Hi all, as you know we at Paradox, quite unusually for a company of our size, have a robust policy of keeping prior versions of the game available so you can finish old saves/MP games, etc. Most companies don't bother with this, but we really like to give you this freedom to finish that game, or play on the version that you like best.

Anyway, this thing called GDPR came along and with it a whole bunch of new legal text that we have to show you. From 2.1.3 onwards, Stellaris is compliant with this, but previous versions are not.

That put us in a condundrum: the amount of work required to recompile old versions to be compliant would be extreme (if it's even still possible at all), and the option of just deleting old versions entirely was never going to be acceptable to us, or you.

So, we settled on a compromise to allow you to both see the required legalese as the law demands, but still play old versions if you want. Basically, you'll need to put in a password to unlock the Steam beta branch, that can be got via the following process:

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ying-previous-versions-of-pds-titles.1120883/

Those changes have gone in to effect as of right now. Hopefully it doesn't disrupt you too much, this was the best compromise solution we could find. I really, really wish we were cool enough to somehow work some Orwellian nightmare state mind control conspiracy in to this, but really, it's just the minimum necessary footwork to deal with this new and non-negotiable legal reality in the EU.

Good luck, have fun playing. This won't be required again as all future versions will be in accordance with the regulations. Thanks for bearing with us.
