Greetings Survivors,

Our Enhancement Patch #2 is on its way! It includes a variety of bug fixes and 5 brand new quests.

We’ll let you know when the patch becomes available to download, so keep an eye on our social media channels, and as always, we’re looking forward to your feedback.

Stay safe and play games. See you in the Aftermath!

Game versions
PC: 1.12.3.8070
Xbox: 1.12.3.129

General
  • 5 new quests have been added to the game.
Gameplay
  • Fixed an issue with the upgraded Ranch building that caused saves to be broken when loaded. The following could be observed when the problem occurred: pop up alerting you that the Gate had been built would reappear, vehicles in your Garage would go missing, Fog of War would reappear all around your colony.
  • Changed the Gate and the Campsite upgrading to happen at the push of a button like other building upgrades instead of being instant, so they are not easily missed anymore.
  • Updated the button that can be used to view the colonists working at buildings. Before this button was a small “i” button in the top left corner of the colonist portrait. It now has a new icon that is much larger and easier to click on and it is positioned on the bottom of the portrait.
  • Fixed an issue that caused weapons the colonists were holding to disappear after saving and loading the game.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the colonists to not gather meat from animal carcasses.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented colonists from repairing some buildings such as the tent in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the entire colony to become stuck if a resource was at the edge of the colony map.
  • Fixed the issue that caused some of the Founder’s Edition content to not be visible to the players, who purchased it.
  • Made a minor adjustment to the visual growth of trees to help the game performance.
  • Made a back-end adjustment to the way the game handles the wild animals in your colony to improve the game performance.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a small UI issue when the info panels were moved in the colony view.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Societies button in the colony view to only work when pressed with the cursor on the left side of the button.
  • Fixed issues with the new Tech Tree, which allowed you to start researching some techs without having to first research the tech in front of it.
  • Balanced the amount of ideology-restricted techs to ensure they are all more equal to each other.
  • Adjusted the panel that shows what items to select for a building (such as the Seed selection on fields or the Animal Selection for the Ranch) so that the icons are now more centered.

I'm going to stop playing the game for awhile due to the number of bugs making it too frustrating.

I don't know where else to put this, so I'll dump my notes here. I’ve been playing this game nearly two years. Since its release, anyway. I can’t believe that certain bugs are still in the game after all this time.

At this point in time, it’s a 3/5. If the below were fixed, for me it would be a 5-star game because the gameplay is really good and starting to get really interesting.

Bugs:
  • When I upgraded my farms, all my animals disappeared. so I had to buy all new ones.
  • There was a weird update (I think) on the 12th Jan, so when I logged in, all my cars were gone, all the colony map was foggy as though I hadn’t already discovered every inch of it. No cars in the world map left (as I drove them all to the colony throughout the game) so I had to buy them from trading communities. Really annoying bug.
  • Still crashes during catastrophes (even 2 years later!) Especially Meteors.
  • Crashes 1 out of 10 times when I manually try and save.
  • Sometimes just crashes for no reason at all.
  • Still crashes 1/8 times when I select Environmental Waste Building.
  • As my colony gets busier, and I have over 100 colonists, the game starts to lag badly and I find I have to save, exit and come back in but then it’s only marginally faster then.
  • When I upgrade a building, it treats it as a new building, rather than giving me a roll-back option to the previous option if I decide to change my mind, I lose everything.
Colony Issues.
  • Not enough wood (planks) throughout the game.
  • Too much plastic production throughout the game from one little Recycler.
  • Not enough travelers ever come to the colony. I spend the entire game praying for people to come as I’m always under-populated. There should be other in-game events in which I can get travelers and traveler numbers should be higher when the colony is doing well.
  • The Merchant should sell more than just clothes and tools. He always gets me when I don’t have enough Corn (why ONLY corn?!) but I have plenty of other items. I’d like to be able to select a variety of items he may want, much like I can with trading communities to swap, or simply pay with money. He IS a merchant after all and should accept money!
  • Specialists do not heal automatically while on the world map, yet their opponents do!? WHY? That makes zero sense.
Xbox Issues:
  • Selecting many items from trading communities is a lengthy process that requires holding the left joystick to the right for as long as two minutes. It would be good if they could speed up as you go along so it’s far more efficient and less time-consuming.
  • When I select decorations (like bushes) and scroll to the next page, the items scroll into a loop.
  • Trying to select a small item or walking specialist can be a frustrating anger-management issue due to the Xbox controller’s inability to move a small amount easily.
  • Reporting bugs with an Xbox controller is lengthy and time-consuming. Would prefer an out of game place to do so.

Heya @Fox Emerson ! We are working hard on fixing issues in the game, thanks for this feedback though as we need as much as possible to prioritize the fixes and additions.

Something we are aware of and hope to get fixed - technically not a bug, but still not working well.

There was a weird update (I think) on the 12th Jan, so when I logged in, all my cars were gone, all the colony map was foggy as though I hadn’t already discovered every inch of it. No cars in the world map left (as I drove them all to the colony throughout the game) so I had to buy them from trading communities. Really annoying bug.
There wasn't an update then - but this sounds a lot like one of the bugs fixed with this update. If you load this save again, the cars should be back and the fog gone. This was caused by the Ranch update not working properly.

These are all related to the performance issues that come from the game not being optimized properly - something we are aware of and want to improve as we develop the game. Optimizing while still in Early Access is not an easy thing to do as adding in new features and fixes always means that things need to be re-optimized - making all the previous work obsolete. This is why we have not been able to put in the optimization we wanted to yet, but definitely working on improving this at all times.

I'll forward these to the rest of the team - they can take them into consideration when making balance adjustments to the game. As for the merchant wanting only corn - that is also a known issue we absolutely want to fix.

These too, I will make sure they reach the correct people to ensure the usability of the game is improved.

Thanks again for the feedback - it is greatly appreciated as we do want to make the game as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

So it is not as simple as changing some of the values in the code? I know a random encounter set such that there is a debug option if you have no potatoes. Couldn't that encounter - and this one - be set to take (at this time) a random amount of food from storage, nothing specific at all, just random overall? Could tweak it later to take a specific foodstuff.

I think best thing to do for the merchant is treat them as a society that visits you. You have an inventory and so do they, you trade like you would with other settlements but maybe at a higher premium price as he is a travelling salesman with costs involved in running his van

So I got on, played for about 15 minutes,
Built two transformers and then every colonist got stuck in place. I could not move my cursor around at all. Only thing that worked was slow and speed up game time.
I'm gonna try again

Update: Happened again 5 minutes after restart.
May have something to do with Specialists helping build structures.
First two times I had specialists help with constructing 1 house and 1 transformer
Tried it without Specialists helping and the same thing happened

Game Breaking bug without a doubt.
Sorry but I'm done playing until it is fixed

You playing on PC or Console buddy?
With PCs you can upload your save to the forum (plenty of threads explaining how to do this ad I'm not sure) so that Iceflake can have a look and see what the issue is.
If your on console, try a reload on your last save, if that doesn't work, start a 2nd colony and see if you can replicate the fault, if you can let the Devs know with the bug reporting tool or with a thread on here.

I'm on console, I figured I throw my issue up here and hope they see it haha
It's very unfortunate because I'm in love with this game.
I'm gonna try and mess around with it a bit and narrow down the issue
Also idk if you saw, I edited my original post

Console player too :)
been playing since day one, even when the game did become almost unplayable on consoles with the constant crashing! ;-)
stick by the game my friend, Iceflake are on the case.

Early access games always have a few teething issues but at least once a month you will see a new content drop since the start and now we have the new patches bringing in new features and fixes. Shaping up to be an awesome game.

The enhancement patch should land soon, hopefully within next 24 hours. That has alot of performance and glitches fixes in this one so hopefully will fix your problem. Its definitely worth starting a new thread to report your findings though, especially as you were able to replicate it. It may be something that has been overlooked as not a common fault so always good to report it.

Gotchya maybe I'll ill do that
Despite having to restart my game every 30 or so minutes before this little patch, I stuck by it, but as of right now, i cant go 10 minutes without losing at least 80% controller function
And then I get no controller function
Idk if it has to do with a certain building I'm destroying or if they game is legitimately broken
But I cant playblike this no matter how much I want to

Are you actually crashing back to the home screen or the game carries on but you have zero control?

The most common cause of crashes building wise at the moment seems to be the environment centre, especially if you try to move the work area.

It maybe tedious but might be worth being very methodical and making a note of everything you do so can identify that game breaking moment. Could be something so simple such as trying to get a specialist to pick up planks but it's been missed while your focused on building a shanty for example.

I know that on my console I experience more crashes and lock ups when I run the game at high speed, especially during catastrophes. Maybe thats a contributing factor? Your colony is trying to do alot at once while the games running flat out top speed?

I think figured it out.
I believe it has to to with the placement of one of my wells and when I deconstruct it.
It's right next to a decent size lake, and every game I demolish it, I experience a complete loss of control but the game Carrie's on
Loaded a save where I didnt demolish the Well, and so far, so good.
And I feel ya. My game does the worst during the Winter Storms, like I'm in right now haha.
And my colony isnt the smallest so i usually save and restart the game or reload save every 30 min or so

Man, this back and forth makes me think this game is best played on PC, that there are a lot of conflicts on console. Let's be optimistic, at least this game is nothing like Cyberpunk, according to the reports I have been watching since launch.

Think we can get a dev to talk frankly about the console version? Bet it could help.

@cpeter95 welcome to the forums chum, glad to have you aboard.

I loaded up an old save, since they said it was compatible... 10 minutes into the game, and the entire colony screen is locked up... every colonist is running in place, I can not click on any of the buildings, or colonist, can only get the speed buttons to work, and the build menu to work... report bug also would not work. and I had to go to task manager to exit the game....

Hey guys - in relation to the issue mentioned by @TLHeart and @cpeter95 - seems to be an issue with the Guard Post Guard dying. Did either of you have that building built when you experienced this issue? We are still investigating on our end, just want to check.

Oh and of course, welcome @cpeter95 to the forums and the Aftermath!

Heyya (this form of greeting because I see Joanna liked it many times)

I like you fixed many issues and bugs, especially the weapon problem. Now as far as I observed the gatekeepers fight harder when they hold stronger weapons however the animation still shows crossbows, but the point is now they have a chance in combat.
What other things I saw
- colonists on farms harvesting without scythes (of course they have it just not shown)
- food storage doesn't have entry side any more (I assume now the colonists can reach it in any direction no matter what)
- food storage shows meal, fruit can, jerky and candy bar without a number, just the icon (I haven't reached to have bakery food, so maybe they will be the same too) Looks like only the raw food (harvestable, venison, fish etc) can be shown in number. Food counter on the top shows wrong number, usually less then how many actually in storage.
- related to this food issue I see negative numbers of candy bars and fruit cans on my side in trading with other societies (so unfortunate anyway that fruit cans no longer exist on world map, I haven't seen them long ago, only jerky and candy bar)
- the aging/birthrate seems to be a bit balanced however I've seen once that the colonists is now an elder and 1 moment later died (not a long retirement huh)
- the new eye icon on the colonists is really a better one than the little 'i' before, I like it
- I didn't tell you earlier but I like how you changed the interaction of a colonists if you click on them, love the children giggling and BOO :D also like the way female colonists react hiii heyya or some melody etc. Males are still more restrained but that's reasonable :)

I haven't reached many techs since this new update so I can tell you later about farms and etc, but I look forward to play and observe

To the other gamers have problem with wood I can confirm it is a problem but if you play on average or scarce starting resources (instead of plentyful) there will be lots of wooden houses not just few planks. I recommend it really. Also if you have luck and have Lushtown or Dead Creek on the world map you can buy lots of wood from them time to time. But I don't want to give advises everyone playes differently, so sorry for this little offtopic.

Thank you and regards, keep you posted about what I observe.

Heya @tmaczko (and indeed I do like to use that greeting ;))

Thanks for the feedback - the food storage showing icons without a number is related to showing negative numbers in the trade menu - this is an issue we are looking into. Just a warning - most likely when you load the game, the complete amount will be negative due to this :(

We are working on a fix for this, will push it out as soon as we have one.

I'll also have the rest of these looked into as well - and of course, thanks for the compliments as well, we do really try our best to make the game be the best it can be so it is really nice to hear that at least in some ways we are succeeding
