Coming soon to PC & Console - Cities: Skylines newest expansion, Plazas & Promenades introduces Pedestrian Zones, Specialized Districts & Service Buildings. Say hello to pedestrian streets, car-free areas, and modern plazas and let your citizens walk freely on pedestrian-only streets while you build brand new city-service buildings and 3 new special districts.

This is the concept that was really missing from the vanilla game at this point, aside from mixed zoning. Looking forward to what the features will actually look like, and of course the release date!

Sounds and looks very promising. Looking forward to more details.

From the trailer and teasers so far the pedestrian and service vehicle only streets look very good. I'm sure I saw a bus only road in there as well. The 3 new districts and new city service buildings sound very interesting.

A little disappointed to see no release date mentioned though :(

Definitely looks promising - breaking away from the 4x4 buildings next to roads was probably my number one want.

There's also a CCP coming out listed on steam - quite a lot of content released lately given how long gaps between past DLCs were....

oh. and another

Nearly decided. I'm buying all the main expansion pack and both CCPs. The radio stations I'd have to listen to first to find out if I want to buy it. But the rest sounds absolutely thrilling!

Interesting...

Now when you say 'pedestrian zones', you don't mean yet another Parklife style area brush do you?
I can't imagine that this way but they said in the description 3 new specialised districts... or special districts. Probably districts area blocking passing through traffic but allowing services in. Something like in the mod traffic manager but on a district scale.

Huh this may actually make me want to buy cities skylines. Would be fun to try and re-create my city.

Question: Will this introduce mixed use zoning?

It's hard to imagine plazas or promenades (or cities) without them. You know, commercial on the ground floor and housing on the floors above? Kind of strange how Cities Skylines doesn't have this since as far as I'm aware its a staple of most cities.

Mixed zoning won't be a thing in this title because they'd probably have to rewrite a large chunk of the game.

Probably not.

Mixed zone buildings have been requested since the beginning and it's probably a 'Wait for the sequel' thing at this point.

Just had a look at the CCPs too. Not my thing but OK. I'd have loved a Brutalism one myself, but hey, it's not Utopian happy clappy sunshine and farts so not gonna happen I guess.

OMG it is happening, everyone just stay calm. YAY
It is good to see that carfree propaganda reached video games. Great idea, and i even suggested it some time ago. Cant wait for new walkthough.

Mixed zoning: You can mix Residencial LCommercial and Offices.
You can also use small paches of industry with ground polution control.
There is also green commercial.
So there are the ways.

But something more is always good.

Just looking at the Steam page, dedicated busking zones sounds fun. And looks like the zones are a new resi, commercial and office district options rather than another 'walky zone' brush. Although I hope you don't necessarily need to lay out a separate zone for them.

That's not the point of the term "mix use" ;)
We all know game allows what you have just described, but it's far from reality. It's about having a single building of a mixed use - shops, offices and residential area in one, fishing port with a residential house (fishermen rarely go far to their workplace), bakeries, shops and again residential house in one (or manufactories, smiths in residential houses as back in the old days).
Mods can help with but again - that's not the point here - especially the plenty of users can't use mods.
And that's what they are probably still working on when they announced last year a big thing coming (unless it was that Stadia one which i ... well... hmmm ;) ).

A new policy: Street Music: increases happiness and noise pollution in pedestrian commercial zones.

Whaaaaat???!!! :D:D

I already want to ban street music - never ever let anyone rubbishing the quietness and peacefulness of the main street with some yelling and screeching ... "artists" :)
Worse still - letting them playing a tape while they only mouth the words (and then you can hear crowds cheering - also recorded).
Nope :) I hope there will be a ban, because it actually decreases happiness :)
