487 AC - 489 AC
Daemon Targaryen, First of His Name, was the Twenty-Seventh Monarch of the Seven Kingdoms, and the rider of the dragon Nalice. He was the twin brother of his predecessor, Aenys II Targaryen, and usurper of his niece, Visenya I Targaryen. He was never formally crowned, but despite this, he is today considered a legitimate Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, as decreed by King Daemon II Targaryen.
It is near impossible to write of the reign of the usurper aside from events of the Second Dance, as the Dance took up all but the first moon of his reign. But before the Dance even began, he had spilled blood. Six of his brother’s Kingsguard, Ser Desmond Piper, Ser Aegon Waters, Ser Emory Sarwyck, Ser Orys Fyreblood, Ser Theonald Whitehill and Ser Ygon Goodbrother, Grand Maester Laziros and the then High Septon were all executed for refusing to recognise his legitimacy. The former Queen, Jeyne Bracken, was also executed after a show trial, fed to the Black Queen for her supposed treason. It was this final act that drove the Princess of Dragonstone to declare war.
Daemon’s sons, Crown Prince Jaehaerys and Prince Aegor led the initial attack from atop their dragons. Crown Prince Jaehaerys had the fledgling Deja, but Aegor had Fahrad, one of the then Great Dragons. The elder brother moved to attack Sweetport Sound, and quickly forced Lady Sunglass’ surrender. But Prince Aegor led an attack on Claw Isle, capturing it and torturing Lord Alyn Celtigar to death. Lady Paramount Elenei Connington executed Lord Taegon Fyreblood for refusing to fight for King Daemon, and Lord Bayard Hightower (or rather, Lord Hightower’s uncle and regent Ser Parmen Rowan) attacked Tumbleton, where Lord Selwyn Caron made up the Princess’ Reach Loyalists.
In retaliation, the Dornish Houses under Prince Ronyn (the Younger) marched up through the Stormlands, meeting up with fellow loyalist Lady Maia Swann and liberating Summerhall and its then Lord Vaegon Fyreblood, the four nameday old son of the executed Lord Taegon. Lord Anders Baratheon soon joined them, and together the trio of Stormlords marched on Griffon’s Roost. Prince Aegor flew to defend his father’s ally, but the Dornish were ready for them, using ‘Scorpions’ to bring down the Great Dragon Fahrad. The two-and-twenty nameday old Prince was left near death, until an unnamed Dornishman slew him. Witnessing the death of Fahrad, Lady Paramount Elenei Connington surrendered, and the Stormlands were now Visenya’s.
In the Riverlands, House Blackwood and their Tully, Darry and Belmont allies, marched on Oldstones, only for Houses Frey and Piper to rise in the defense of House Mudd. Their armies were evenly matched, even with the support of dragonriders on both sides. Visenya had Ser Baelor Targaryen and his Great Dragon, Onyxia. Daemon had no Great Dragons but his own after the death of Fahrad, but instead had numbers, and sent his brother Jacaerys and their cousin Vaekar Targaryen, atop their dragons Moldarr and Atramedes. By the end of the conflict in the Riverlands, all three would be dead. Atramedes was slain by Onyxia. She in turn fell to Moldarr, who in turn was butched by the most dangerous non-Great Dragon of them all, Jirakka, the mount of Septon Gaemon Targaryen.
The North and Vale both opted for neutrality, and in a move that scholars suspect cost him the war, King Daemon flew to the Eyrie to demand the Velaryon’s support. By chance, he flew over the den of another Great Dragon, Nefarian. The elder beast chased the Usurper away, and with it, any chance of victory. The Iron Isles and Westerlands both sided with Visenya early on, the former out of a desire for vengeance for the death of Ser Ygon Goodbrother, the latter out of a frank desire for power (Lord Lewys Redclaw would of course go on to serve as Hand of the Queen after the war).
In early 489AC, Princess Visenya marched on King’s Landing. From atop Wrathion, her loyalists demanded the city’s surrender. Unfortunately, the King and his Court had already fled to Stokeworth, seat of one of his loyalists, Lord Guncer Longwaters. After spending two days getting the capital in order, the Princess ordered her forces to converge on the last stronghold of the Usurper.
A night before the Siege of Stokeworth, Queen Jeyne Blackwood publicly admitted that she had begun the rumours of Visenya’s bastardry, and that they were false. She then tried to surrender to the woman that she had wronged so deeply. Her husband had his Queen and her loyalists executed for treason.
The Usurper spent that final night alone with his dragon. Come the dawn, he washed himself and his armour, told his men to surrender completely should he fall, and mounted the Black Queen for the last time. He took to the skies, calling out to his niece to end the war by Trial by Champion. Visenya and Wrathion took to the sky, and a battle soon ensued. Claw and tooth and fire, slowly moving from Stokeworth to Blackwater Bay. Nalice slashed out one of Wrathion’s eyes, but in the same moment, Wrathion tore open the Great Dragon’s belly, sending her tumbling into the dark waters below.
Whilst as a Maester, it pains me to write, it is to his credit that King Daemon did not try to save himself. Instead, he remained in his saddle, staying with Nalice as she fell from the sky, choosing to die with the she-dragon that served him loyalty for over three decades rather than attempting to save his own life. Perhaps he regained some of his tattered honour for such an act, the Gods alone know. His body was found a few moons later, still chained to his mount.
With her Uncle’s death, Visenya I Targaryen truly ascended to the throne. She was a moon's turn away from her eight-and-tenth name day. House’s Connington and Hightower lost their position as Lord’s Paramount, and Houses Swann of Stonehelm and House Caron of Tumbleton (later House Caron of Highgarden) took their places. Her victory, whilst not enough to completely throw off male preference inheritance, did make it so that a Princess of Dragonstone would always inherit before her Uncles, as seen with Visenya’s granddaughter, Tyanna I Targaryen.

The Second Dance of Dragons coincided with the Lysene Civil War, where forces under the command of Magister Joryllo Rogare rebelled against Doniphos Erosenes, who had declared himself Emperor of Lys and the New Valyrian Empire. Emperor Doniphos would be defeated, but managed to retreat to the lands of Sarnor, still proclaiming himself Emperor of the New Valyrian Empire. The two nations remain in a state of pseudo-war to this day.

Daemon the Usurper has been defeated and the justification for his cause has been revealed to have been built on false grounds. Some might say that the good maester shifted too much blame for the war on Queen Jeyne Blackwood instead of Daemon himself. Daemon spilled a lot of blood and provoked much of the realm to war with him freely throwing accusations of treason at many and frequently handing down executions on powerful or well connected figures such as members of great houses or the High Septon. Still, the man died a warrior's death and his character is open for future generations to interpret. A honorable man led astray by a scheming wife and his own supporters or just another grasping evil uncle and bloody-handed tyrant?
As usual for civil wars in Westeros, it is the Riverlands that suffers the most as armies clash and the region erupts into a civil war within a civil war. In the aftermath, great houses have been cast down by the new queen and loyalists to the new regime are lifted in their place.
Princess Visenya has achieved what her ancestor Rhaenyra could not by defeating her rival and becoming the first officially recognized Queen on the Iron Throne. The Iron Throne goes to a teenage princess. Time for Westeros to kneel to their rightful queen who has taken her birthright in fire and blood. But can she keep her hold on power?
So what would be the sigils for the warring sides of the Second Dance as two sides claim to be the rightful Targaryen heir? Shields with the Targaryen dragon quartered with the Bracken/Blackwood sigils? Three headed dragons colored like the claimants' personal dragon mounts or something else?

I play it.
Since this was the first event like this, I played Visenya since she was the daughter of the previous ruler. Had she actually lost, I'd have gone along with it. Can't say I'd have been entirely happy with it (given I'd have needed to go back and change some things), but I would have gone along with it.
Also, up next will be an Update of the great Houses (although it will only list the two new ones), and the new Great Dragons. Not sure whether or not I'll have Visenya's reign in this 'book', or in the 'After the Dance' one.

That's a damn good summing up!
And I would probably say the Targaryen sigils quartered with those of the Brackens/Blackwoods. The sides might end up being called the Steeds (Visenya) and the Ravens (Daemon), or something. The Blacks and the Golds are another option (Black for Daemon's dragon, Gold for Visenya's dragonstreak), as is the Blacks and the Blues (for the colour of both dragons)

The Second Dance was everything you'd expect a Dance of Dragons to be: Quick, fiery, and brutal. At least this time the Targaryens as a whole managed to keep the in-house fratricide to a somewhat discreet minimum (unless of course our new Queen has decided to start off her reign by feeding Daemon's close kin to her own dragon, as seems to be traditional...).

Visenya didn't, but Daemon's sons both died in the war. The nearest kin Daemon had aside from 'Senya herself was his brother or sister, and they were either neutral or supporters of 'Senya.

If this AAR's Second Dance was its own CK2AGOT bookmark, it would something like this.
The Long Peace after the War for the Dawn established by Jaehaerys III would end with the untimely death of King Aenys II in 487 AC. Aenys II had named his only child and daughter Visenya as his heir. However at the bidding of his wife and his supporters, the King's younger twin brother Daemon would defy the late king's will and seize the Iron Throne for himself. The first great civil war in generations would erupt between the supporters of King Daemon I Targaryen and the supporters of Princess Visenya in a conflict later called the Second Dance of the Dragons.

When his wife and followers convinced him that Visenya was not his brother's trueborn heir, Daemon would quickly move to secure King's Landing to demand every noble accept his birthright, and ruthlessly executed anyone that refused to accept him as King. His actions would rile up much of the realm against him but Daemon remains determined to fight for his birthright.
Visenya Targaryen
The only child of King Aenys II and Queen Jeyne Bracken, Visenya Targaryen was named her father's heir. Despite being famed for her classical Targaryen silver hair with a golden streak, whispers abound that Visenya is not truly her father's trueborn daughter which many suspect were planted by her jealous aunt Jeyne Blackwood. After the sudden death of her father and while she was on Dragonstone, a plot was hatched to place her uncle Daemon on the Iron Throne and to arrest the supporters of the Crown Princess. Most of her father's Kingsguard were seized and put to death by Daemon while her mother Jeyne Bracken was arrested. After her mother was put through a show trial and then cruelly fed to Daemon's dragon, Visenya became determined, with the backing of her supporters, to seize her birthright through Fire and Blood.
Lady Paramount Elenei Connington
Elevated to the Lord Paramountcy of the Stormlands in the aftermath of Robert's Rebellion, the lords of of Griffon's Roost are famous for the fierce loyalty to the Targaryens and to the memory of the controversial King Rhaegar I Targaryen who gave them the Stormlands in particular. The Conningtons became some of Daemon's foremost supporters in the feud between the rival halves of House Targaryen as the gallant and charming Daemon Targaryen was the man most like the former king Rhaegar. Lady Elenei took it upon herself to execute any lord that would not swear loyalty to Daemon including Taegon Fyreblood the head of Targaryen cadet house Fyreblood to the outrage of Visenya and her supporters. Now, the Conningtons march to war to defend Daemon's claim on the Iron Throne.
Lord Paramount Mudd
House Mudd has a long history in the Riverlands. Once among the greatest of River Kings, they were reduced to mere sellswords and hedge knights. Many years and generations later, Jon Mudd would befriend the future King Aegon VI Targaryen allowing the Mudds to unexpectedly the chance to rule over the Riverlands once more when the King Aegon VI decided to grant the Mudds Oldstones and lordship over the Riverlands after a Riverland Civil War. The Mudds did not waste to the chance to show their ability to rule and loyalty to their Targaryen benefactors. Now, Lord Mudd has pledged his sword to Princess Visenya's cause as House Blackwood and their allies rise up against Oldstones in support of Daemon. Can House Mudd keep their hold on power and defeat the Riverland rebels or will the Mudds lose it all a second time?

The Great Dragons of the World after to the Second Dance of Dragons:
The Great Dragons of the World after to the Second Dance of Dragons:
With the death of three of the previous Great Dragons during the Second Dance of Dragons, Queen Visenya I Targaryen was in a position to name their replacements. She called the few members of her family that remained, including her uncle Septon Gaemon, and in return supported his rise to High Septon. In 490AC, they announced their choices.
The three Dragons named were:
Wrathion the Queenslayer: The mount of Queen Visenya herself. Wrathion was the only known offspring of Nalice the Black Queen, whom he killed at the end of the Second Dance of Dragons.
Drakkisath the Blue: A virtual unknown until he was named as a Great Dragon, Drakkisath was known for his brilliant blue scales and lazy and almost pleasant nature. Despite this, he was Sintharia’s mate, and would go on to never lose a dragon duel or fight he was ever a part of.
Jirakka: The most dangerous Dragon of them all, according to some sources. Jirakka was the perfect mix of swift and strong, with a vicious temperament. Jirakka took very few riders, but the most notable was Septon Gaemon Targaryen, son of Maegor III Targaryen and later the High Septon during the reign of his niece. Notably, she killed the dragon Moldarr during the Second Dance of Dragons.
With the death of three of the previous Great Dragons during the Second Dance of Dragons, Queen Visenya I Targaryen was in a position to name their replacements. She called the few members of her family that remained, including her uncle Septon Gaemon, and in return supported his rise to High Septon. In 490AC, they announced their choices.
The three Dragons named were:
Wrathion the Queenslayer: The mount of Queen Visenya herself. Wrathion was the only known offspring of Nalice the Black Queen, whom he killed at the end of the Second Dance of Dragons.
Drakkisath the Blue: A virtual unknown until he was named as a Great Dragon, Drakkisath was known for his brilliant blue scales and lazy and almost pleasant nature. Despite this, he was Sintharia’s mate, and would go on to never lose a dragon duel or fight he was ever a part of.

With the end of the Second Dance of Dragons, Houses Hightower and Connington lost their positions of Lords Paramount. It would be close to half a year before Queen Visenya would announce their replacements. With advice from those Lord Paramount’s that were loyal to her (The Iron Isles, Riverlands, Dorne and Westerlands), her Uncle Septon Gaemon, and her husband, Cormond Strongblood (who had taken to styling himself ‘King-Consort’), the decisions she made were:

It has often been said that the Lannister's, once rulers of the Westerlands, offered to buy the Lord Paramountcy of the Reach at the time, although no records remain to confirm, or deny, such claims.

Oddly, for such a significant figure in the history of the Iron Throne, there is very little one can write of the first reigning Queen besides how she came to the throne. Most of her reign was spent travelling and fixing the wounds caused by the Second Dance, especially in the Reach, Riverlands and Stormlands. In her six-and-twenty years on the throne, she close to a decade was spent travelling the realm. The peace she forged would last well into her granddaughter’s reign, when the Martell’s rose in rebellion.
Despite having been proven as the lies of Queen Jeyne Blackwood, Visenya I Targaryen wore the same crown as her father, Aenys II Targaryen, as if to reinforce this. Her small council including former ‘Wood’s’ (supporters of her Uncle, Daemon the Usurper), although their authority was curtailed by the ‘Stones’, her own supporters. This included the Hand of the King, Lord Edric Slynt of Duskendale and her husband and Master of Whispers, Cormond Strongblood.
Visenya I Targaryen died in 515 AC, at the age of four-and-forty, just as her Uncle did. The cause was likely a mix of exhaustion and illness. She was succeeded by her son, Jaehaerys IV Targaryen.

When Joryllo Rogare rose to overthrow him with the support of many of the Free Cities, he fought a fighting retreat to the Erosenes’ northern holdings of Saath and Morosh. The Rogare patriarch declared victory, but both Freehold and Empire would have minor skirmishes for the next century.
Daenysa Otherys: A ‘Black Pearl of Braavos’ that would acquire the city of Moonsbridge as a gift from the then High Sealord, Syrano Nestoris. Daenysa would become the first woman to lead the Braavosi Freehold, breaking fifty years of Nestoris dominance. Her husband, Bharrala Bandry, was a member of the ruling family of the Summer Islands.
Lao Zhao: Appearing for a second time in these lists. Lao Zhao would, in 497 AC, lead a rebellion in Yi Ti. His victory saw the end of the Temurid’s Lavender dynasty. Zhao thus became the first of the Carmine God-Emperors. During the first decade of his reign, the Dothraki Sea would gain independence from the Empire in a series of mass rebellions. Despite this, his reign was seen as a golden age.
Irier Temurid: The last of the Lavender dynasty to rule Yi Ti, and with it the one hundred and two year rule of the Temurid family. She would outlive her overthrow by twelve years, dying in exile somewhere within the Bone Mountains.

Visenya certainly seems to have been a fair and not particularly vindictive ruler. The Iron Throne certainly needed time to rest and recuperate after the turmoil of the Second Dance.
And Lao Zho, continues to impress. Hoping to continue to see great things from the August Descendants of Lao Cho as we enter the final stretch!

Queen Visenya I was wise to rule in an evenhanded manner and not attempt to purge all her enemies like Aegon II or Rhaenyra would have after the Second Dance of the Dragons. To do otherwise would have prolonged the war and suffering. It is also a clear contrast with her uncle's short and bloody reign. Visenya was a monarch that could step off the conquering horse (or dragon) and rule the realm in peace afterwards. Visenya's successful reign probably was not enough to erase the stain of the Half-Year Queen but she made a bit easier for a woman to sit on the Iron Throne.
Cormond Strongblood can be compared to Princess Nymeria of the Rhonyar. He is famous for making the first expansion of the dominions of the Iron Throne since Aegon the Conqueror founded the Kingdom, due to his invasion of the Stepstones.
The first five years of his reign were peaceful. Winter came and went within those years, banditry was at a low, and trust in House Targaryen was at a near all time high. Jaehaerys IV held a large tourney every year, to the approval and joy of the smallfolk.
In 520AC, Ronnel I Rykker, King of the Stepstones, died. His son and heir was a boy of just seven name days. Taking advantage of this, and as an excuse to leave the capital, Jaehaerys IV declared that he would take the troublesome islands, and bring justice and the rule of law to the wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Aided by the Crownlands and Stormlands, he (and, let us not forget, his Wife and Queen) led simultaneous attacks on each island. Lords Swann and Baratheon took The Skulls and Dark Den respectively, with Lords Lothston, Longwaters and Slynt attacking Last Refuge, Grey Gallows and Shame Isle. The Queen led the attack on Sunstone, and the King took Bloodstone. This would leave one last island, Wreckstone. Ser Bywin Rykker, regent of the Kingdom, offered to surrender the island. At the parley, and reportedly with a broad smile on his face, he handed over his seven nameday old King to his enemy in rags and chains.
Jaehaerys, incensed at his betrayal, had Bywin hanged. But, unfortunately for King Cleos, it didn’t matter. He had already been defeated. The boy-King stood tall, looking Jaehaerys in the eye, and, if the stories are true, asked to join the Kingdoms of the Iron Throne. This amused the Fireknight so much that he accepted the request.It is more than likely, however, that this story is false, due to the age of Jaehaerys’ foe.

For ten years, the appointed regent of the Stepstones, Ser Clifford Mullendore did his utmost to bring the Stepstones properly into the Kingdom. Thanks to upheaval in the Freehold of Lys, this process was more or less peaceful.
In mid 530AC, an army of Clansmen under the command of Chief Rherd of the Painted Dogs came down from the Mountains of the Vale and raided countless villages. Crown Prince Aegon was sent to put them down. But the Prince’s dragon, Therepentous, was young, and took many arrows from the wildlings. The rebellion was crushed utterly, but the Prince’s wounds were great. He made it to Stokeworth, before he could go no further.
Jaehaerys IV Targaryen died in late 530 AC, he was 41. He was succeeded by his son, Aegon, but due to his injuries, the eighth Aegon would be dead barely a moon’s turn later.

It was this attempt that would lead to a Civil War, and in turn, the most devastating conflict of the 500’s, the Drumm Uprising.

For ten years, the appointed regent of the Stepstones, Ser Clifford Mullendore did his utmost to bring the Stepstones properly into the Kingdom. Thanks to upheaval in the Freehold of Lys, this process was more or less peaceful.
In mid 530AC, an army of Clansmen under the command of Chief Rherd of the Painted Dogs came down from the Mountains of the Vale and raided countless villages. Crown Prince Aegon was sent to put them down. But the Prince’s dragon, Therepentous, was young, and took many arrows from the wildlings. The rebellion was crushed utterly, but the Prince’s wounds were great. He made it to Stokeworth, before he could go no further.
Jaehaerys IV Targaryen died in late 530 AC, he was 41. He was succeeded by his son, Aegon, but due to his injuries, the eighth Aegon would be dead barely a moon’s turn later.

Notable People:
Cleos Rykker: The last King of the Stepstones, and first Lord Paramount of the Stepstones. He was a boy of just seven namedays when he lost his crown. He was taken as a squire to the King, and became fast friends with both Konrad Goodbrother and Prince Aegon.
Alienor Dayne: The first Sword of the Morning in over two hundred years. Alienor swore that she would only marry the man that could beat her in a duel. After two years, and a chain of fifty victories, she was beaten, albeit barely, by the then Prince of Dragonstone, Jaehaerys. She would, eventually, join her daughter's Queensguard, becoming only the second woman to do so in history.
Konrad Goodbrother: The heir and later Lord of the Iron Isles. He squired to Jaehaerys IV Targaryen, alongside Cleos Rykker. He converted to the Faith of the Seven, and attempted to bring it to the Iron Isles. It was this attempt that would lead to a Civil War, and in turn, the most devastating conflict of the 500’s, the Drumm Uprising.

Aegon Targaryen, Eighth of His Name, known as ‘The Moon King’, was the Thirtieth Monarch of the Seven Kingdoms, and the rider of the dragon, Therepentous. His was the shortest reign in the history of the Iron Throne, at little over a moon's turn. He was well known for his dark brown hair with silver dragon streak. He wielded Dark Sister.
In 530AC, he led a defensive campaign against Rherd of the Painted Dogs. Whilst he achieved a crushing victory, he suffered grievous injuries. His dragon also suffered great injury. His forces marched to bring him home, but only made it as far as Stokeworth before moving him became impossible.
It was here that he received news that his father was dead..and that his wife was with child.
He was crowned at Stokeworth by the High Septon, and with his pregnant Queen ruling in the Capital, ‘ruled’ from Stokeworth until his death on the seventh day of the twelfth Moon, 530AC. He was succeeded by his sister-wife, Tyanna.

There really is little that can be said of this Aegon, but he was a King, so he gets an entry here.
