I've been reading alot of previews and developer interviews and such and have noticed that Kyros is being refered to interchangably as a man AND a woman at different times by different people (including developers!), so which is it? While I don't think it would make a vast amount of difference really, especially as I doubt we'll see much of Kyros beyond reference and perhaps a small appearance either in voice or person but, to the best of my knowledge, there haven't been many examples in crpgs in which, the all powerfull conqueror and supreme ruler has been a woman. Obvious examples in D&D not withstanding.

I do think it would be a nice variation for a change if Kyros is woman.

Kyros is both our Mother and Father!

According to the gameplay videos, no one knows what gender Kyros (Praise be his/hers name!) is apparently. I would not be surprised if it turned out that Kyros is some genderless entity and everybody is referring differently to shklim/shkler because of lack of gender neutral pronoun in English and so they pick the one they feel more fits

Thats an interesting idea. Ingame characters have made a point of bringing up Kyros unusually vast magical power. Could also be that very few actual ingame characters really have any idea who or what Kyros really is, being so distant in terms of place, both socially and geographically. Perhaps Obsidian hasn't even settled on the a choice yet! Hence the interchangeable use of him/her.

It would be cooler is it was a female in my opinion but I'm fine with "the genderless being" theory too. Looking forward to our interactions with Kyros in game!

Agreed.

@Earmuffs directly quoted the game, while @R.O.F.L referenced that same quote. :)

Now, I'm not going to say it's a direct reference to Babylon 5, but it's enough to make me wonder.

I haven't seen that quote, trying very hard not to spoil too much (It aint easy!) But it would be nice to think its a reference to B5, that show doesn't get enough love!

There's an interesting little tidbit on Kyros in the lore page:

For a figure whose name is known to everyone, it is perhaps strange how little is truly known about Kyros. Those who are close to the Overlord say that direct knowledge is irrelevant -- whether one fears, serves, or reveres Kyros, in the end it is obedience that is the key to surviving in the Overlord’s world.

I'm thinking Kyros is purposefully obscured, to not seem like a person sitting on a throne somewhere, but an almost cosmic force of nature. From what we've seen, there doesn't even seem to be any statuary or other representations of the Overlord. Kyros is Power. Kyros is Law. Kyros is above all. That sort of thing ;)

Would certainly be an effective layer of control and defense, can't fight what you don't know

Moreover, is Kyros romanceable :)?
That is the spirit!

It would be nice to have Lady Kyros, since there was so many male evil emperors that it is no longer fun. But having evil queen in iron mask is fresh. She dont need to express her gender since undefetied legions march for the idea not a person. But if we ever meet in flesh it would be nice to have girly conqueror.

I don't know about girly lol A strong, decisive powerful woman, who was also romanceable, would be awesome though ;)

Every time I hear mention of romancing Kyros, all I can imagine is those really bad paranormal romance novels where the edgiest dark vampire lord who has never known love in thousands of years falls for some she-doesn't-know-how-beautiful-she-is 18-24 year old girl, because she's the specialist snowflake that ever was and ever will be. It's pretty much the same line of wish-fulfillment fantasy lol ;) I don't get the impression that Obsidian's writers are drawing a lot of inspiration from Twilight, though.
