Seconded.

This is a great AAR. As you I would've captured the coastline of Germany first, then Berlin, and all the armies would've been left without supply as there would be no access to sea and their capital taken.

You have explained the battles in great detail, I like to read all the stuff about IC going up and down and so on. Keep on going and destroy the evil bolsheviks!

So I finally read all the new posts - still one of the very best AARs on this forum. The grey threat has been defeated, but the red one is gaining momentum.

Your analysis of the most "cost-effective" mobile corps is very uselful. Don't you plan to launch a War Academy for HoI2? ;)

Hey Rob -

Thanks for such a great AAR. Obviously you spend a bunch of time on it.

One question about your "allies." I recently started a Poland game, and it's now winter 39/40. I annexed Slovakia, but am otherwise stalemated along the Oder. Obviously I didn't expect any land support, but when I play Germany I usually see a British plane or two over Warsaw. And the big pain was that even with UK & France at +200, I got really mediocre trades and (the real bummer) no free techs. I had to buy every single tech off them, even Great War Carrier kind of techs.

Canada gets all kind of techs for free from the allies, and so does Hungary (as an Axis partner, at least) when I play these countries. Any ideas?

May 3, 1940 - 1:00 - Defying the British:

britain really believes after their complete inaction during the campaign against Germany that they can dictate terms to Poland? It's time to show Britain who the stronger alliance member really is and Denmark is going to need to learn a lesson in proper respect.

April 30 - May 3, 1940 - 1:00 - Short on Manpower:

After the construction of the last militia unit, I experience a slight delay in production when my manpower runs close to depletion. By reallocating IC away from reinforcement ttemporarily, I manage to preserve enough manpower to avoid disruption of the gearing for the Militia series.

May 3, 1940 - 1:00 - Defying the British:

In an angry response to Britain's mandate to remove Polish forces from the Danish border, I decide to not only violate the mandate, but to actually conduct a full fledged invasion of Denmark and end the threat of an interruption of my trade routes the Øresund. I'll need to prepare for consequences from my allies.

May 5, 1940 - 1:00 - Poland Goes Too Far:

Upon arrival of my infantry armies in both Kiel and Rostock, an immediate and swift British reaction comes in the form of an ultimatum. I am forced to choose between losing my status as a member of the western alliance (which has gained Poland what exactly?) or losing Polan's honor and back away from the Danish border. I have no choice...honor is everything.

May 5, 1940 - 1:00 - Cavalry Upgrade:

The upgrade campaign for my cavalry units continues smoothly. Soon I'll have completed upgrade of all cavalry units and I can re-allocated IC back into the production of surplus supplies.

May 7, 1940 - 1:00 - Invasion of Denmark:

To rid myself forever of the threats to my shipping lanes and perhaps more importantly to send a clear message to the world the Poland cannot be pushed around, I declare war on Denmark in the early hours of May 7. I don't expect much resistance and in fact will go into Denmark with overwhelming superiority in the hopes of ending hostilities as quickly as possible.

May 7, 1940 - 1:00-7:00 - The Battle of Copenhagen:

I divide my infantry into 2 large Army Groups led separately by:

Field Marshal Smigly-Rydz and POLSKA1 to head up the Danish peninsula
Field Marshal Szylling (engineer trait) and POLSKA2 to directly attack Copenhagen

I plan to trap whatever remaining Danish armies exist after the attack on Copenhagen in Odense where I'll mercilessly bomb them into submission with my new airforce.

May 7, 1940 - 9:00-17:00 - First Blood for the Air Force:

I have defeated the Danish garrison in Copenhagen, however the Danish air force launches a retaliatory air strike on Münster. I only have one interceptor unit, but I'm hoping to at least blunt the Danish attack and gain some combat experience for my new pilots. The Danes, though, have their Tacitical Bombers protected with escort fighters and severely outnumber my interecptors and Polands gets pretty badly mauled in its first ever aerial combat.

May 8-9 1940 - Trapped:

POLSKA1 moves quickly up the Danish peninsula and attack the lone retreating Danish division forcing it back towards Copenhagen. All that needs to happen is for my fast moving HQ unit to reach Copenhagen before the Danes and the trap will be complete.

anim74.gif

May 9-10 1940 - Second Blood for the Air Force:

With the remainder of the Danish army in full retreat, I call upon my new Tactical Bombers to harrass the enemy and assist my efforts to beat them into Copenhagen. My goal will be to give Mj. General Heller and the Tac Bomber unit he commands) as much experience as is possible before the end of hostilities.

anim75.gif

May 10, 1940 - The Capture of Copenhagen:

While Heller continues to harrass the retreating Danes from the sky, POLSKA2 Field Marshal Szylling arrives in Copenhagen effectively sealing the fate of Denmark. It won't be long now.

May 11, 1940 - Driving towards Aalborg:

With Copenhagen secure, the only remaining obstacle to Danish annexation is Aalborg towards which I send a single infantry korps. I'll continue to use the time to give my Tactical Bombers combat experience.

anim77.gif

May 12 -14, 1940 - The Capture of Aalborg:

With the final surrender of the Danish Army in Odense, and while I still await my armies arrival in Aalborg, I'll attmpt a naval strike against Danish Transports anchored in the port of Aalborg. If I'm lucky and I can knock their org down far enough, I may even be able to capture a few. Unfortunately, however, I fail in the attempt yet again.

May 1940 - Trade Update:

A major consequence of the war with Denmark is a dramatic slowdown in trade activity including the cancellation of some of the existing trade agreements. I'm hoping to make this only a temporary setback and by securing my trade lanes, get the trade engine back up and running at full capacity. It will take some diplomatic finesse however.

May 1940 - Diplomatic Update:

My concerted diplmatic effort prior to the invasion of Denmark helps to soften the impact of negative world reaction. The worst casualty of the Denmark incident are my relations with the UK, but even after only a short period, they're already offering a trade agreement to me. I feel confident that I can restore calm in fairly short order.

050440_diplo.jpg

May 1940 - Intelligence Update:

Very little intelligence activity takes place during the Danish campaign while my attention is focused on concluding combat quickly and efficiently. I do suffer a small setback though one one of my operatives is killed while attempting to conduct a counter intelligence operation.

May 14, 1940 - 3:00 - Annexation of Denmark:

With Denmark defeated, Danish king Christian X is left with no other alternative than to surrender to Poland and accept annexation. It's ironic that their fear and paranoia created the very result they were trying to avoid. As a nice benefit, I gain a significant amount of money which will prove useful in the coming months as I continue my diplomatic surge.

May 15, 1940 - 0:00 - Iceland and Greenland:

One last benefit is realized in the wake of the Danish campaign. Both Iceland and Greenland are now in my possession and may prove to be valuable strategic locations in the distant future.

Huzzah ! Overseas territories ! And a very aggressive war with Denmark !

Churchill giving you the finger has now become an instant comedy classic haha .

I say try to influence the Yugos. They have a non too shabby Army, and they can provide technical assistance for MRFs.

Thus Hamlet goes packing...

I was going to ask: why to annex instead of a puppet? Then I saw the new naval bases at Iceland and Groenland and thought "WTF" (Shaka dixit).:D

What a big monster you've created in MittelEurope, my gosh.

Great update! I especially like the pic of Churchill in the Poland goes too far event

Who will be in your new anti-Bolshevik alliance?

I'd suggest: Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Hungary. All relatively similar governments all dislike the Soviets

Thats how to shove it in Britain's face. They'll be scared once you have a reasonably potent navy now that you have excellent naval bases out north of Britain and across the Atlantic! Just need that navy now...
