Author's Note: Holy crap but did this take forever. I was hoping to have this out for the two year anniversary of this AAR, and I'm basically only off by about a month. That said, the hardest part was trying to find scale appropriate representations of all of the aircraft. Then, editing them out of where they were (wish I was better with Paint.Net, because as you might be able to tell there are some random pixels floating around everything). I was going to try and shoot for every nation, but after this, I think Germany can have it and everyone can drool over these. Inspiration provided by "@Naval_Graphics" on Twitter, and their "Every plane in the USAF/USMC/USN/USA" and especially "Every Ship in the USN" (which was one of the ones that I really wanted to do). I guess this is also in honor of being named "Graphics Artist of the Year"!

Since I didn't annotate it within the graphics: the JGs have Bf 109s and Bf 110s, the ZG have Fw 190s.

Well, that's one way to avoid AI idiocy in the game...

For sure. I hate the fact that the AI makes this game far easier than it needed to be, honestly.

I just caught up...this..this is trully glorioys setup...

I am in shock

Well, maybe have a bit more shock from these graphics!!

That is an incredible bit of work, a suitably titanic effort to demonstrate why your deserved to be Artist of the Year. :)

OCD detected!!!

More than a little, heh!

Thank you for your high praise. I wish this could have been better presented (I had to deal with limited choices for certain air wings, which is why there aren't any Arado Ar 232s in the transport groups) and I mixed the group composition for the MFGs (because there were several types working for the KM, and this makes a bit more sense... although I probably could have added a few more of the Do217s to everything...

mind... blown... great work man, great effort and great work.

PS: If my German isn't as rusty as I remember, destroyer (in this context CAS, right?) was zerstörer not zerstroer

That is a really interesting method of data presentation.

I feel many electrons may have been inconvenienced

Showoff! :p

It's indeed quite a bit of effort. More trying to work around making everything both fit and to align properly.

Your German isn't that rusty. I just didn't get the umlaut in correctly. Those are for the Multirole fighters, though.

Here's a similar one for the USAF. It really conveys the size and strength, which is why I made it. It does unfortunately take forever to make in my limited time availabilities...

:D

HOLY FRIED POTATOES WITH BAVARIAN BEER!! that's quite intense amount of detail!

I do wish it had come out cleaner, or that I could have had an easier time aligning things. I might try for one similar to the US Navy one for the Kriegsmarine, but I'd have to figure out how to make appropriate silhouettes for everything.

The R and O should switch places though. Well I have to admit there's some rust because my first guess was "destroyer" but this is no navy :D

Again, great work man. Congratulations!

It looks epic, all those aeroplanes, so neatly lined up and sorted into their respective units and sub-units. It brings a tear to my eye. I might steal that particular representation method for some future VVS update in 'Odin'.

Having used silhouettes and blueprints, to scale, of quite a few things in my AAR, I will share my little secret: I just get a representation (with a good enough resolution) of the desired vehicles/aeroplanes/ships/whatevers, I look up their exact measurements, and then resize said representations so they're all the same scale. Of course some tinkering with contrast, white balances etc may be involved to make it all look similar, at least when your representations are quite large. (Though, in the picture above, with silhouettes of this size and resolution, it's really not necessary.) I'm not sure you can do that with paint though...
(see the catalogue of US vehicles and aeroplanes available for LL in the latest update of 'Odin' which is more modest than this, visually. It does contain all blueprints, re-sized to be the same scale, following roughly the method I just outlined.)

No, for sure you're absolutely correct. I was going from my own memory. I'll look into how difficult it might be to correct... and you're also correct about the designation: "Heavy/Destroyer Squadrons" were generally formed from Bf 110s, Me 210s, Me 410s, but also flew Bf 109s and other aircraft. In TTL, they're made up of multi-role aircraft, and I've subsumed the Bf 110s into the regular fighter squadrons.

I look forward to seeing your version!

For sure. I'd like something where everything is white (ie, more like a real silhouette) for the navy one. And without all of these pesky random pixels.

Not to be too flippant (not meant in this way) but this would make a great wallpaper pattern for a wehraboo Wolf’s Lair! ;):D

Guaranteed!

:D

Amazing. Even the iPad can’t do it justice. Will need to fire up the PC for a larger scale look. :)

I hope that it excites!

but I'd have to figure out how to make appropriate silhouettes for everything.

I'm not for a second suggesting you should (it would be a lot of work!), but if it helps, a quick and dirty way if you have photoshop or software with similar capabilities is to magic wand select on the white outside bit of a 2D profile like those on Navypedia (see http://www.navypedia.org/), then invert the selection, add a layer, and fill black (or whatever colour you want your silhouette) in the new layer within the selection area. In case it helps :).

This either represents a substantial shift in Luftwaffe doctrine and tactical thinking, the Bf 110 was considered far more important than the Bf 109 pre-war. The 109 was a mere interceptor, defending the Reich and operating over the front lines to deny the enemy air superiority, important work but not what a true flier dreamed of.

It was the 110 that would take the offensive role, escorting bombers into enemy territory and then 'destroying' any enemy fighters that dared attack. Hence all the best pilots and ground crew went to the 110 squadrons and they were the elite, Gorings 'Ironsides'. To say the 110s have been dumped in the general fighter squadrons and the prized Destroyers are now multi-role fighters is a radical shift on many levels.

OR this is Paradox getting it's research wrong and incorrectly ramming random names onto their fixed tech tree.

It genuinely could go either way. ;)

In fact, if it was 15 years ago when I still had some time I would've tried to fix the tech tree but unfortunately cannot

I am up to date and impressed by both the photohraph selection and by the spiffing graphics!

I am also slightly concerned for your sanity with regards to how many nations you will be controlling in concert, but clearly you have everything well in hand. :p

I might try using my ships profiles and see how I could employ them for this. If anyone has some guidance about how best to do this, I'm all ears!

Honestly, it's me trying to sort out how best to reflect that there aren't any "heavy" fighter types "displayed" in the tech tree, and trying desperately to rationalize what happened historically versus what I can get into in the game. So, more of the latter than the former.

In fact, if it was 15 years ago when I still had some time I would've tried to fix the tech tree but unfortunately cannot

Oh believe me, I have a whole section of what I would do with the HoI3 platform if I could have given it the DH treatment... and a pile of books in my Amazon wish list to develop a more realistic approach to the game.

Since things have slowed down considerably as the workload gets larger, I've been trying to make sure that any move I make would meet some certain stringent guidelines that I'll post eventually.

Holy Infographics batman! That is some titanic effort there @Wraith11B! Keep up the great work!

And wash your hands!

Edit: 1,000th post!
