HOI4 Dev Diary - The Baltic States 2/2

I believe there's already a 'invade the baltics' focus for the soviet tree- perhaps a minor rework to it where it also unlocks decisions to annex baltic nations that are already puppets. Maybe though for balance if you use decisions to annex the Baltics, the armies are disbanded (which to my knowledge is what happened in real life) of the Batlic nations to help provide balance.
The way it works now, is that if any of the Baltics (or Finland) go red, they vote to join the USSR, either by puppet or by annexation, which the USSR can either approve of or reject. Other than that, a decision to surrender pops up as they're justifying a wargoal.

Well, the baltics states changes will make it more fun to play in the region, however I still hope that we will have a nice surprise of having a reworked Soviet Union.

No. It only was around Yalta conference and the result was that Ukrainian and Belarus SSRs would be getting foreign affairs and co-founding UN, getting a seat there since it was founded.

Initially Stalin wanted all SSRs to get it. But only Ukraine and Belarus were agreed upon getting it, for a bunch of complex reasons, including their tremendous war effort and devastation in WW2.
The Soviets tried to get the SSRs votes for much longer than just around Yalta. For example, see these minutes of the 1948 European Broadcasting Conference. On p.90 of the PDF (internal number RD-117E/15) you will see the Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania SSRs applying to join the conference. The twenty or so pages before and after record some of the related rants and vote-rigging attempts by the Communist bloc delegates. Yes, they point to the devastation of the SSRs during the war, but that is not a reason for recognizing anywhere as a sovereign state. The real reason was to ensure that the Soviet bloc would be able to outvote the majority held by free European countries.

So it's not particularly unrealistic for Barbarossa to represent the Baltic states as Soviet puppets in-game. If history had played out somewhat differently, they might have been part of Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe instead.

@Meka66 Lot of Latvia focus tree name translations and probably also descriptions are wrong and also translations in all aspects in game are partly wrong. There are lot better words to use. I can help you with translations if you are willing to fix it.

Not going to lie, really not a fan of a lot of choices for the political side of the focus trees, though this isn't new for me. Hard to get excited for the other stuff since we don't see modifiers. Really hoping for a game mechanic DD next week.

The SSR satellite option in missions represents not being annexed by USSR but giving in to USSR like Eastern Europe to communism after WWII. USSR presumably still can normally annex them, which is the historical and normal option.

What USSR didn't do is to get to recognize all SSRs as states in UN. And the other thing to it is that Stalin heavily controlled even diplomacy of Ukrainian and Belarusian SSRs, that was reviewed by Soviet foreign affairs departments; other SSRs didn't even get to have their own diplomatic services. It's mainly an argument against the line of thinking that Staline intended to federate USSR; he didn't.

Perhaps giving the Soviets a focus to annex the pupated states similar to Tannu Tuva would be a good idea.? Anyways, this is great and I'm looking forward to it.

Why does it say 1935?

It's kind of funny to see people complain again and again over stupidly unrealistic focus.
The first big unrealistic thing is to see in almost every game Germany destroy Soviet Union. They real life performance is already a miracle. So after that, what's wrong with unrealistic thing ?

"Helmut - push harder! Our Tiger needs to get to the front! Who knows when we get fuel again!"
1. ATM units stop not when they are already totally out of supply - what your comment implies, but when their further movement may create a situation on insufficient (i.e. below 100%, not necessary 0%) supply.
2. ATM all units are affected - even if you create an infantry-only unit with horse supply - which can theoretically move several hundred km with only what they have with them at the start of the march.

So I must respectfully disagree with your comment.

Please tell me this will not be a generic communist focus tree for those countries as seen on the left of some screenshots. It's already been disappointing how communist focus trees have been shafted since Death or Dishonour, even for Yugoslavia which did historically turn socialist by the end of the war.

By the number of states in Finland,I do no think there will be a finnish focus tree. Usually,a new Focus Tree means also some new states,And it seems like Finland is the same. Hope to be wrong and actually get a Focus Tree for Finland, tho
created when they teach the Polish rework we hardly saw any significant changes in their map

It may also be that they deliberately strategy marketing to impact their reveal at this weekend's PDX com jointly in the soviet rework.

I have quite a few questions for this one

1) Will Ostland be a puppet of the Germans?
2) Do all these focuses last 70 days?
3) Does Lithuania get cores on everything shown in the image?
4) Would it be too much to ask for a decision to change your flag as Lithuania? That green one looks like a carpet
