Issues about Resources stored within the Gate

Just saw there was a major update.
Has this bug been fixed I stopped playing because it was unbearable, is it safe to start again?

Nope!

The gate don't store stuff anymore. Instead everything is placed just right on the inside of the gate, so technically you can't loose stuff anymore due to gate storage is full.
But if it's not stored it starts to deteriorate, when it reaches 0% the box simply explodes. The problem I am having is that NO ONE seems to pick up the stuff to store it in a warehouse of General storage. Sure one or two things get picked up, but the majority of my stuff got exploded in my last game.

In my new game I keep an eye out on the exploding boxes, try to have enough carriers and cancel other work areas just to make sure the carriers don't go picking some berries instead of saving that precious medicine which is about to deteriorate.

It's SO frustrating that the most intense action in the game is NOT whether your hero survive an attack of wild boars in your colony or the catastrophes...but if your retarded workers can pick up the box of rifles BEFORE it explodes! *sigh*.

I try to reply later if my new strategy works.

Ok, I am going to be the guy who remarks there is a thread that is over a year old.

Wow, this thread is over a year old!

That's it, folks! Here's hoping the pseudostrategy works @Kvitulv
Yup! it's the game killer number one, of a otherwise great game. The new updates are great. I like the quests, and the new enemies that can appear inside the colony (pro-tip: always have a survivor or two (hero) in the colony to fend off wild animal attacks).

my (pseudo)strategy kinda works!
well, enough for me continuing playing. The problem seems to occur when the Camp storage gets full, and there isn't any other storage available. Even though you create more storage, it seems your carriers somehow for a long time don't prioritize hauling gate loot. (a bug?)

Here is my strategy:
1) Have enough storage in advance. Don't wait till the message pops up: "build a warehouse".
2) Have enough carriers. Seen enough gameplay that people often ignore this. Also don't overwork your carriers, turn off other work areas when precious loot comes to the gate.
3) build stockpiles in high producing areas. That way carriers won't carry it long ways and fill your precious General storage with junk.
4) use your heroes in the colony. They can gather berries, wood and concrete. they can also build, repair and clean contamination from buildings. USE THEM!!!

How many carriers?
in early game I like to have around 3-4. later game double that amount. Remember don't build too much roads at once, that will make your carriers less efficient.
A) keep an eye on happiness. if 'overworked' pops up or are high, it probably means your carriers have too much to do. try turn off some work areas, or deactivate some stockpiles.
B) prioritize. You don't need to stockpile 500 concrete, deactivate that stockpile!!! (carriers will still store stuff there, and by deactivate I mean move work area to a place with no resources, the red circle).
C) Don't overflow your gate with junk carried in from the world map. Take time to explore an prioritize important stuff, like Components, Parts, and Medicine.

What to loot first?
A) Science points... a no brainer right?
B) TOOLS (and clothing), that way you don't have to build a toolshop in the early games as it eats away metal you need for construction.
C) Medicine (including iodine pills and antibiotics), you won't have effective or enough medical tents in the beginning to starve off a catastrophe, but having enough medicine will get you through the first epidemics or fall-outs.
D) Components and parts. Are vital once you go electrical. so stockpile that stuff. especially Components. you need a lot.
E) everything else.

Depending on gameplay I switch around with what to loot first. In my previous game I prioritized getting food, as food production was low. In my newest game I have so effective trappers (thanks to the survivor philosophy I choose). the byproduct is fiber, so I made stockpiles around trapper's huts. Remember you don't have to place Trapper hut in the actual forest, you simple need to move work area to a forested area to provide enough game to hunt. having a Forester working on the area by planting more trees will further increase Trapper work areas (up to a 100%). A road to the nearby forest will also make the trapper faster.

This was a long rant. Hope it is to some help.

Tell that to Davide and company. You can do research while building up the colony, just remember to use the points when you have them. Easy to forget. Whether Davide knows this remains to be seen.

You can also set Stockpiles and General Storage to store only specific resources. You can also exploit the "Specialists can Build" mechanic to save metal on tools. Works on the actual construction phase only though.

You do not see the Paradox Games stream? Every Tuesday at 10 AM Eastern Standard Time, Surviving the Aftermath is streamed by some of the devs on the Paradox Games Twitch channel. Davide is one of them, and among other things he does regularly forget to use the research he has accumulated. StA veterans will spot other mistakes rookies might make from time to time. You should check it out.

I should note I do not know your time zone, so the stream is at 10 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST) for me, so you may need to convert.

Same... Just read a post recently about units getting stuck while walking or exiting a building. Sounds like those two major problems haven't been completely resolved in over a year. I really wanted to love this game.

You'd tried to save the game when it happens and than reload? that usually does it for me. no more stuck.
