders. Each sovereign leader (in some cases a regent) has a state-wide realm order to be used for large-scale realm-wide actions. The generals, governors and officials of each state also have an administrative order to handle their official position. Then, each and every character will also have one personal order, to be used on furthering their own position, managing their own influence, intrigues and wealth. So in short. Rules get 2+1 orders, officials of any sort 1+1 and all the others 1. Remember, a multitude of personal actions (which don't affect others or your stats) can also be done via IC, contact me to be sure.
War is a different thing, and is dealt with ‘war plans’. War plans are used for every military action, for recruitment and the bloodshed itself. Large construction programs, such as a huge new fort are normal actions though, while some quick field fortifications belong to the war plans. Every character in command of a military force may use these in a time of war, and the rulers and general commanders are to allocate command to various player and NPC lieutenants and officers. Wars will mostly be dealt with in minis, so war plans usually have their own due dates. The length and actions of a war plan are technically unlimited, but keep it within reason. Usually the more detailed is the better, but don’t expect me to read a novel about 16th century arrow designs. And on the other hand, don’t overextend your troops.
Orders will be sent to me via PM, like this:
To: XVG
Subject: [The Last Ghazi] – Amir Ebin Khan of Maymaystan
Message text:
Realm Order:
Administrative Order:
Personal Order:
War Plan:
Using the same message chain/conversation for each turn's orders, mini orders and quick questions is the best for sake of clarity.
IRC
As usual, there is an OOC IRC Channel. Not obligatory, but very useful, and in fact recommended.
Network: http://www.coldfront.net/
Channel name: #TA
Instructions:
1) Go to ColdFront using the link above.
2) Choose the Flash or Java Client
3) Create a screen name
4) The client will auto-add you to #coldfront. Leave this channel.
5) In the command box type "/join #TA"
You should then be logged in and ready to go.
