This might be a trivial question, but some of mechanics are not very evident in the game.

The issue is thus - looking at a research screen certain mod costs 5 cosmite. Looking at unit modification it costs 6. For a new unit it costs 5 still. I remember applying the same mod to an existing unit at 5 cosmite cost previously.

Obviously there is some sort of modifier or mechanic that influences cosmite cost of applying a mod. But I can't find any hints as to what triggers the higher price and if the modifier can in any way be manipulated. It is a frustrating bit of opacity.

If you are using a player created module, maybe he didn't update the UI.

If its a module for a unit then that would explain the increase in cost. Units with no modules equipped will have a base cost. Units with modules equipped, simply, costs more to produce.

I understand the basic idea, I guess I did not explain myself clearly enough.

Lets take for example Incineration Module compotent. Its base cost is 10 production and 5 cosmite.
But there is some modifier, of 20%, because currently it would cost me 12 production and 6 cosmite to apply it to my Assault Bike.
The difference is illustrated on the screenshots I attached.

I am not using any game modes, just vanilla Planetfall with Revelations.

And to clarify - I fully understand that this is not a bug but some part of game mechanics. Hell, maybe it is spelled out someplace obvious and I just missed that, but I'd like to know when and why the modifier to base cost gets applied, so I can plan around it better.

It changes with unit tiers, it's the same price on t1 as it states on that screen

A 10 Production 5 Cosmite mod:

T1 : 10 Production 5 Cosmite
T2 & 3 : 12 Production 6 Cosmite
T4 : 15 Production 8 Cosmite

There might be exceptions

And then there are exceptions that don't follow tiers prices. I guess you have to remember each mod separately which is unforturnate as it can ruin your plans if you never used a mod. I wish devs brought some more order to this.

Oh that. Yeah, what tibbles just said is correct. And Heroes count as T3 unit I think? I don't really pay attention that much to module costs unless its early game. I got a itchy trigger finger xD
