Francisco de Barcelos Rolao Preto addresses a joint session of Congress
"It is a pleasure to address the First Congress of the New World Provinces of the Fifth Empire. I am sure you are relieved not to be under the rule of Herr Hitler. Portugal shares your values of religious freedom and multiculturalism. We granted full citizenship and partnership to our brothers from Angola and Mozambique, and as you know my first act as Protector of the New World was to grant full rights of citizenship and equality to all African, Latino, Native American, and other minority citizens who long suffered the cruelty of the racist government of the United States and to grant reparations. Just as this body is now much more diverse than it was a year ago, these new citizens will find increased opportunities in the empire. I have installed Black governors in all states and Black officers at all levels of the new colonial militia which will secure freedom for all Americans in the provinces of the New World. But there is also much opportunity on distant shores as well. Thanks to the recent treaty we are now masters of both the Suez and Panama canals, Canada, South and Central America, England, and much of Southeast Asia. American ship and aircraft building will help stitch together a trade network the likes of which the world has never seen."
Current Situation
We have acquired a vast empire in the final peace treaty with the Allies. The odd war between Japan and Germany remains, though I think I may call this good and stop here.
Columbia and Panama fell quickly as we slowly worked our way through Central America with our Venezualan and Peruvian allies.
The battle for the United States truly began in Mexico, where American troops established a strong front. Progress was slow but inevitable with our 70 or so divisions of elite artillery ("space" artillery - 40 width half rocket artillery half infantry with 1 modern heavy tank destroyer -- taking advantage of Portugal's infantry and artillery experts) supported by medium tank divisions, fighters, and close air support.
The Axis began a naval invasion in Canada and later the Mid-Atlantic states that helped divide the American forces. This allowed us to push into the United States proper.
America was unable to defend multiple fronts and the Fifth Empire quickly swept throughout the West and across the Mississippi, leading to American capitulation.
Canada stood alone, but swiftly fell. The Treaty of Labrador concluded the war between the Axis and the Allies, with the Fifth Empire taking 126 states across the globe.
In the old world, the Fifth Empire managed to connect its African territories, and expand from Iraq through the Near East and into Egypt to claim the Suez canal. It secured most of Indonesia and the resources in Southeast Asia. It also took all of England and a small part of southern India.
In the New World, the Fifth Empire now spans from Brazil to Alaska, with friendly states Peru and Venezuela owning small parts of that. The Fifth Empire also controls the Panama Canal and some of the Antilles.
The Fifth Empire now rules over an eligible core population of 17 million and a non-core eligible population of 589 million, along with a few small collaboration governments and puppets.
I neglected to snag a piece of Australia in the peace treaty before Germany took it, though . . .
If we were to continue the game the clear play is to join the Axis in its war with the Co-Prosperity Sphere. There is no way Japan can survive long term against Germany now. El Salvador and the Dominican Republic joined the Co-Prosperity Sphere so we could take them easily, and then set up for a long fight in China against Japan and an eventual naval invasion of the home islands. However, the -100 relations penalty from the Fifth Empire is permanent, so presumably Germany would eventually turn on me after Japan was conquered!
I am starting to fade on this game, though, so I think I may call it here. Commanding such a vast empire with all resources and both canals is a pretty good outcome for Portugal!
