Imperator Dev Clash - Tuesdays 15:00 CET

Not free, as is right now with my accumulated 200 AE and power costs being increased by 200% due to that AE it will be a long time before that "free" real estate can be grabbed. Adding to the fact that I'm not in the top list of people with inventions and that civic power is used for both inventions and relocating pops ... the inventions take priority. Pops can always be taken from other places if necessary, if you catch my drift :) But inventions don't come from anywhere else.

It also so happens that I wasn't aware of some changes being made so I spent all of last session without the matching ideas bonus power generation, leaving me pretty dry on that front.
What idea do u need that costs a lot of power? :)

I would like to apologise for saying he has little experience, I was mistaken and you have convinced me he knows very well how to play the game, as for the multiplayer aspect of the game I am not convinced it should have been so quick and easy for Kaiser Johan to fell Carthage, Carthage was being played by the tech lead for Imperator who also should have a lot of experience in the game
also the times in multiplayer EU4 and Stellaris when we saw the Kaiser at his best was when he was basically playing singleplayer, forming Prussia and taking over Germany, as Byzantium he mostly expanded away from where players were and in most of his not one sided player wars he was a defender, as Dithmarschen he managed to escape all the other players in order to take over the new world and in Stellaris he didn't attack anyone else at all
Kaiser Johan is indisputably a great player in all of these games but his style is more tailored to singleplayer than multiplayer yet he took down a near equally experience player led Carthage before the 2nd punic war should have started

I have to say that Carthage did not do a good job at all during the first years of the clash. Rome was expanding like crazy and he did nothing to halt its spread. Carthage's holdings in Africa and Iberia are relatively poor compared to the huge wealth present in Italy.

A proper Carthage strategy would've been spreading into mainland Italy and keeping strict naval dominance of the central Mediterranean, moreso if you know that Rome's player is experienced with an extremely similar Paradox game like EU4. Conquering Sicily and keeping it as a naval base, then going further into the boot and taking on the Greek states there before bordering Rome and dealing a coup-de-grace when your army is ready.

Then again, the Dev Clash is all in good fun, so it's very possible the tech lead wasn't expecting such a bold move from KaiserJohan at all and was caught completely offguard. By the time Rome had a firm grip on southern Italy it was all over for Carthage.

We should've also seen moves from the Epirus player, but he seemed focused on keeping his tech up instead of going for the Pyrrhus move and taking southern Italy. Now he's stuck between Macedon and Rome.

Epirus is played by Katz, the player who gave us Viyanayagar back in the thunderdome.
He's a good player, but he doens't seem to be willing to take the initiative on his own.

I think even without doing this he could have been able to hold his own with a proper (read: larger and more capable than Rome) navy. Fight the first couple of wars to a stalemate by crushing the Roman fleet and eventually get some other player allies to assist in taking the fight to Rome.

Instead he had a huge army, and no way to get it to the decisive point because kaiserjohan owned the seas.

Except the Devs answer to that is to make it more costly to reduce AE. Which seems overly simplistic. Blobbing very fast should result in real issues: cultural clashes, powerful opposition families, revolts, generals gaining cohort loyalty faster. But none of those things seemed to happen in the dev clash. There seems to be too much button pushing to make problems disappear. Spend some religious points to change pops, spend some power to reduce AE.

Im sure writing code for all of that is time consuming and then you need to test it all again. And the simplistic way means the player doesn't have to micromanage every province. But it sure takes out the immersive quality of the game.
I didn't say their solution was a good one, just that players blobbing so easily seems to be a bit of a problem.

sounds like he didn't channel his inner Hannibal enough, he should have ignored building a navy and marched his army though Spain and France and over the alps to attack Rome

I find Naval Supremacy to be absolutely vital in I:R, more so than EU4. The threat of being able to drop 100k legionnares in the enemies capital, pillage his heartlands and enslave his people while they take the long march around towards Rome is no small thing. Also a free win if you select a conquest wargoal on an island, as you can then force the peace whenever you want :)

(I seem to be the only one who thinks the -50% Trireme Cost idea is OP aswell but please don't tell anyone :>)

I suppose that's what keeps Egypt at bay and deters them from fighting you. Phew, marching from Egypt to Rome through Phrygia and Greece or to Carthage through the NAfrican deserto_O

Out of curiosity, how frequent would you say balance issues being discovered due to dev clashes/other internal MP games is compared to bugs being discovered due to those things?

We do find and look for both :)
Balance-wise, AE is the one that springs to mind, although we've discussed it since well-before the devclash started. The devclash save is quite old though and the gamestate is not always represenative anymore. I would argue the MP stability is the most useful feedback, balance stuff we can always find when playing singleplayer :)

@RodDel sorry not sorry

Pritannia should get the greatest coward Award, they had naval superiority and Rome rather far away and what do they do, abandon their allies and the war.

Either the game didn't save the last things shown in stream or otherwise you haven't made the map from the last part, since the stream clearly showed Rome taking most of Carthage at the end. Though if the game did crash on the peace deal itself I could see why it's not included.

You can see the territory Rome took is occupied so the game probably crashed.

Either the game didn't save the last things shown in stream or otherwise you haven't made the map from the last part, since the stream clearly showed Rome taking most of Carthage at the end. Though if the game did crash on the peace deal itself I could see why it's not included.
That's got to be worse for Gorion, since he's going to have to watch as @KaiserJohan's Rome completely annexes his country (Carthage) all over again and knowing there's not a single thing he can do about it.

He didn't get fully annexed. Though, I wonder if that wasn't possible or if it just was KJ wanting the war over before the end of the session. Since when Jake played around with the peace screen it seemed like he could take everything.

I wonder if Gorion will even load in as Carthage. The country is clearly dead... loading in as them does nothing.
