Old ships are alwaysed used by Strangian regimes as Museums, as are old captured Yugoslvain destroyers.

If the Sovietsky Soyuz service tests had anything to do with it, will probably never be known. But the truth of the matter is that only 2 months after the World has given a glimpse of her, Germany had made a decision. It would not be fighting the USSR.

Only a couple of days later, Germany dares England and France's guarantee of Polish independence, effectively declaring war on those three and the rest of their allies.

For the People's Navy, this meant three things. First, more time to prepare against any possible foe. Second, a chance to see one of it's most likely adversaries - the Royal Navy - in action. And third, with any luck, weakened British and French navies, assuming the Kriegsmarine even managed to put up a fight.

Submarines from the Baltic Command are sent to spy gather information about the German Baltic capacities, and they quickly learn the new U-boats are not what they used to be in the Great War, as they are quickly defeated by old Polish destroyers.

Naturally this wasn't enough to save Poland, and in less then a month, it fell.

Fortunately for them, the Soviet Union had moved in to protect Eastern Poland.

Not that the Workers' and Peasants' Red Fleet had been idle for this month, only watching. Not at all. Only days after peace was guaranteed and Germany declared it's own doom at the hands of the capitalists, improved tools and weapons for the Naval Infantry concept were presented, and immediately three Divisions started being trained, from a mix of sailors and soldiers, veterans and fresh recruits.

In the following months, further progress would be made, both in advanced new equipment to protect our main harbours and in the field of strategy and tactics, which were quickly spread to Admirals, Captains and sailors.

In November, the Murmansk Shipyards - specialised in Arctic conditions - proudly deliver for commission their first military creation in years: The light cruiser Murmansk.

And not a moment too soon it was!

Huzaah War. Let the 1000 obsolete ships of the Soviet navy descend upon you!

i was going to say - i usually name my soviet ships after the shipyards or cities or something. stops me having to try to translate 'invincible' into russian

ok, thanks.

Deus, am I correct in assuming you just volunteered to help when I need them translations? :p

This looks good.
How much Infantry do you have?
Also, are you already techrushing Naval Techs?

Actually he provided you with link to English-Russian translator, if you translate short sentences/single words it will do ok, it tend to mess up longer sentences though. Also good update, it must be comfortable to know that Germany not only will not fight you, but will also struggle for surviving in long-drawn war in France and low countries trying to breach France that, although is not what it used to be, but still have considerable power and have well fortified border. It surely wont be 40 roll with tanks over their country. No sir ! Seeing how badly submarines performed in recent skirmishes I bet Stalin will not want to expand submarine fleet ?

Destroy the Finnish Navy!!

The first engagements of the Red Fleet in years...

Yeah, the Finnish navy should be quite easy to beat. But beware the Swedish navy! :D

Good update. Just a question though, are you going to leave the carriers with the battleships? I have found that keeping them together makes the battleships useless because the carriers open the range too far for battleships to engage. Anyway good work so far and may the USSR's enemys make new coal reefs for displaced fish.:)

He used light Carriers, or CVEs, something introduced by DD. Far from making them useless these make BB stacks into the perfect CV killers.

The Finnish Navy won't stand a chance against the Baltic Fleet. But it will offer nice way to gain experience to sailors.

If you want ship names, just ask and u'll receive all my knowledge)))

Battleships are usually named after Soviet Republicks, so u have at least 15 names for them (Sovetskaya Turkmenia, Sovetskaya Kirgiziya, Sovetskiy Kazakhstan, for example). And after seizing Baltic States, u can add Sovestkaya Latviya, Sovetskaya Litva, Sovetskaya Estoniya...

Light cruisers are usually named after large cities, so just look at map of the Soviet Union)))

Heavy cruisers usually named after politicians, military leaders, etc.

Destroyers are usually named as Smeliy (Brave), Umniy (Clever), Blestyaschy (Brilliant), Stremitelniy (Speedy) and such...

Tanesis - one can get in very nasty situations for wondering what's on Stalin's mind, but just between you and me, I think he's just going for another Soviet Republic.

ColossusCrusher - I don't remember how much infantry the USSR had by this point, but it's no Italy, worry not. Not tech rushing either. Well, not more then the usual 1 year at least. Tech teams wouldn't allow for very efficient rushing before that.

Edzako - Our submarine fleet is deemed large enough at the moment, and that's the only reason it's not growing. Sucky German subs don't mean our Glorious Union's are any less then Triumphs of the People's Engineering :D

Avatar018 - As explained, these are CVLs, a new unit in DD. They work as regular warships, you can't put CAGs on in, and they have a fire range of ~35 with very little Sea Attack and decent Air Defence. They also have very good detection values, to find small enemy fleets, and a near-exploit capacity to make your fleet close in-range of any other fleet during combat.

roadcop - Thanks! I have a couple more ideas for names as well, but I'll ask those in PM and only when I'm back at playing. So far I've been using Paradox's name-list, but it's starting to suck really, so I might go and later change some names retroactively if my readAARs don't mind.

Everyone else - many thanks, and I'll try to post the Winter War today.

Greetings Commissar! No I have never questioned....Go with the NKVD? Where to? Nooooooooo
