Coleraine (Londonderry), Northern Ireland
Ulster Unionist Rally

“Fair people of Coleraine! What a pleasure it is for me to be here with you today, accompanied by our very dynamic Ulster Unionists candidate, a man you all know, a friend of the people, William Ross! Now, needless for me to tell you what an important role William played in bringing down the IDA. He has been devoted to all his constituents from day one on this debate and has been a steadfast and stalwart defender of free market economics where all of you stand a chance to find sustainable employment, rather than unsustainable unemployment benefits.

While it is clearly understood that Labour has bankrupted our nation, thrown millions of Britons out of jobs, led to the exodus of billions of pounds in capital, I believe it is quite important that you be informed of the role Labour’s silent partner played in this whole mess, I name the spineless Liberal Party.

You see, the Liberals are odd fellows. One day, they vote with Labour to impose taxes on the shoulders of fellow Britons. The other day, when they can smell electoral catastrophe, they turn their cloak and vote the other way. This is what you get when instead of principles, you have an electoral compass. Nobody is served by a party who swings with the wind.

Now it has been said that we could have defeated this government sooner, that a vote of no-confidence could have been brought forward by Opposition Leader Ryley. It is true, it is true. The vote could also have been brought by Mr. Grimond, the Liberal leader. Instead, what have we done? Knowing this Prime Minister was going to the polls in May, we worked very hard will elected officials of all stripes to repeal the most nefarious legislation this country ever knew in a long time. It was quite simply a great success which enables us to campaign on the post-IDA policies to adopt, rather than to divide ourselves for and against the IDA.

The Ulster Unionist Party has always been there for you all. We will continue to fight in Westminster for you all. We will work tirelessly to ensure that taxation remains low while services remain of good quality. This current Labour government is quite simply applying mad economics. Alistair Monaghan doesn’t care for you. He stamps tax hikes in a single year that really hurts you. When you see that he raised taxes of the higher income by 17%, and that he then proceeded to expel from this country and dispossess those very same person he taxed, I would just say, beware, dear middle-class, when Mr. Monaghan’s need money next, because you will be stripped and gutted, simple as that.

The alternative is real. There is another way, a better way. The Ulster Unionists and their Conservative allies can and will deliver prosperity for all Britons. The time where Labour pitted one part of the country against another is about to end. You can effect real change, by voting William Ross and the Ulster Unionist Party!

Thank you very much!”

Ulster Unionist Rally

“My fellow constituents. My friends.

What a campaign it has been. I have travelled all across Northern Ireland on behalf of our beloved Ulster Unionist Party and I must tell you that I come home with the feeling of having done my duty.

Today, as we head to the polling stations, we have a dire and grave decision to make. This election will determine the path upon which our nation is to continue. On one hand, Labour wishes to bring you down the road to serfdom, to communism. Their policies lead inevitably down that terrible path, no matter what they try to say to hide this.

On the other hand, the Ulster Unionist Party and its Conservative allies will bring the nation on a path to sustainability, sound economic management, and prosperity for all Britons.

You have heard the arguments, you have hear the speeches. Now you have a decision to make.

I leave my fate in your hands, and I am going home, confident in the incredible team of dedicated Ulstermen we fielded in all of our constituencies.

We have spoke at length, today, the only voice to be heard will be yours.

Thank you for your support!”

((Also, I'm going backpacking this weekend, so there's going to be no wifi at all. If somehow we do actually win, jeeshadow is authorized to speak for the party / do prime ministerial things on my behalf until I return.))

((As my IC was lost to the vastness of internet and my computer broke down for a few days, I shall keep this brief and hope KingHigh counts my vote))

It was three days after the Prime Minister went to the Queen that Thornbloom experienced some minor health issues. Although largely incapable of his usually quite extensive campaigning during the pre-election period, he wrote a series of letters to constituents, fellow Tory MPs and donors. His message of fiscal conservatism combined with socal moderatism against the fiscal madness brought upon Britain by the Labour Party, which he had usually reitterated through many election periods in person, would now be spread across the Isles on paper. It was only a few days before polling day that Thornbloom acted once again as main speaker - having campaigned in his Constituency and appearing on Party Conferences as a secondary speaker - at a rally in his relatively safe constituency, Salisbury.

Friends,

I shan't ask you to support the Welsh Tree, who has proven as silent as the Labour Party has proven incapable of producing sound economic policies, however, I ask you I beg you, as fellow Briton concerned with the wealth and welfare of this nation and our children, to vote for the Conservative Party. A Labour Government, which has brought about mayham and chaos in the greatest diamond of post-war Britain, our industries, and the collapse of our financial backbone, the City, continues to deny any wrong-doing with these greats failures and fails to recognize that it has put the livelihoods of many common Britons on the line in the name of an irrational, indefensable and incoherrent ideological dogma. This Labour Government now seeks the confidence of you, the British People, to continue these disastrous policies.
This Confidence we shall not and cannot provide.

How then shall we return stability to our financial markets and strength to our industries? Through fiscal conservatism. No longer tax hikes of an extra 17% on the incomes of hard working British citizens. No longer Labour overregulation and syndicalisation tying down our industries, our economy and our livelihoods. No longer Labour fiscal and diplomatic isolationism and division threatening the future of our nation, children and economy. The Conservatives shall provide a freer market, in which all can truly achieve to their ability, and freer society, in which ones property is not threatend by syndicalisation from above.

Britain cannot take another Labour Government! Vote Conservative - for wealth, homes and stability!

"Britain Needs Decisive Leadership from the Right" - Thornbloom
London, May 23rd - Although his previous health issues had prevented him from contributing to the earlier stages Conservative Campaign, the former Chancellor and Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Thornbloom, has made a late political offensive to assist the Conservative war machine - although remaining critical of its leader. In this interview we ask the former head of the treasury what his views are on the current economic situation and the state of the Conservative Party.

Many political commentators were shocked when you joined your fellow MPs in the division lobby during the vote to repeal the IDA as it saved your opponent, Mr. Ryley, from a shameful defeat in the Commons and weakend in the face of a possible leadership challange.

Well, the repeal of the Industrial Democracy Act was the first step on the long road to recovery. I had always been one of the most vocal opponents of the IDA during the Campaigns and in parliament and therefore supported its repeal whole-heartidely. It was thanks to the cooperation between my friend, Lochlan Fitzpatrick and the various frontbenchers responsible for economic policy that the Repeal went through, as Ryley had dissapeared to the Welsh country side for most of the discussions in Parliament. I did not want to risk a continued economic recession and the great work done by my colleagues and myself by voting against the Repeal.

King and Country before Number 10?

(Thornbloom laugs) King and Country before Number 10.

Although the financial markets have recovered slightly from the IDA Crash two years ago, how would you solve the current problems facing our financial markets and industries?

The Repeal of the IDA was of course a first step, but we are, as you have observed yourself, far from finished. We need to decrease and reform the direct role of the Government in British Industries and the Financial Market, as both have become increasingly fragile due to the Labour Government's direct and counterproductive interventions in both at times of relative economic stability. The Chancellory should also look to decrease taxes on Entrepeneurs and the Middle Class, as they have been overburned by the Labour Government, and to increase spending and investment into the British Economy, which will work as a stimulus of the industrial and financial sectors. Lastly, the Government should deregulate many of the industries overburned by the Labour Government, otherwise they would become uncompetitive and therefore unviable in the long run.

Before we move on to other topics, we are interested in your views on Mr. Ryley, have they changed as polling day nears?

As I have said before, Britain needs decisive leadership from the right, as no other actual alternative provides moderate but decisive proposals for Britain's current situation, and I do not believe Mr. Ryley can provide it. This does not mean I do not have confidence in my colleagues, who have in the past proved their capability for example with the repeal of the Industrial Democracy Act and the Entrepeneurs Relief Act. Thus I still advice people to vote Conservative, not for its leader, but for its policies.

In the final days of the campaign, Carpenter gives a press conference, where he is asked the following question,

Reporter: Mr. Carpenter, recently Thornbloom has entered into the campaign, writing an article urging Britons to vote Conservative. As many of your attacks have been based around Thornbloom's absence in the campaign. It is hard to see how your claims are still valid.

Carpenter: They absolutely are still valid. While Thornbloom is calling for Britons to vote Tory, he is still refusing to support Ryley. Between that and Thornbloom's stunt before the campaign, it is impossible to see him being put into the Cabinet, if the Tories win. Furthermore, Ryley is still incredibly inexperienced, as he has only been Environmental Secretary, which is not a position associated with would be Prime Ministers. Furthermore, Thornbloom continued to neglect to speak on foreign policy, which was his job in the shadow cabinet. I don't see why we should take a man who did not take his job seriously as credible.

Timothy Blake passes by a new Labour poster and turns to his assistant. "Why is Labour putting up the Dutch flag everywhere?"

"Sir, put on your glasses."

The Tory MP proceeds to do just that. "Ah, how disappointing. For a second I had hoped that Labour had swapped out their Soviet handlers for the Dutch. Would have made them more tolerable, at least."

Belfast! Here we stand upon the very eve of this great election. In 1966 our entire people were shamed by the UUP as they took their ill gotten votes through discrimination to go to Westminster and bring down the government in an attempt to dismantle worker's rights. Not this day friends! We will defend the rights and powers of our trade unions against conservative aggression and radicalism! We will force the rich English bastards to pay their fair share! The days of UUP radicalism over a tax raise of 6% must be over. We cannot return to the insane tax levels of the Jacobs ministry. The UUP will shift the tax burden from their fat cat English chums to working men like you and me. We can't have that.

Go to the polls comrades, so that today in Northern Ireland, in Mid-Ulster, and here in Belfast, the entire Irish people will shout out for our republican ideals! Ireland must be whole and united and only by defeating the UUP in electoral combat can this be done. Send Unity to Westminster and we will end gerrymandering and secure a socialist alternative to Ireland and all of Britain!

- Lorcan Callaghan speaking in Belfast North

Near the end of the campaign, Carpenter gave this quick speech,

“People of Britain, this election is a most important election. The Tories want to take your jobs. The Tories want to take away your shares in your companies. The Tories want then give it all to the rich. The Tories don’t like the NHS. They claim it is too large. I think that just means more people can get the healthcare they need! Labour was the party that created the NHS. Labour is the one that secured the coal mines. Labour is the one that has always protected your jobs. The Tories bought their way into the EEC with no regard for its effect on British workers, they just wanted to make their rich friends happy. That is it. The Tories claim to want to help everyone, but they have never done that. Maybe they will come up with ideas? Not likely. The Leader of the Opposition could barely bother to campaign, leaving it up to members not even part of the Conservative Party to campaign. Labour works hard for you. Labour cares about you. Vote Labour!”

((I'm not sure where this "barely bothering to campaign" has come from other than my not being able to post the manifesto. I've still been ICing consistently, and have had IC speaking tours across a number of regions.))

Questioned as he was entering his house to await the election results about the latest Unity attacks, Lochlan Fitzpatrick had but a brief comment.

"In 1966, I canvassed Northern Ireland for the UUP and I saw great enthusiasm for our ideas by all stripes of Northern Irishmen. We've made great progress, Mr. Callaghan's attempts to rewrite history will quite simply fail because they don't hold up to the facts."

"My fellow Britons,

Tomorrow, this country has a critical decision to make. I have no doubt, given the intense campaign run by both sides, that you are by now quite familiar with the policies of both the Labour and Conservative parties. You've seen two parties with drastically different visions for Britain. It is on the merits and goals of those visions that you should cast your vote. When you see the bold new ideas of Labour and the dithering of the Conservatives, choose Labour. When you see the commitment to economic justice of Labour and the crony capitalist policies of the Tories, choose Labour. When you see the progress on social reform made by Labour and the commitment to stagnation of the Tories, choose Labour. When you see the measured, judicious foreign policy of Labour and the alternating jingoistic aggression and vague platitudes of the Tories, choose Labour. When you see the bright new tomorrow of Labour and the call for regression of the Tories, choose Labour. I ask all of you: tomorrow, when you get to your polling station, for the sake of British industry, the working class and the middle class, choose Labour!

Thank you very much."

By the way, I may or may not have cheered in the lobby of a cheap Italian hotel when I found out that Britain had voted to leave.))
