I am on my 3rd story mission (available). There are two other missions offered at same time. Is it O.K. to do those missions first then take the story mission. My only reason is to get my pilots more exp, and more salvage. I am worried that the missions may go away? if I do not take it immediately. What is y'alls advice?

You mean on the same planet? Yeah, you can do the other missions without issue. You don't have to do an story mission as soon as it appears, you can always do other missions in other planets and then go to the story mission as soon as you want. I usually do a lot of mission in between to gather experience and better mechs.

The story missions will wait forever, if you want you can go and cruise the stars to level up your pilots and get better gear. However IMHO doing too many side missions between the story missions makes them too easy and removes the challenge.

Thanks.

Generally if I've got to travel to a planet to do a Story / Flashpoint mission, that's the first mission I'll run on that planet.

Reasons:

1. Injuries - Unless all your mechs have the reinforced cockpits you're a few bad rolls away from possibly having your guys in the medbay for at least a week.
2. Salvage - Even if you salvage something amazing, there is a time delay required to get the equipment installed.
3. Risks - How often are you seeing some critical damage to your mechs? I don't want to see an A line mech get dinged up and then have to delay a "Big" mission.

What I usually do: Big missions (Story / Flashpoint), then go ahead and take care of any juicy looking side contracts.

Fringe considerations:
a. Reputation, is doing the big mission going to push rep in such a way that I'll lose access to a side contract?
b. XP breakpoints. If a pilot is *one* mission away from something like called shot mastery, or other important skill I might run an easier mission first.

Side Note:

I'd rather stop off at a planet or two "on the way" before I get to a target planet, that way we still have some travel time to re-equip and get healthy, and will be at full strength once we reach the destination planet.

That being said, Story missions will wait forever, and Flashpoints will at least tell you how much time you could wait - for me it seems really awkward to travel to a planet and then possibly not be ready for the important mission right away.

Thank you. Good advice, I will keep that in mind for my next one and how I do the rest of my missions.

Yep, despite the cutscenes suggesting it's urgent, the defenders are on the verge of being defeated/the invasion force is on the way/whatever, there's nothing stopping you from spending years in-game going around and rescuing artwork from religious mobs, escorting corrupt politicians, punishing defaulting vehicle owners, supervising new militia recruits, assassinating obnoxious diplomats, etc. while the Restoration patiently waits on the sidelines.

A quick note: after you are done with the main campaign (or if you start a new "career mode" as opposed to "campaign" playthrough), you'll see special missions called "Flashpoints" pop-up. These are timed (and the time limit will display in the description), but will go back "in the stack" and a new one will be drawn when they expire, so the expired one will eventually pop-up again, it may just take a while. Again, this doesn't effect you during the campaign, because the campaign "priority missions" never expire.

OK, that is good to know. Thank you.
