Subbed, great AAR and I want to read more.

the war sure seems interesting, unfortunately there cannot be a moscow-berlin axis. IRL they got pretty close it aswell.

imo if you'd mod the game so they could ally up, I'd be in favor!

For England old boy, for england.

Or as Liberty Prime would say: "Communism is a Lie!"

Hehe! for England, chap!
Breaks my heart a little bit. How will Attlee Clement become the Socialist PM that Britain will need after the war in this AAWWII timeline? With the Soviets and all.
Subbed, great AAR and I want to read more.
A fantastic summary for a fantastic AAR.
Thank you, guys! comments like that mean the world! :)

Yes, I do like the paranoia in the AAWWII timeline right now, are the Germans and Russians allied? are they working together? of course we know the truth. That the game mechanics won't allow that anymore.
imo if you'd mod the game so they could ally up, I'd be in favor!
I have given it a thought. But the way things are going might be more interesting. The Russians have had their rude awakening; The Winter war proved that their army was rubbish, and now with the great patriotic war against the British they have started producing like mad men. Hitler is in the middle of all of this. and I would guess the Russians have started building a giant army on the future east-front. and *famous last words* Hitler has missed the bus with operation Barbarossa.
I have a feeling that 1941 may well prove a boon to the Empire's cause. ;)
Yes! I think Stalin will invade Germany early 41. (of course these are all guesses). Here's the problem. He'll crush Hitler, and then we're stuck with a world run by the Soviet threat instead...

Question is, a good ride or a bad ride

Have a seat, soldier. No doubt you've heard the news. The whole war has changed. Just within the short span of a few days. The Germans have played us like a cheap fiddle, and they now we pay the cost.

Let me sit down for a second, give me a light will you, old boy.
Yes.. This is it, the battle of the century. All of our proud British history comprised into a clear moment in time, as we stand at the precipice gazing into the abyss.
The Romans had an expression they used to scare their children with. Hannibal ad portas. Hannibal is at the gates.

THE BATTLE OF THE CHANNEL:
Airbattles.jpg
Let's begin at the beginning. This week started off as Armée de l'air brought the fight to Germany. The large Weserübung invasion force was the focus of bombing. The Luftwaffe rose to the challenge and continued to press the Armée de l'air to its breaking limit. It's now clear to us that this has been an attempt to wither down their forces rather than gaining a real entrance into bombing South England. And it seems to have worked. The French Airforce has been battered these last months, and was in no form to challenge the German air-supremacy when Fall Gelb was initiated.

120 French fighters, and 35 French bombers were shot down this week.

NAVAL WAR:
Chinafleet.jpg
Soviet submarines have sunk 6 large merchant ships in the Indian seas. Therefor the whole China Station fleet has been re-organised into 3 smaller forces to deal with the issue. China Station has been sent out to investigate the area and sink whatever Soviet submarines they might find. The newly created Auxiliary Fleet III was sent to Bombay for reasons I will explain later, and lastly the rest of the British submarines have been sent to Japanese waters to link up with the others there to create "The Royal Navy Pacific Submarine Fleet". A lone transport flotilla Force C has also been sent to Bombay to link up with Auxiliary Fleet III.
Asia.jpg

Some better news here in the North sea. Dudley Pound and Bowhill, yes, the two legends, again took to the battlefield to lead this great nation into victory. Poor Bowhill paid a dear, dear price for it.
At 12:00 4 May. Home Fleet finally spots a large part of the Soviet Submarine fleet no doubt heading for The Leningrad ports. Our plan worked, chap! Our intelligence was right! Dudley Pound engages the fleet as Bowhill scrambles his RAF naval bombers. The jewel of the Great Britain yet again thrown into the fray.
Submarinebattle.jpg
Dudley Pound cripples the fleet.
Bowhill's bombers finish the job.
all 20 submarines sink to the bottom of the sea.
LuftwaffeNaval.jpg
Then, out of nowhere A massive Luftwaffe force move in to help the Soviets out. God damn it, chap! These bloody barbarians have made an unholy alliance! I don't understand why the chiefs of staff cannot see that! 76 bombers are shot down before we manage to break off and head back to Ålesund, Norway.

Just in time for the bad news...

OPERATION FALL GELB:
Fallgelb.jpg
Germany declares war on Belgium, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands as they precede to invade early morning May 5th. The nations in response asks for our immediate assistance, we of course oblige. French forces move in to the lowlands as fast as possible. But we do not. Oh, it was a tough choice, but our leaders are going with Operation Bernard over Operation Dutch Rabbit. Control believes the Germans are hoping we'll move into the Low Countries to help, leaving our fortifications, and that their main attack will come through the impenetrable Ardennes. So here we are, standing firm on the line... Waiting for 1 million German soldiers to crash against our wall of strong and willing British boys. For anyone who fight with us on that line I will personally shake his hand on behalf of the kingdom. British all of them, chap. Fighting the good fight while we sit on our bum and twiddle our thumbs.

Fallgelbmap2.jpg
The last news I have received is that Maastricht, Nijmegen, and Eupen have fallen to the Germans and that Arnheim is in the process of being overrun. The Huns are moving in with incredible speed. 11 000 Belgians and 20 000 Netherlands have been taken captive in these last few days. It looks like this New Schlieffen Plan is working for the Germans. The French have moved in to Luxembourg and are attempting to cut off the Ardennes route. But I suspect that next week the British will have their first engagement with the German soldier since the Great War...

I haven't told you this, for it's not something I feel comfortable to talk about, but I guess it's something you should know. I was there when the Germans marched in over the Somme. Third Army, British Army. I was only 18 years old back then. Such a foolish young boy. We mock them now, chap, for their silly salutes, their flags, and the songs they sing. But let me tell you something; The Boche I know... The German Stormtrooper, he has been training for this moment all his life. He is a combat veteran, an expert with his weapon. Back then he was the pinnacle of soldiers ever put on this earth, and I fear time has done nothing but resolute his beliefs, sharpen his tactics and heighten his ferocious nature.

Next week we will see what our boys are made of.

THE WINTER WAR ENDS:
Winterwar.jpg
Ah... Where to begin? On one hand I am forever in awe of the fighting spirit of the Finnish people. When Poland fell to the Germans we were adamant that the next nation to bear the weight of injustice would be us, or the French, or the united Commonwealth. But that heavy burden fell on the small nation of Finland. and they bore it with honour. Our forces lost on the great North Front. And as we retreated with our tails between our legs, The Finnish people had no other alternative but to try and broker a peace on their own before their nation crumbled under the Soviet heel. The Russians themselves seemed all to happy to oblige. The weak navy of the Soviet union is being crushed. Not to mention that for every centimeter of land they grab, it costs them an outrageous amount of manpower and equipment. They know now that their army is not up to the fight. That they cannot take Finland as easy as they wanted to, and that the Cold Gates will lock them out of Norway. But the Russians are smart....

on 12:00 may 7th The USSR finally signed a separate peace with President Risto Ryti on behalf of Finland.
Effectively stabbing us in the back as they leave our alliance, and our cause, to lick their wounds. For they must know the Russians will attack again some day soon. Perhaps a year from now, perhaps a decade. But they will be back.

The Good news is however:
We now have our buffer zone against Russia. Neutral Finland in the North, and neutral Turkey in the South. And we need them, for they block out 5 million soviets from pouring over our borders. Oh, speaking of pouring over the borders...

ITALY ENTERS THE WAR, CEMENTING THE AXIS ALLIANCE:
Italy.jpg
Oh, dear, chap. more headache. It is clear to us now that the Germans and Soviets have played us.
13:00 may 7th. 1 hour after the Moscow peace with Finland, Mussolini finally and officially declared Italy an ally to Nazi-Germany, and declared the Axis powers at war with the British Empire and the French Republic.
We never thought he would dare such an undertaking before Hitler could show him that they had France on a silver plater. But he did, and somehow synchronised it with the Finnish peace and the Fall Gelb. Which means they must all be in cahoots. What a bunch of clever bastards they are. Soviet Union, Germany, and Italy all moving their pawns at the same time to confuse us. Italian infantry are now pouring in over the unguarded British borders in Africa. Where we can, the local forcers have engaged the Italians.
Iraqi and Egyptian forces in the North are holding for now, but these are boys who would rather fight us than our enemies. I'll be surprised if we haven't lost Africa by new years...

MOBILISATION:
AFRICA
Mobitaly.jpg
In response to the Italian declaration of war, Auxiliary Fleet III -Yes the one previously mentioned-, has departure for Bombay, and all of the forces in India which we can divert has been, to that city. From there they will be shipped off to Africa to prevent the Italians in seizing all our god damn colonies!

FRANCE
Canada.jpg
Also, our Auxiliary fleet I is headed back from Halifax, Canada, carrying 1 mechanised infantry for our reservers on the western-front. They will arrive in Dunkirk on may 19th.

And we have 4 Anti-Aircraft attachments being diverted from Norway, and the Home guard to France. They should arrive on May 11th. With an additional 4 arriving mid-June.

RAF
RAF.jpg
Our bombers in Narvik has been diverted to Dover to partake in the defence of France. But our RAF fighters are still in Oslo awaiting green light for our new operation...

Which brings us to

OPERATION CARPATHIA:
Carpathia.jpg
As the end of the Winter war has released our soldiers from the Cold Gates, Narvik. We have shipped them off on Auxiliary fleet II currently headed for Dunkirk. But.. General Ironside suggests another more bolder strategy:

Germany's Weserübung invasion force is now moving away from Denmark to either participate in Fall Gelb or bolster the Southern border. We could rebase Auxiliary fleet II in Ålesund and send majority of our forces in Norway there. From Ålesund we could mount a 3 division amphibious assault on Ålborg on 25th of may, quickly reinforced by 9 more divisions, tying down the 2 divisions there, and forcing the Weserübung to reinforce. Thus creating a large confusion within the German war machine and hopefully blunt Operation Gelb.

Here are the PROS:
- We will have full naval control. Even if the decimated German Kriegsmarine attempts to attack us, we should be able to crush it without problem.
- We should be able to control the skies. Bombing German troops in Ålborg, and with our 4 RAF wings give the Luftwaffe a good fight.
- We will tie down 10 German divisions in Denmark.

And the CONS:
- The mobilised forces on-route to Ålesund will take a few weeks to organise once there.
- Our amphibious assault is seriously lacking, we can only effectively launch an invasion force with 3 divisions.
- Ålborg does not have ports large enough to supply the invasion force, it would be crucial to push north to Frederikshavn to secure a small supply line before a serious counter-attack is mounted by the Germans.
- This invasion force might be of better use on the west-front.

Next week that decision will be made, and Ålborg might be the center of hope for our civilisation.
The western front in France will hold against the Huns.
And Africa will find itself ready and willing to delay the Italians until reinforcements can arrive.

May God help us all, old boy.
This is it. This is what we've been waiting for.

Yes but you got to remember M8, they based those Stormtroopers of theirs off use since our assault and trench raids put the fear of God back into them. You have us, the Gurkas, Australians and others ready to defend. Don't give up hope old chap.

Oh.

Musso has grown balls!

So unexpected.

And...

A WW2 revision of the Baltic plan.

Let's see...

A wild ride indeed! I'm genuinely exited to see whether or not you manage to hold out in France - best of luck!

Hmmm... the war situation has developed not necessarily to Britain's advantage, while the general trends of the world have all turned against her interest. But, we shouldn't give up hope, for the full might of Britain, France and their colonial subjects shall win the day.

I just hope we don't make the same mistakes and ensure that the German people can't and don't want to start another war after this one!

Italy truly surprised. Probably messed by war with Soviets. Generally, if you do something ahistorical, something ahistorical will happen as well, due to pissed off AI, usually not much wise.

Got all caught up. This will be interesting. Subbed.
Thanks! Glad to hear it! :)
Don't give up hope old chap.
I think the darkest week was with the sinking of the reserve fleet. After the botched Rhineland bombing, it looked like everything we did would just amount in disaster. But we bounced back. We stopped the invasion of Norway, we took charge of the sea, and now we will stop the Huns like we did in the great war!
A wild ride indeed! I'm genuinely exited to see whether or not you manage to hold out in France - best of luck!
Thank you! I have high hopes for operation Bernard.

It was a very wild ride. this is realtime AAR after all. Usually we go a month before a "red box" pops up. Imagine my surprise when the whole screen was flooded.
- Spring offensive! "Okay, we knew this was coming
- Finland breaks alliance! "Ahh, what?? damn it!"
- Italy invades your unprotected borders! *sprays whiskey all over the keyboard*
Oh.

Well it would not be An Alternate World War II without some alternate stuff. I want to push the divergence. Actually it would be kind of cool to use this AAR as a world builder for a novel or a RPG game seeing as it is sooo stacked with details. I imagine a 1945 where Russia has taken control over Europe, or a grand stalemate between the 3 waring powers.

But damn Mussolini, seriously.
Maybe the AI DOWs if there really aren't any allied forces in Africa, maybe it's like you said, the Soviet war is messing things up. But Italy will have a real problem in North Italy if we manage to hold the western-front.
A WW2 revision of the Baltic plan.

Let's see...
It's a bit wonky though, and our amphibious invasion tech is sh**e. I really had no intention in launching any amphibious assault as early as 1940.
Hmmm... the war situation has developed not necessarily to Britain's advantage, while the general trends of the world have all turned against her interest.
Yes, but not all is dark. We have Norway secured, and we have a large army in France for the defence. The more units we use to secure a province, the more France is free to mobilise hers to tie up German forces. I am pretty nervous about the Bernard line though. This is what's so fun about the realtime aspect, I have never been so invested in a DH army.
I just hope we don't make the same mistakes and ensure that the German people can't and don't want to start another war after this one!
If Germany cannot take France, its glory will have been severely weakened. OTL Hitler sealed Germany's unconditional faith in him with that spectacular victory. So if AAWWII France holds, and USSR invades, the German people will put an end to the Nazi-regime before the Russians can reach Berlin. (Although that might not stop them. But that is a realism discussion to have if/when we get to that bridge).

If Western Front will be indeed Great War v2.0, people around Beck and Goerdeler will 'take care' of nazi regime, without still any major atrocities happened, and with anti-nazi purge, peace treaty is possible.

London.jpg
Ah, my good chap! come in, come in. Have a seat. Let me find the dossier. Ah, here it is... The world has changed so much over the last months, and I do believe it is to change plenty more in the next few days. Battles are currently raging all over the world, from the Netherlands to Africa. The war to end all wars proved to be but a prelude to a 1940 engulfed in flames. Churchill and the War cabinet are now orchestrating a collapsing war on multiple fronts, and I must say we are not as prepared as we hoped we would be, not after last week's surprises. But, let us rather talk about what transpired this week.

FAILING TO INITIATE A REVOLT IN DENMARK:
Denmark.jpg
Churchill and the SIS have started to fund the resistance in Denmark. Unfortunately this week we failed as the revolt did not materialise. Gestapo discovered what was about to transpire and issued a full crackdown on the safe houses in the bigger cites. Unfortunate, but it will not quell our resolve. We will keep funding them, and perhaps look to other factions elsewhere, within the enemy nations.

ITALIAN EAST AFRICA MILITIAS POURING IN OVER UNPROTECTED BORDERS:

ItalianEast.jpg
Like the Italian East Africa, which so far has meet no resistance in their invasion of Middle-Africa. We pulled out most of our boys there for Operation Bernard, and now there's nothing left to prevent the Italians from claiming vast, vast areas of land. Hopefully in a short amount of time the British Raj divisions will be shipped down to Alexandria to deal with the problem. There are bigger fish to fry though, as even North-Africa is in severe trouble and frankly there aren't enough soldiers on route to battle the Italian army.

THE BATTLE OF SIDI BARRANI:
Northafrica.jpg
Egyptian and Iraqi infantry are now engaged in a bloody battle to slow down the invading army in the North. But they are loosing, chap. And as I said last week; these boys might as well put down their rifles and join the bloody Italians. We've had problems with the Middle-East going back as far as the Crusades, and Jerusalem is close to erupt in a revolution. We will be lucky if Africa still stands come new-years.

FRANCE ATTACKS NORTH ITALY:
Northitaly.jpg
The French army has however managed to find a point of pressure to apply on the Italians. It is in the Alpes-Provence. Several large division are now crossing the mountains at perilous heights, fighting a brutal battle against the smaller Italian army there. It would be a crucial victory if they were to gain some momentum in North Italy. No doubt Mussolini would have to pull out forces from Africa in order to combat it. The French knows the score, and they are fighting tooth and nail for it.

ITALY DESTROYING THE FRENCH MEDITERRANEAN FLEET:
NavyItaly.jpg
Oh dear, more bad news. The French army and airforce might be pushing forwards against the Italians, but their navy is on the ropes. The enemy have kept himself rather busy wrecking French presence in the Mediterranean. Listen to this report:
- CL: French light cruiser Marseillaise sunk on May 9th.
- DD: 5 French destroyers (14ème Flottille de Contre-Torpilleurs) sunk on May 9th.
- CA: French heavy cruiser Duquesne sunk on May 10th.
- CA: French heavy cruiser Tourville sunk on May 10th.
- DD: 5 French destroyers (5ème Flottille de Contre-Torpilleurs) sunk on May 10th.

Bloody hell, chap! We are slowly crumbling on all sides. Our own Royal Navy has yet to be attacked in the Mediterranean sea, but I figure it is only a question of time, we need to bolster up our naval defence in that area as soon as possible.

BLOCKADE OF THE ITALIAN MERCHANT NAVY:
Italyblockade.jpg
The Royal Navy in the North sea has not been slacking about. This week we gave their merchant fleet a proper licking. If we keep this up the Italians will soon feel the bitter sting of attrition. Note however that all of these attacks have been outside of the Mediterranean sea.

PRODUCTION:
Production.jpg
In order to combat our own convoy problems, we have decided to ramp up our production of escorts. We could also re-outfit some of our older models of transport ships, but as of now it looks as we will need of all of them for Operation Bernard. Also, the factories are producing a splendid amount of Anti-Air equipment for our divisions in France, they should be ready to go by the time the Luftwaffe comes knocking on our door. ETA. Mid-June.
The new RAF interceptor wings should be coming off the lines next month too. This will leave us with a strong 8 fighter wings. A combined force that should be able to handle your average Luftwaffe attack. Also, the HMS Illustrious will be ready to set sail next week. Who would have thought the Royal Navy would find herself in need of more ships? But we are, Churchill and Dudley Pound are looking into re-assigning ships in order to create a command force capable of fighting off the Italian Navy.

PORTUGAL JOINS THE ALLIES:
Portugal.jpg
Oh, dear. More headache for the British Empire. We were hoping Portugal would remain neutral in this conflict. Nothing good will come of Spain's likely entrance in response. But Portugal is our oldest ally, and they have felt the increase tension of war, nations plotting against her. I'm not 100% sure what happened behind the scenes. But I believe there was some sort of ultimatum delivered to Churchill in order to secure Portugal defensively. And here we are, more land to defend, less soldiers to do so with. Sod it to Hades, old boy. Just one thing after the other.

CHURCHILL OFFERS WILHELM II ASYLUM:
Wilhelm.jpg
Ah, on a side note. Churchill offered The former Kaiser of Germany; Wilhelm II asylum here in London in response to the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands - Where he is currently receding. Churchill went as far as to even send a RAF plane over the Channel to retrieve him. But the old bugger rejected it. I must say I do admire his tenacity. He has decided to stand with the Dutch and take his chances with Hitler, who is probably not too keen for any royal competition. I would have loved the look on his face as he fled into Churchill's open arms. Here at the last bastion of hope.

THE DISASTER AT GRONINGEN:
Westfront.jpg
Speaking of which. The German army a few days ago split the Dutch nation in two by moving in to Nijmegen, successfully encircling Rotterdam, Amsterdam. Taking Arnheim, Groningen, and capturing a large French force there. 30 000 people. The German army is now in the process of strengthening their flanks, destroying the pockets, while also moving in over Belgium and Luxembourg.

THE BATTLE OF EINDHOVEN:
Eindhoven.jpg
But all is not lost. The French and Dutch at Eindhoven fought back early today.
delaying the advancing German forces from Nijmegen. The Huns are flanking the province however, attempting to pinch the army down, whiles moving across Belgium. This German machine does not fight where it cannot win, it flows down like water, encircling, tying down, strangling, drowning. Damn the Boche.

HUNGARY JOINS THE AXIS:
Hungary.jpg
Yes, it appears that all the wolves are coming out to play now. Hungary this week declared its alliance with Germany and thus at war with the Allies. This war is spiralling out of control. Hungary, a nation land-locked with the Axis, should be able to mobilise 6 divisions to the Western-front within 3 week, not to mention the large amount of resources they will be able to transport to Germany by train, thus bypassing our rather ineffective naval blockade. Seems that Germany has learned a trick or two after the Great War.

THE BATTLE OF LUXEMBOURG:
Luxembourg.jpg
Luxembourg..... Where the hammer has fallen...
The Allies have currently 19 divisions there as of right now.
Lord Gort has decided not to send in British reinforcements. Another tough choice, old boy. The Lowlands will fall, it is only a matter of time. But the French are softening up the German hammer. And it is vital, crucial, that when those German forces finally manage to break through the tenacious and gritty French defence. Then they will find themselves breaking against the shields of the greatest British army the world has ever seen. One well rested, well trained, and well motivated to halt the advancing enemy dead in his tracks. Also, with every division we can assign to a French province we free up the French army to mobilise more of their own boys up the line to secure the battlefield how they see fit.

NORE COMMAND. FROM THE BARENTS SEA TO JUTLAND:
Nore.jpg
With the successful war against the Soviet Navy we have re-deployed Nore Command to help out in the North sea. The Royal Navy Submarine Fleet is still guarding entrances to the ports up in the Barents Sea. But next week we should probably examine a possible re-assigning of a major fleet from Jutland and down to the Mediterranean sea.

OPERATION CARPATHIA CALLED OFF:
Carpathia.jpg
Ah, our great gamble was not to be. The Chiefs of staff have crunched all the numbers, and General Ironside says it simply does not add up. Ålborg, Denmark is too well defended, and we would not be able to establish a strong enough supply line. Next week we will start mobilising the Ålesund, Norway force and ferry it to Dunkirk. Once there we will send a smaller force to Toulon, France, and then to Alexandria, North-Africa.

And that is it for this week.
In the next weeks the German army will at long last meet the British boys on the battlefield. One second, chap. Let me fetch a book.

Yes, you have time to wait, you're young.

Let's see, ah, here it is. Perhaps not a perfect fit, seeing as we fought the French on Saint Crispin's day. But I think we can allow ourselves some Shakespeare on this dreadful day.

"From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

So let us think ourselves accursed, old chap. And wish our boys the best of luck.
Until next time.
England Expects.

The French had to race to the Benelux, hadn't they?

There you have 30,000 men wasted as in the days of the Great War. it seems that the French didn't learn at all the lesson taken at Alsace in 1914.

It doesn't look so grim. Because of usual Italy's military capabilities, Germans will be forced to split their forces to save them.
After all, you can lost whole Africa and survive, while Italy without Italy hardly can xD
And if USSR will attack them, you don't have to care about western front anymore.

I hope you're also gonna evacuate the royals of the Low Countries. IRL the belgian and luxemburgian didn't got out

Belgian King remained there on his free will. He ordered army to surrender, and faced the consequences in person.
unfortunately to him, his government took both things as betrayal.
