The Necroids Species Pack will release October 29th!

First time ever posting regarding a Paradox game. I've had Stellaris for years, with purchasing all the DLC to date. I have to say, looking back there have been some good, others not so good changes. Every species pack so far seemed unique and original to the lore of Stellaris, but why this? Why undead? I've been put off games because they added 'zombie mode' or zombie DLC, or something along similar lines.

This just puts me off. I know I'm probably in the minority and I'll accept that. But this is a direction I didn't want Stellaris to go. As such, it will be the first DLC I won't be buying.

That said, if the AI gets improved with the general patch, that's great.

Yes, I would like the next DLC to be a megapack of new anomolies, events and achaeological sites. As in the ' more events mod , ' archaeology story pack ' and ' dynamic political events ' mods that I use all the time. Along with patches to stop everyone jamming up these forums with continuous moaning.

If the devs could make a patch for that they would have release it already :p

They're too busy working on adding a "fix all the bugs" button :D

The Devs should create an AI that does the Bugfixes for them. This way they would just have to bugfix the AI or create an AI that Bugfixes the first AI.

Interestingly, Fanatic Purifiers just got a significant indirect buff from necrophage, since apparently "necrophage" is now an available purge type for them. This lets them keep conquered pops, bypassing the main downside of the civic, and basically turns them into a different flavor of assimilator, since they get total war and can keep conquered pops from day 1 (no diplomacy, less internal growth, but better combat bonuses and with all the various things that make organic empires generally superior to machine empires at the moment). Not sure how the balance will work (it might be as OP as assimilators or perhaps even stronger, it might be significantly weaker), but that's neat.

Now if only a certain other type of gestalt empire associated with mutualist and parasitic tropes would get an assimilator/total war civic...

Really sucks that the meatiest and most unique cosmetic pack we've gotten so far is dropping in the game's current state. I'd instabuy if the lategame were playable.

Just curious.. but a number of the issues that people continually moan about are fixed with mods. So, it begs the question, why don't the devs just copy what the mod does, or work with the modders ?
Its for the benefit of all of us and I'm sure a few quid chucked the modders way would be easy enough. Would'nt it be useful to use modders as freelance coders who can specialise ?

The usual reply is

1) Mod fixes are too crude, the developers want something more nuanced and contextual "when they get to doing it" ;
2) The devs have no time to test, review and include mods, as the management, concerned about other things, believes this is a distraction that would complicate the development of new Content (tm), leading me to surmise that Paradox empire is a Byzantine Bureaucracy ;
3) If you like a mod that much, use it and be thankful for moddability of the game. The counter-reply is that the game shouldn't requite mods in order to be good.

Yes, I just wanted to see what the community ambassadors reply was.

Do you want Skynet? This is how you get Skynet.
i'm relatively sure paradox has no chance of creating skynet, i mean have you seen the current ai?

not to insult the company and their employees in any way, but you have to admit that making ai is far from their strong suit

I made a mod on steam solely to realize that vision. ([Symbiotes] is a low grade hack job origin, but it seems to work without too many bugs.)

If stellaris was written in a common programming language, instea dof the "stellaris language" it's in now, that would entice a lot more people to get creative. There are also large chunks of the game that cannot be adjusted. For example, you cannot add living standards afaik. I would pay money up front if paradox would improve the moddability and under the hood stuff for stellaris. Making rules for files consistent, adding in a bunch of basic modifier effects to see what we come up with, documentation on what half the code actually does... (Someone, somewhere, surely has the secrets written down.)

If Paradox wholesale added a mod to the game, which legally i'm pretty sure they have every right to do, they could get such a backlash over "they are profiting off of stolen ideas!!!one!1!!" it is best not to let anyone know about mod inspiration. I mean we can all see much of the code with ever release, people would be able to find out.

As long as they give the original author credit, I don't think there would be any reason to object, It wouldn't be any more "stealing" than me downloading this mod for free in the first place.

well, fact is, if they would do, even with crediting the original autor, they have to do it with autorisation of this autor and afaik this is a difficult option... i know no game where a mod becomes integrated by the publishers/gamecreators/whoever exapt some very old mods thats in over many years and used by round 90% of the players and still with massive differences to the original mod to stay away from the need of crediting the mods-autor... but yah

well, something else, on what time will we be able to buy Necroids-DLC? Atm there is still a "coming soon" on PDX-Store xD
