CHAPTER 5 - CONSOLIDATION
Uuen wanted more. He had established a decent Kingdom on the Isles but still the power brokers of Lombardy, France and the Byzantines laughed at him. He wanted more. He started by naming himself King of England, becoming Uuen Thrice-Crowned.
upload_2017-4-24_21-4-8.png

He used his new title to press his claim upon all the Land that should be his by rights. Some, like Middlesex and Norfolk joined his realm peacefully while others, such as Hwicce, had to be convinced via an army.
upload_2017-4-24_21-7-49.png

Uuen continued to broker marriages, allowing him to gain new friends from across the sea.
upload_2017-4-24_21-9-4.png

He gave out titles to his vassals to ensure their continued loyalty.
upload_2017-4-24_21-9-44.png

Next, he made a massive diplomatic move by managing to secure, through much hard work, a non-aggression pact with some Bishop in Russia.
upload_2017-4-24_21-9-54.png

The pathetic wimp on the Scottish throne attempted to re-open diplomacy with the Welsh. Uuen had none of it.
upload_2017-4-24_21-11-29.png

Uuen had his second son, who he named after his father, Irb, the man Uuen had always aspired to be like.
upload_2017-4-24_21-11-59.png

While Uuen's first child with his cousin's daughter resulted in a genius, the second child was not so bright.
upload_2017-4-24_21-13-0.png

The pathetic excuse for a Pope called off his quest to claim the Holy Land.
upload_2017-4-24_21-13-59.png

Uuen created entire new Duchys, all in the name of ensuring internal peace.
upload_2017-4-24_21-14-37.png

Uuen enacted a controversial new law, forbidding the exit of vassal titles from his Kingdoms.
upload_2017-4-24_21-15-41.png

Uuen had another illegitimate child. The child was blessed with the same mental affliction as his brother.
upload_2017-4-24_21-16-50.png

Uuen continued to work on securing internal alliances, becoming friends with the Duke of Mercia.
upload_2017-4-24_21-18-16.png

Uuen's heir came of age and was promptly married off to a lesbian genius.
upload_2017-4-24_21-20-55.png

The vassals were becoming restless with the constant wars. Uuen had to keep them in check.
upload_2017-4-24_21-21-11.png

Uuen named his third son after himself. He saw the best of himself reflected in that boy and resolved to become a kinder person.
upload_2017-4-24_21-21-54.png

upload_2017-4-24_21-22-47.png

Things worsened for Podric...
upload_2017-4-24_21-23-48.png

Uuen realised that he was becoming old. He was becoming withered by old age and with every year that passed the laughter from the European Kings grew louder. Uuen began a Grand Campaign - a never ending war with the Scottish that that would end with the death of Scotland, or the death of Uuen himself.
He started by assassinating the Scottish King.
upload_2017-4-24_21-25-35.png

Guess who became the new King? That's right, it's the boy Uuen had conquered Moray for. Uuen did not let his fond memories of the boy detract from his quest to get some respect.
upload_2017-4-24_21-26-52.png

Some time earlier Uuen had ordered a set of glorious crown jewels, enough to made even the Byzantines jealous. He couldn't even have that.
upload_2017-4-24_21-27-41.png

One of Uuen's most fruitful alliances broke down as a 28 year old Khagan died from an infection after too much horse riding.
upload_2017-4-24_21-28-29.png

Uuen's second son, Irb, became nothing like the Welsh King. He was a shy and stubborn boy, often sulking away quietly. He had gained a passable knowledge of warfare but nothing compared to the incomparable wisdom picked up by the first Irb.
upload_2017-4-24_21-29-18.png

Uuen's first illegitimate son, Ninian, became an adult. He had gained little to no knowledge in anything, but that was to be expected from a drooling boy with 6 fingers on his left hand. Uuen decided to balance things out and therefore betrothed him to another inbred child.
upload_2017-4-24_21-31-36.png

Uuen took his anger at the Scottish out on a lowborn Mayor captured in battle.
upload_2017-4-24_21-33-53.png

Uuen Thrice-Crowned decided to become more progressive. By that I mean he allowed women to orchestrate assassinations for him.
upload_2017-4-24_21-34-37.png

Uuen paid extra money to get builders from his home culture. He thought about rolling it out across the realm but stopped when his wife caught him referring to himself as "Donald".
upload_2017-4-24_21-37-6.png

Uuen's son Irb finally decided to do something with his life rather than sitting around the Castle begging for titles. Uuen let him go.
upload_2017-4-24_21-37-20.png

The King continued to make sure that his vassals would not conspire against him.
upload_2017-4-24_21-38-35.png

After so many wars with Scotland, so many broken truces, Uuen had changed his family name from the hallmark of prestige, the ultimate underdog story, to a dynasty spat on and hated by everyone else, a name that would echo throughout the ages (just not in the way Uuen had hoped for). Ironically, Uuen had broken all these truces, started all these wars for respect which he already had. He had been loved and now, in his quest for prestige, he had lost it all. He was still known as "the Noble" but it had become a cruel jape, an ironic twist on the word.
upload_2017-4-24_21-38-46.png

Nonetheless, Uuen blissfully made allegiances with the very Kings who hated him.
upload_2017-4-24_21-42-51.png

Uuen Thrice-Crowned had killed his dynasty's prestige. But in the end, he had the respect he had craved. Through fear. Uuen walked into his throne room and was given his fourth crown. The one that mattered. The realm of Britannia was his. At the age of 65, a new Emperor rises. Emperor Uuen "the Noble".

LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!

Long live the emperor!

...Now what are the odds the AI mucks it up within a generation?

I'm rooting for that random independent bishop in the middle of the Manichean steppes :p
If he hasn't conquered the world by 1444, this game seriously needs a patch.

Long live the emperor!

I for one am getting super psyched to see Britannia be split apart 5 years after Uuen dies.

Well everybody will absolutely hate his heir, considering the previous ruler opinion penalty.

Only create those if primo, else all your work goes poof.:( Worst case, destory all but one kingdom and recreate if there's different inheritance models used over the different kingdoms!

Ah. There were a 30th page. Right.:p

Well everybody will absolutely hate his heir, considering the previous ruler opinion penalty.
The penalty expires in 10 years, so if Uuen manages to stick around until then Britannia has a chance.

Only create those if primo, else all your work goes poof.:( Worst case, destory all but one kingdom and recreate if there's different inheritance models used over the different kingdoms!
I made sure to use only primogeniture for this purpose :). However I may destroy a Kingdom title or 2 to keep power centralised.

And another region solidified. Who cares for the means.

Such progress! Well done.

Such progress! Well done.
I see that the Imperial Family is still Pictish, how many territories (if any) have the same culture? Have you decided to move the Capital or will it stay in Desmond?

And another region solidified. Who cares for the means.

Now we just need to clean up Scandinavia and break up the Byzies, and we'll have a beautiful Europe.

Such progress! Well done.
I see that the Imperial Family is still Pictish, how many territories (if any) have the same culture? Have you decided to move the Capital or will it stay in Desmond?
I accidentally moved the capital to Kildare while trying to set it as my crown focus. Maybe Uuen's descendants will move it back.
I think only a few have the pictish culture, but as far as I can remember 2 of those counties are Kildare and Desmond.

Center of Ireland isn't a bad place for the Capital. Kind of interesting to have Pictish/Welsh ruling over the english lands from Ireland.

CHAPTER 6 - UUEN'S THREE GREAT CONQUESTS
DISCLAIMER - Things take a turn for the weird here.

Uuen had just claimed his fourth crown when a beautiful mystic, wearing a long black robe similar to that worn by Uuen's fathers "private parties" he held in the basements of Desmond Keep, approached the new Emperor in a secluded corridor of the castle.
"Three conquests you shall have, Uuen", she whispered.
"The first, your greatest foe,"
"The second, all man's greatest foe,"
"The third, your brother's greatest foe."
Uuen tried to ask her what in God's Great Kingdom she was talking about but she stepped away and vanished into shadow. Uuen sighed and got back to work, preparing for his reign.

Uuen started his tenure as Emperor in the same vein as his father's ascendancy to Wales - with a massive tournament.

upload_2017-4-27_20-56-58.png

With this distraction in the background, he arranged his real plan - the ascension of his brother, Ardle, to the Papacy.
upload_2017-4-27_20-58-55.png

He declared war that same day.
upload_2017-4-27_20-59-23.png

After a few years of fighting mercenaries, Uuen made his brother the new Pope.
upload_2017-4-27_20-59-39.png

He was a wicked, homosexual man, known for his cowardice and greed. In short, the perfect puppet.
upload_2017-4-27_21-0-15.png

Uuen wasn't ready to give up on his Scottish-hating roots. He declared another war and broke another truce.
upload_2017-4-27_21-1-9.png

The Pope's wickedness became well-known.
upload_2017-4-27_21-1-52.png

Uuen's heir of heir - Irb - was becoming massively lazy.
upload_2017-4-27_21-4-43.png

Uuen's army slew the man he had once elevated, a man who had (much like Uuen's family) risen from nothing to everything. Uuen returned him to the dirt and began to wonder...could he do the same? Go back to nothingness, in an even worse position than when Irb had been a de facto Earl?
upload_2017-4-27_21-4-52.png

Speaking of Irbs - Uuen's pathetic son had somehow risen to Grandmaster of the Knights of Calatrava.
upload_2017-4-27_21-6-55.png

As Uuen's age advanced, his health became more fragile. He got more and more scared of the doom awaiting him, awaiting everyone, the doom that would one day crush his Dynasty to dust.
upload_2017-4-27_21-7-42.png

Luckily for him, the illness was mild and he still had the memento from his cousin's daughter that gave him the will to cling to life.
upload_2017-4-27_21-9-7.png

upload_2017-4-27_21-9-14.png

Uuen defeats Scotland once more, but the ultimate victory is not his - not yet.
upload_2017-4-27_21-9-51.png

Uuen's son, named after himself, had brought out kindness in Uuen when he was a babe. Now, Uuen felt none of that kindness when he looked at what his son had become, a fool who indiscreetly spent time with men...that was, when he spent any intimate time with anyone at all, a man who had learned nothing next to nothing after his years of education. The Emperor began to feel when he looked at the boy, how could his family be trusted to continue the work he had spent his whole life on? How could they be trusted to remain vigilant, to get next-to-no sleep most nights, pouring over maps and trade routes and diplomatic envoys? To destroy Scotland and to defeat the scum that lived over the ocean, laughing at the Empire Uuen had spent his reign building? Uuen realised...he had to do something.
upload_2017-4-27_21-10-3.png

Uuen heard of a rare artifact. He sent the Chancellor on a mission to find it.
upload_2017-4-27_21-12-17.png

Uuen woke up in a cold sweat. He had dreamt of the Basileus sweeping his armies across Ireland, of the Boy-King of Scotland retaking the land he had once held, of the King of Mercia coming back and claiming Southern England for his own. This had to end. Uuen called a meeting.
upload_2017-4-27_21-15-31.png

Uuen sent out his Duke on this mission.
upload_2017-4-27_21-18-0.png

Uuen had to pour money into this enterprise.
upload_2017-4-27_21-18-48.png

While actively engaging in this forbidden quest and conquering Scottish land, Uuen still found time to make diplomatic arrangements.
upload_2017-4-27_21-19-24.png

The Duke of Lancaster reported hearing "strange voices" to Uuen. The Emperor, naturally, kept the man as far away from him as possible.
upload_2017-4-27_21-20-21.png

Uuen's heir of his heir, Irb, came of age. Uuen took one look at the boy's intelligence and began to look into his quest with renewed vigour.
upload_2017-4-27_21-21-28.png

Uuen's advances into immortality came to naught, so he began focusing on the Scottish war, looking for one last hurrah by defeating his mortal enemy once and for all.
upload_2017-4-27_21-22-7.png

The Pope declared a Crusade for Jerusalem. Uuen thought it a perfect way to end his eventful life - one last hurrah!
upload_2017-4-27_21-24-9.png

He joined a few months later.
upload_2017-4-27_21-25-33.png

Something strange happened - one year after Uuen had stopped wondering about immortality, a masked woman appeared at his court. He was 70 now and getting closer to death with each breath he took. He had accepted the inevitable downfall of his dynasty and his Empire - but what if he could change that? Uuen became a new man, more confident and ambitious than ever, ready to take on whatever life threw at him.
upload_2017-4-27_21-25-51.png

Uuen began his adventure into the arcane.
upload_2017-4-27_21-32-26.png

He managed to convince the mystic to (at least publicly) accept the teachings of the Catholic faith.
upload_2017-4-27_21-32-44.png

Uuen's only good son - Iduallon - worried about the woman's attentions. Uuen understood his concern but he realised that he was in his 70s now - he could die content, a man who had given everything for power, or stay alive and watch over his Empire for years to come. He had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
upload_2017-4-27_21-33-46.png

Uuen held a feast so as to find warriors to aid him in his adventure.
upload_2017-4-27_21-36-6.png

This huge feat catapulted him into debt but after a quick letter to his brother Ardle (or Anastasius as he was now known) he had nothing to worry about.
upload_2017-4-27_21-37-40.png

Uuen's war was complete. He had vanquished his age-old enemies, those who had tormented the Welsh, who had until recently been the only power on the Isles. Uuen had vanquished over the Scottish. He had crushed them into dust and completed his first conquest - that of Scotland.
upload_2017-4-27_21-38-4.png

Uuen had destroyed his biggest foe and others gave him more respect. He was still hated in Europe but his vassals adored him.
upload_2017-4-27_21-39-53.png

The duchys in Scotland quickly realised that to keep their land they would have to swear fealty - Uuen had united the Isles under his rule.
upload_2017-4-27_21-41-44.png

Uuen held a feast for a month to celebrate - and while the nobles were drunk in his Great Hall, Uuen was penning up documents in his Study, centralising his power around Wales and Ireland.
upload_2017-4-27_21-43-16.png

upload_2017-4-27_21-43-27.png

An upstart Pope was elected in Carpathia. Uuen wasn't worried about the Horse Lord.
upload_2017-4-27_21-43-39.png

Uuen realised that if he was to succeed in his adventure for immortality he could have no injuries - a man in his 70s was luggage enough. He lost the illness and paid a heavy price - but it was well worth it, at least in his mind.
upload_2017-4-27_21-44-50.png

Uuen sent his entire army to Jerusalem in a massive War Fleet with over 700 ships.
upload_2017-4-27_21-45-44.png

Uuen's wound healed. He was ready to begin his quest.
upload_2017-4-27_21-46-39.png

Uuen's path is blocked and his followers want to give up - but he rallies them and they clear the blockage. During all this, as if by magic, muscles packed themselves onto his 74-year-old frame. The path is cleared and the group rejoices, Uuen feeling 20 years younger.
upload_2017-4-27_21-48-10.png

upload_2017-4-27_21-48-31.png

Uuen faced the most difficult task yet on his journey - dealing with internal strife. After ruling for 60 years however, he had picked up some tips on how to deal with these problems.
upload_2017-4-27_21-50-2.png

Uuen had a "Winger moment" and delivered an epic speech that inspired his men. He had delivered on his second great conquest - that of Death. He knew his Empire and dynasty were secure.
upload_2017-4-27_21-53-4.png

75 years young.
upload_2017-4-27_21-53-14.png

Uuen's armies won him a huge battle at Arsuf, crushing the enemy forces.
upload_2017-4-27_21-53-33.png

Uuen kept thinking about his wife. He felt so guilty for not securing her life as well as his own. He hadn't felt this bad since...well, since his cousin's daughter died. How did he overcome that feeling? He struggled to remember and then it hit him. He had found Wisigarda. Uuen decided to drown his feelings of guilt and sorrow in a sea of pleasure.
upload_2017-4-27_21-54-30.png

Finally, Uuen had his third conquest - the conquest of Religion. He and all of Christendom had struck a decisive blow to the formerly great religion in the East, Islam.
upload_2017-4-27_21-58-10.png

All behold Uuen, Noblest of all Lords, Emperor of the Isles, King of Jerusalem, Wales and Ireland, vanquisher of Death, destroyer of Islam and slayer of Scotland.
LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!

The life of Uuen truly is great story. And as we never planned for an immortal character... Of course he can still die, but I would suggest to pass on the torch :).

Holy... That's new. All hail the emperor eternal!

King of Jerusalem and Ageless, simply spectacular especially considering his humble beginnings. Aren't you glad you decided to go with the minor 'barely' a Duke instead of the King of Africa?
