For this next week, I am going to name @Prominences Character WritAAR of the Week for the multitude of characters in The Red Crown, latest of which are Specialist Heu and King Corrado.

All of the important characters are very distinctive and memorable, and with each new ruler we get a POV appropriate to his personality - which now happens to be an observer on a strange mission. Congratulations!

Bravo, great nomination @alscon, he is one of the great character writers on this forum and Heu is an interesting character - a time travelling observer in the king’s head is unusual for CK2, but he really makes it work. Warmest congratulations @Prominences, very well deserved. :) Many of your characters could be candidates for this award.

Wow, I'm really flattered! I think this is the second time I've gotten this award now. I feel a little greedy, like I've been double-dipping on this one...

Still, I'm very grateful to everyone who's stuck with my little AAR this far (and put up with all my artsy perspective-switching experiments). Now I just have to keep putting my money where my mouth is!

If I'm not too early, I'd like to name the next Best Character Writer of the Week, and my pick goes to @GregoryTheGreat and the Spiruponderan Consensus of his young but very interesting Stellaris AAR, Peace in a Violent Galaxy.

It's a very fleshed-out exploration of vastly different cultures and outlooks; I particularly like the examination of the Spiruponderans' internal politics and culture (I still say Shusk was the best First Speaker they had, but I digress), and it has a good balance of drama and light humor. I hope to see more from this one in the future.

Congratulations!

Oh.
Thank you, @Prominences .
I am shocked and flattered to have received this award, being as I am entirely new to writing AAR's.
I guess I should add this to my signature...which entails actually getting around to making a signature....Did I mention that I'm new?
I am deeply delighted that readers have been enjoying my weird tales of peaceful snail scientists competing to rationally understand the improbable state of their galaxy (or at least achieve sufficiently spectacular scientific results to win an election.)

I already have an idea of who I would like to nominate, but I suppose that I should wait until next week.

Thank you again, very much.

It's my honor to nominate an author whose work inspired me in my own character work for my first AAR.
I am honestly surprised that @RossN hadn't received this award yet for the richly detailed society of the Baviir Stellar Principality of On Azure Wings - An Apocalypse AAR. The society itself is fully fleshed out with complex political institutions, multiple religions, and exquisitely detailed culture, all of which steadily evolve over the course of centuries. Populating this society are dozens of memorable scientists, admirals, rulers, and would-be rulers each with interesting motivations and histories--and most impressively a truly beautiful integration of what could've been AAR-ending catastrophe into the pre-established norms of the society, while also managing to take it in an intriguing new direction (which I won't spoil for those of you who haven't read it.)

A fine choice! I only recently found out about that AAR since I've been reading more Stellaris material recently. Congratulations @RossN , very well deserved!

Wow, thank you so much @GregoryTheGreat! I'm as flattered as I am shocked! And thanks for your kind words @Prominences!

Writing 'On Azure Wings' was a very different experience for me. It is written in history book style like almost all my AAR writing, but this is the first time I've designed a species and culture from the ground up (with a lot of help from the wonderful events the game kept throwing at me.) More than once I wondered if I was on the right track, but it was also a great deal of fun to work on and to play.

As I've said I write mostly history book style. I can write narrative - at least if my unpublished Saved By the Bell fanfic is any indication (Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski forever!) - but with games spanning decades and centuries it is just easier for me to write it as a history. Still, I do try and give my characters personality, maybe even allow them to use their voices once in a while. I don't think I really deserve to be with some of the great character writers here but I am glad you saw something in the stories of starfaring sapient peafowl that worked for you. Thank you very much. :)

Most deserved, congratulations @RossN !

Congrats @RossN

And I just saw you started a new Vicky2 AAR. Be sure that I will take a look at it when I have some times. :)

Well done @RossN for another very worthy nod! Great to see you still trodding the boards, as it were. :D
