I think everyone can agree one of the best parts of a new patch is seeing which nations get their own NI sets. And one of the most frequent topics in the suggestion forums are suggestions for said new NIs. Unfortunately, they can be difficult to find, and can fade away pretty quickly. Hence this thread.

As I recall there used to be a thread similar for this a while back, but since I can't seem to find it, I've created this; a new NI compilation thread, where I'll try to upload any suggested NI sets I see for nations that do not yet have them for convenience's sake. If there is an Idea Set of yours for a nation that does not have an unique NI set, or if I missed one of yours, please; feel free to post.

Edit: Also, please try to keep it restrained to only tags that are already in game or have been confirmed are being added.

At the request of @Trin Tragula, I’ve composed an index of this thread that I’ll do my best to keep updated. I’ve separated it into NIs for countries that already have them (which may or may not have been influenced by the ones in this thread) and ones that don’t, and then alphabetized them for ease of access. Author will be put in parenthesis.

This very belated update to the list was courtesy of @Aquamancer, who did the legwork in updating the thread to match the current situation of NIs ingame, as well as to make it more visually appealing.

Any particular nations anyone would like to see more flavour for? I wouldn't mind seeing the canton system of Switzerland fleshed out into a unique government form, always enjoyed playing them.
This question deserves a separate thread. ;)
In my opinion cantons deserve their own mechanics for future expansion. I would also like to see revamp of awful elective monarchy. Northern Africa could use some additional flavour too. And, as everyone on this forum since at least last 4 months, I think there really need to be some big changes in the far east - Asia deserves its very own expansion!

And, as you can guess from my previous posts, I also want some love for Central Asia. I got a bit lazy with this topic, really. Gonna think about some ideas for Chagatai Hordes, hopefully I'll post them later today(CET) here and in my thread with fleshed out Kazakh Rebellion. I'm afraid they won't appear with the next expansion, but I'm counting on their inclusion once Paradox gets on with changes in Asia, that would make sense thematically. :D

Done, I'll start a thread in suggestions.

So, NI changes are promised in next week's dev diary. Here's hoping that some from this thread made it in.

There are definitely some there that people might recognize :)

The game is also far from finished and script time for each expansion or patch is limited by a number of things. In case any of you are dissapointed in a particular set being passed over that does not mean it won't be added in the future. These suggestion threads are very useful and I still reference even the last compilation thread when adding new stuff.

I realise I already have a thread about this, but as this seems to be the most closely watched venue by Paradox...

My suggestions is (suprise, suprise), to add Icelandic culture and ideas to the game.
Flesh out that Nordic culture group even further and enable me to spread my glorious island dwelling ways to the masses!

If you have an idea for an Icelandic NI set, then by all means please share it with us! But I would appreciate it if we could keep talk about culture and other non-pertaining factors to other threads.

Is there the slightest hope of Neapolitan ideas being not terrible? Hell, I'd rather Naples get Italian generic, hell, even generic generic ideas than the...whatever it is that they have right now.

Naples NI set is like a bad B movie; so bad it's good.

Pretty much this - I love playing as them, they are ideal for forming Italy! You don't feel as if you lost anything by changing your NIs to those of united Italy.

"Welcome to the Salty Spitoon, how tough are you?"

"How tough am I? How tough am I?! I conquered the world in EU4!"

"Yeah, so?"

"With Naples' NIs."

"R-Right this way, sir."

Surely something will be unveiled at today's stream, right? ;)

I even changed my avatar for this joyous occasion. Corfu will rule the waves.
Frankly, Corfu should DIE. It was Venetian in 1444, not held by the Despot of Epirus (the starting ruler of Corfu is a historical Despot of Epirus). It's brief role as capital of the Septinsular Republic not really worthy of a tag (plus it's not even a republic in-game, but a Feudal Monarchy - in 1799 !).

The Corfu tag will only be fixed when Epirus is fixed. Until then it will exist in it's current form

The devs are aware of this, and the lack of changes must be intentional.

Fixing Albania/Epirus has been one of the more common requests on the forums over the past year or so.

If they give Corfu ideas based on its wrongful setup, then that would be an excuse for not fixing Epirus.
Corfu should not get any ideas until what needs to be done is done.

Furthermore, Corfu should be destroyed.

Netherlands:
  • Traditions: I'd like to see the Netherlands get +100% naval force limit. While +50% is great, a few others have the same NI and the Dutch accounted for half the cargo transported in the 17th century as appose to Denmark and the Knights. The Danes start the game with 9 provinces and soon make it 11. Making them easily capable of surpassing the Dutch. Who only get 5 ocean provinces with England, France, and Spain having three times that amount, which also lets them build more shipyards increasing their limit even more. (The event of Dutch fluyt only helps with transport ships when it should be -10% light ship cost, the fluyts were meant for more cargo (unfortunately including slaves) not transporting soldiers) I'd be in favor of getting an additional +50% naval force limit when they complete their national ideas. Similar to Russia getting two ideas that increase man power. Buffs in sailors is useless, I've never not had enough for any country that wasn't landlocked to begin the game (Brandenburg).
  • Embrace Humanism: The +3 tolerance of heretics should also include +2 heathens as the Netherlands is a tall nation in Europe, negating the usefulness is has for countries like France that have many provinces. Heretic tolerance can be lowered because many Catholics decided/had to leave after independence.
  • Dutch Trading Spirit: Get rid of +10% trade range, it's small and useless for sea power that colonizes. I "guess" that'd help reduces the buffs I'm suggesting.
  • Polders: The dykes also helped act as a defensive structure against invaders (though to the Dutch detriment if used). Should additionally decrease fort upkeep or cause extra attrition in addition to the -10% development cost.

Not really disagreeing here, just point out what i think will happen. Either way, such set up changes are off topic here. Until it's fixed, i play Corfu pretending i'm Epirus :)

I'm trying hard to find something to base an Odoyev ideaset on, but i'm coming up short. I'm very open to suggestions on what their focus should be.

Chernigov - they had the same dynasty branch of Rurikovich - if I were to decide, I'd give them a decision to form Chernigov as well as some brand new Chernihiv ideas. Either way, CHR should be mentioned in their NIs. I also recommend finding something about other principalities of Oka. Also, something about them balancing between Grand Principality of Muscow and Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Hell, something about their relations with Golden Horde could be included as well. I was thinking about making some minor research on them but my laziness got better of me.
