Wardens,

We hope that you are enjoying the new DLC Second Chances and "The Pen" free update!

To keep track of all bugs and issues you are reporting, we have created this thread.

Remember to include if you are using mods (and if you do, try to disable them - as sometimes they cause issues) and how to reproduce the bug you are experiencing. Being able to recreate a bug is the first step in understanding what is wrong and how it could be fixed! :)

In the coming days, we will have some updates fixing the known Issues and also some other fixes and improvements.

Known Issues:
  • Prisoners drop ingredients when their shift at the Restaurant ends.
  • Active programs might end when saving and loading the game.
  • It's currently possible to change prisoners with different security levels to wear the same colour using map settings in Extras.
  • NPCs walk under the Grass Road Bridge.
  • Prisoners' heads are separated from their bodies when they sit facing North.
  • Bureaucracy isn't researched in the order it's queued.
  • Single log crowding storage.
  • Overlaps and Overflows for some languages.
  • Technical text is displayed in the prisoner biography after passed of any new program.
  • Some reoffending prisoners Bio, shows a different prisoner.
  • Reform Program Research requires 10 prisoners to pass Reformed Prisoner Consultation instead of 1.
  • Issues with security levels.

Since the new update it sometimes happens that at set moments (29, 39, 49 etc so every 10 ingame minutes) CPU usage for one thread will spike to 100% causing a temporary freeze.

I am running the game on Linux via Proton (as the native version seems borked anyway), and up until now I hadn't encountered this. I checked and have not installed any other updates (ie to wine or mesa drivers) around the same time. So this issue does seem to be caused by the new game update. For reference my prison has about 700 people (mix of staff and prisoners).
Hello friends!

I just created an account here to report this exact problem and have never experienced this before the latest update. Game freezes for about 2 seconds every in-game 10 minutes at exactly 08:00, 08:10, 08:20 etc. This occurs inbetween about 8AM and 8PM in-game and starts happening when I pass ~80 inmates. Increasing inmate amount increases freeze time but not freeze frequency.

The freezes occur at every in-game ten minute interval regardless of what play speed I use. Also the freezes are not caused by auto-save despite the game also freezing for a comparably shorter time when it auto-saves.

That being said I can now run much bigger prisons smoothly, inbetween freezes and at night, which were previously laggy for me.

I've never reported any bugs before because I haven't been bothered much by them but this particular bug makes the game unplayable I'm afraid. Best of luck fixing it. I will gladly supply a save file if needed. :)

My specs
OS: Win 10
CPU: Intel Core i5-6200U
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520
RAM: 8 GB

Mods: none
Mutators: no pausing
DLC:s: all of them installed

Prisoners not escorted into solitary so they are just stuck inside in their sells forever.

The building materials off the map stuff has made it impossible to complete these foundations. It's springing up more and more as I'm playing and it's unmanageable. It's happening with floor tiles placed by foundations, floor tiles built outside as paths, floor tiles placed by fence walls.

Also placing a foundation deletes all the tiles under it before it's even been built or visited by workmen, which means it's deleting grass so if you place it wrong you have to buy new grass.... and it means if you try to get around this bug by deleting the foundation and placing smaller sections it removes whole sections of floor and forces you to rebuild them even though they already existed there. Buying the adjacent land doesn't help either, the missing materials will always show as off the map. I used to be able to get around this by forcing the game to buy extra materials but it doesn't always work. Deleting and re-placing the missing tiles only works occasionally.

You can replicate this yourselves, just load a large map, set those big fence walls around the outside, and then build a foundation 2 or 3 blocks inside that. It happens with and without mods. Every map is affected differently: as in sometimes you can get around it but other times you're weeks into playing and it's still not happening.

Also please notice how long it takes workmen to build a foundation of that size. They stand around forever waiting to build because a couple of blocks aren't placed, they should be building what ever they can....having 400 of them standing around waiting for a couple of floor pieces to be done so they can put the orange metal pieces down makes everything take so much longer. They waste a lot of time when you clone dorms and things waiting for everything to be done before placing furniture and stuff too....sometimes I have to set it to priority to even get them to place the furniture because they're all just sitting around. I don't know if this is forcing them to place anything they can or not but it doesn't help with foundations.

UPDATE: since the update some interesting things are happening. In my first attempt to see if this bug was fixed, upon re-placing the foundation the workmen beelined over there with materials. The materials ARE on the map!! They WON'T fix ANYTHING unless it's set to priority and they only fixed a couple, there's piles of materials here and they have no interest in fixing more so I still have to delete and replace about 4 more times to get it anywhere. I complained about this earlier with quickbuild, they just sit there ignoring it until I set it to priority then they put the furniture in (not every time but a lot).

The Job list says they have no route but they absolutely do, they're in the middle of nothing. Also the job list is deleting itself. Not joking I set a few to priority on load and the whole list vanished. I sat here for about a minute with nothing happening, then decided to draw a storage room in the built foundation, suddenly there's a huge job list of 16 construct floors, and move items to storage but there's something very interesting happening.....before the workmen are reaching the items they're freezing, then going right back to deliveries. Some are even dropping the items. Could the problem be that they are cancelling out of jobs? It doesn't happen as obviously on speed 1 but on speed 3 it's very obvious, on either speed they are completely unable to reach several items because they stop moving towards them about half way - you can replicate this yourself in my save. I think it's also a mix of the swarming behaviour, which has been happening since the game was created and desperately needs to be fixed! You need a reserve on items so 1 person can go collect the specific item and not 30. Hope that helps fix this bug.

UPDATE 2: The update has made this far worse, I can't build a single foundation....even small ones....on any prison :(.

I am once again reporting this bug. These guys are sentenced to lockdown but they get let out of their cells during free time. I don't have any mods or anything like that.

Prisoners wandering around when they're technically on lockdown can't satisfy their needs. Also it puts protective custody inmates at risk while I still can't build them their own wing. And it seems to be preventing me from getting informants.

Steps to replicate:
1. Have prisoner on lockdown
2. Watch them leave lockdown. They seem to only do it during free time.

Not really sure this is the right place, but I'm unable to find a GOG download for the first The Pen update. The patch for 5590 to 6327 is missing. I see only patches to upgrade from one version to another within the same major update, not for upgrading from one major to another major update.

This raises two questions for me. Is this missing patch still coming or was it never intended to be released (in other words, is a patch only ever intended to upgrade from within the same major update)? And secondly, do patches include the content of previous patches or are they strictly from one version to one other (in other words, do I need all sequential patches to get to the newest version, for which I'm then missing one)?

Edit:
GOG told me they didn't/couldn't provide the missing patch due to the amount of changes to the game, but that the base version installer could also be used to update the game to a pre-patched state. Having done that, this problem has been resolved for me.

Do you have missing sprites also? If GOG is missing an update that would sure explain why I have sprite issues and no one else seems to. This is a new install too because I reformatted so I'm 100% sure it's nothing I've done.

More broken stuff. Meeting room filled with dogs, despite animal therapy nowhere close to its starting time. I also see a min sec and a med sec prisoner sharing a classroom, even though its Free Time for min sec. Still haven't been able to schedule a single Three Strikes Training program cause it keeps telling me "No Teacher" despite numerous psychologists and office rooms available. Any chance that the broken stuff that is supposedly a core part of this DLC will at least even be acknowledged, let alone fixed? Or is work already focused on creating the next batch of broken DLC?

I have had these missing sprites on steam since Going Green was released.

In the objects_d11_2 sprite sheet, it seems to somehow get the drink, kicker, and boozebag sprites mixed up with some parts of one of the helicopters, when giving the "alert" icon to indicate that contraband has been found. No idea why it happens.

No, like Yumakooma said that's not related. I'm still on The Glasshouse, which is what I was trying to say. Because the patch is missing, I can't update. Not through that way anyway.

[PS4]

Not sure if this has been reported specifically in relation to console, but prisoners in lockdown/solitary will leave solitary or their cells and walk around the prison while cuffed. It also seems that when the hour changes, this changes their direction of movement, so sometimes they do start walking back to their cell or solitary, but then they will leave and continue to walk around the prison randomly.

Apologies if this issue is already known about after the most recent bug fix that was pushed out on consoles

I'm glad I had to scroll my way down here and I saw this edit but I don't get it what's the base version installer? Will verify work?

@Fifnaril sorry to tag but this is now becoming very widespread and I was hoping my discoveries could help knock the bug out faster :)
Also the bug about the clone tool saying blocked all the time (I assume over sinkmirrors, paintings, and bulldozed foundations) has been getting noticed over on reddit too....I reported that since the original update, it definitely broke clone tool in that update because I live off the clone tool so it was super noticeable.

I've seen a few posts about it today....

I'm experiencing a weird issue (it started before patch 2, forget if it was before the first hotfix) where janitors are stuck cleaning an area forever. They also can't be manually moved once they enter this state.

The same area also has an issue with dogs getting stuck. I'll update this post once I get a video of it :)

EDIT: Attatched my prison file and debug in case it helps

Staff meals are really pilling up in my deliveries area. When I dump them the game just automatically orders new ones.

Not sure how to replicate. Just have a staff room with a serving table in it.

Escape Mode REP Point system is broken.
I reported this same bug a few updates ago but it seems to be a reoccurring bug.

In the short, term what happens is REP points are not given for breaking things or killing other people.
Also, staff show no signs of them wanting to come for you, also like the last time you don't have any indication that you ever wanted.

This was on an island map, not sure if this makes any difference. Also some times prisoners just spawn in cells when starting a new game if it's not close to the intake time.

The photo below is from after killing two staff members no signs of a star were given I even punched a guard and he ran away, only for another one to randomly walk up and throw handcuffs on me. They did not even bother to use the taser. I mean these are the most chill guards I have ever seen. . . in escape mode.

Can The devs really work on adding more features to Escape mode and work on fixing the bugs with them.
Because it's being neglected with all the DLC and new features it would be nice for some of those DLC to also have support for Escape mode. I mean I would not mind waiting a bit longer to get DLCs if it had some extra features for Warden and Escape mode.

Anyhow

My PC Hardware is below.
- OS: Windows 10 64bit
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060
- CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz, 4201MHz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors.
- RAM: 64.0 GB
- HDD: 4.0 TB

UPDATE:
I attached the save below too. I just noticed the message above mine for the saves and I think it will be of more use it's an escape mode save.

Rep points have a common issue with the cleared for transfer features (not sure why). Try making a new version of your prison with transfers disabled (go to map settings and untick the box) and see if it works :)
