Morning, old chap. How are the wife and children? I'll have Ms. Darling bring us some tea and biscuits. The war has taken a another turn for the worse. Not that we didn't foresee it, but it is gradually escalating. The Battle of Finland is over. The Third Reich is putting it all on black. And the Allies? We are yet again on the defensive.
With President Hans Lammers uniting the Nazi Party once again, and a more slyer version of Hermann Goering acting as the Chancellor of Germany, the Huns have managed to keep the nation relatively intact. They've lost a substantial part of the industrial heart lands, and several large German speaking cities to the Allies. But still they fight on. Control and army intelligence are now telling us the Huns are mobilising a vast number of men from the now quiet Western front to cold Russia, in order to win the war raging on there.
ALEXANDER POKRYSHKIN VS THE IRON FALCON:
Hermann Graf, known outside of Germany as the Iron Falcon is the premier fighter pilot ace of the Luftwaffe. He now sports a terrifying 228 victories to the enemy of his nation. Most of which have been against the Allies. Now however, he, alongside millions of other men, has been diverted to the East front to quell Stalin's thirst for world dominance. There Seem to be quite the talk about him doing so too. The German men need heroes, and even though the German top command knows the danger how having another Manfred von Richthofen, to eventually be placed at the alter of sacrifice. It is out of their hands for the moment. Russian Alexander Pokryshkin has 42 victories (most French and Finnish) Apparently Pokryshkin has been a big help for the Soviet combat doctrine as he has refused to fight in their outdated ways. He was nearly arrested for it too, it seems, until his fame and victories earned him a promotion instead. There's a war being waged in the Black Sea. Thousands of fighter planes have been diverted to claim air superiority there, and soon one will have to back down. Either the Luftwaffe, or the Red Air Force.
THE MEDITERRANEAN CRISIS:
So, the Germans still have some steel in their veins. A mere day after the armistice was in full effect, the main brunt of the bloody Mediterranean Kriegsmarine sets sail. We are talking about 100s of ships. simply setting sail without giving the British or French government ANY prior knowledge. Admiral Boyle of the Mediterranean fleet called up his superiors immediately for advice. The Germans cannot simply set sail into Allied control waters? The whole situation almost destroyed the armistice within 24 hours of signing it. Had it not been for the French fleet in the Mediterranean standing down, allowing them to pass, and by doing so forcing Admiral Boyle to do the same.
It appears the fleet is moving towards Kiel, or the ports surrounding it. We believe the Germans wish to use it in their war against the Soviets. We might even let them pass into the Baltic. What mad, mad, world we live in. plotting with the Germans. It makes me sick to my stomach, old boy! But don't you worry, Churchill has ordered Dudley Pound to keep a close watch in the North Sea. We will destroy the whole rotting German navy in one day if it comes to it.
THE BATTLE OF HELSINKI:
10:00, 27th February, the Russians meet the Finnish army outside of Helsinki. A terrible battle rages that last for 2 days. When it is clear that the Soviets have won and will capture Helsinki, the inventible surrender of the Finnish army is called for. Finnish President Risto Ryti, signs the surrender.
THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FRENCH EXPEDITIONARY AIR FORCE:
During the chaos, Soviet forces, alongside the newly created Soviet friendly, Helsinki Army, seize the FEAF. And they destroy it. 3 French wings. That is 518 Fighter planes, 520 bomber planes. All destroyed, on the ground. Not to mention the French elite pilots captured. All because some bloody fools in the French air force could not open their eyes to the coming catastrophe. General Weygand called it a national disgrace.
As mentioned, the Helsinki Army was created a few days ago alongside the Helsinki State. Which is a Communist client state of the USSR. Assigned to handle the transition from Finnish to Russian. For the Russians intend to keep Finland. And use whatever army they can take from them against us. Which they did a few days ago. The Russians are winning in the North now. And I fear for Norway and Sweden.
In the wake of the German armistice, and now the Finnish surrender, we have diverted the bombing group from Oslo closer to the new Soviet border, and the Canadian fighter wing to the Auchinleck line in the north. There are some very substantial logistical limitations though. It is winter, we are trying to send hundreds of thousands of men to Narvik? with planes and cars, and what have you. Our limitations are quite stretched as it is. And i fear we will have to do with 10 divisions in the north, and a limited air force.
OPERATION SEAWATER FAILS:
Remember the Helsinki army? the bastards ratted us out. 17:00 1 February. General Adrian Carton De Wiart was assigned the hastily order to take Aaland/Ahvenanmaa. In the night they moved to take the islands, but where spotted by the Helsinki Army who then called in reinforcements. General Carton De Wiart knew the invasion was doomed to fail, as speed and the element of surprise were the necessary components for it to succeed. He pulled back and the Canadian motorised division were called in to reinforce Stockholm. Cunningham's Bomber wing had also been called in for Operation Seawater were then told to continue their bombing runs. If the Soviets want that island, they'll have to endure the rain of bombs.
So there you have it. Scandinavia in a very precarious situation. Aaland is hard for the Soviets to use as a push into Sweden, but not impossible. And what about those paratroopers we have been so frightened of? the Germans never managed to refine their potential, but the Reds might! And the Auchinleck line, up there in the frozen mountains, at the end of the world. How many more men can we successfully send up there without them starving, or freezing to death.
Questions, dear friend.
The war rages on.
