I think everyone can agree one of the best parts of a new patch is seeing which nations get their own NI sets. And one of the most frequent topics in the suggestion forums are suggestions for said new NIs. Unfortunately, they can be difficult to find, and can fade away pretty quickly. Hence this thread.

As I recall there used to be a thread similar for this a while back, but since I can't seem to find it, I've created this; a new NI compilation thread, where I'll try to upload any suggested NI sets I see for nations that do not yet have them for convenience's sake. If there is an Idea Set of yours for a nation that does not have an unique NI set, or if I missed one of yours, please; feel free to post.

Edit: Also, please try to keep it restrained to only tags that are already in game or have been confirmed are being added.

At the request of @Trin Tragula, I’ve composed an index of this thread that I’ll do my best to keep updated. I’ve separated it into NIs for countries that already have them (which may or may not have been influenced by the ones in this thread) and ones that don’t, and then alphabetized them for ease of access. Author will be put in parenthesis.

This very belated update to the list was courtesy of @Aquamancer, who did the legwork in updating the thread to match the current situation of NIs ingame, as well as to make it more visually appealing.

Well, Mare Nostrum will come out in April 5, so when you get back you will have one day to implement ideas before it goes out. Good Luck :p.

Contrary to popular belief stuff is not actually added to patches up until the last day unless really necessary ;) Also I actually won't be back until the 5th :)

That would be great. Given how this thread has suggetions for all Generic tags still existing, it would be really useful.

Sure, it might be a bit of a slow process though, so if anyone has knowledge of basic NI coding and wants to help expedite the expedition process by writing out the code for their own NI's that'd be very helpful as well. (I'll get started on it tomorrow.)

As far as formatting goes, to help keep the post readable, it probably should be under a spoiler tag with separate ones for localization and the ideas themselves.

Well, then the Generic sets get to live for one more patch ;)

Remember that massive thread i linked a few pages back? That has coding templates for idea sets and descriptions. And yeah, spoiler tags seem like the way to go.

White Death might be a homage to the famous sniper, but in this case just refers to the severe winters of Finland.

Edit: also, there is a logical error in the description.
It says: Prepare for a spring invasion if you wish to conquer Finland as you do (insert "not" here) wish to feel the deadly, cold embrace of the Finnish Winter.

Yes, however my point was that this homage is an example of how some national ideas are actually a reference to future events. Finland was only invaded once (Unless my knowledge of my own country is flawed lol) by russian forces (during the napoleonic wars) and that invasion did certainly not face the white death, resulting in the loss of Finland. Finnish winter atrocity wasn't a thing, and hardly an idea/tradition, until the 20th century. Compare this to an actual really historical NI, such as the french the philosophes, which really represents how ideas/traditions in french society affected the nation. The French national idea tree overall is an excellent example of a really historical, adequate summary of the institutions that makes that nation unique. In the same sense, the various guerilla resistances (that spanned over almost half a millenia) of Cuba somewhat represents an aspect of it as a nation.

In the case of cuba as such, the pararell would be to just name it "The jungles of Cuba" with it's hard to fight an enemy that hides within dark tropical forrests and hideous mountains; +1 attrition for enemis. My point here being that some Eu4 ideas, while given a plausible reason, are less historical/realistic than others. Some are obvious fillers. Many nations in Eu4 either never came to exist (possible I am wrong here), or existed for like 10 years within the timeperiod, national ideas in these cases will be more of an abstraction than actual history. And there is nothing wrong with that!

Then again, we have the Castillian idea Spanish inquisition, 'None expects it' :D

EDIT: Actually there is one idea too many, I forgot to put in the sugar idea in custom nation edit. Will fix after sleep. One must go :(

With regards to the previous feedback I have removed the recently-inspired blockade idea and replaced it with a colonisational aspect of Cubas history - I hope you find it suitable! It is a bit dark, but I find the great genocide of the americas a neglected notion in Eu4 and wanted to shed some light on it.

In the custom nation designer the points are 200/200, but this code doesn't attribute any effect in particular. However, I have placed the ideas in historical order as to mimmick the evolution of Cuba, and all ideas are inspired by it. I learned a great deal in the process, and will now refer to myself as a proffessor in Cuban history.

The naval forcelimit is removed to make place for the 'University of Havana' idea, which I found a nice touch and more representative. The one I am least satisfied with for now is the Dark jungles and Treacherous Mountains idea, it represents an interesting aspect of Cubas military history, but it deserves a better description, might return to it. It could be replaced by a fort idea. Cuba built several forts to protect its rich cities from pirates and enemy fleets, but apparently none of them succeeded in preventing numerous attacks so making it an idea seems somewhat ironic.

As for now, I think these ideas would make Cuba both a balanced and interesting nation to play, as a territorially small but economically powerful island nation. Any feedpack is greatly appretiated! ;)

Ravensburg ideas, a bit different from @fredrikslicer ones

TRADITIONS:
+15% manpower recovery speed
-10% development cost

1.Free City Status: Since 1276, when Rodolphus I granted us the free city status, we have ruled ourselves. We are fiercly independent and any nation that tries to attack us will fight the emperor himself. +50% hostile core creation cost

2.First Paper Mills: One of the first paper mills in the Alps was built here in 1402. Now our paper production is a good source of income. +15% goods produced

3.The Great Ravensburger Trade Society: The Great Ravensburger Trade Society was a league of families of Ravensburg that controlled the trade in the city from 1380 to 1530. Its influence is beneficial for us. +1 merchant, +15% domestic trade power

4.City of Towers: Our city is known popularly as the "City of Towers" and certainly they are right. Our city, protected by the Veitsburg castle, is one of the most fortified places in the Empire. +20% fort defense

5.Strive for unity: The families that dominate the trade are good when they cooperate, but a hassle if they fight. We should try to keep them together to avoid disasters. -15% stability cost

6.Parithetic Imperial City: After the Thirty Years War, our city was designed a Parithetic Imperial City. This means that both catholics and protestants are represented in the governement, making our nation less likely to fall into religious conflicts. +50% religious unity

7.Between Wurttemberg and Bavaria: Our two powerful neighbours, Wurttemberg and Bavaria, seem very interested in controlling our city. We will have to defeat both of them if we want to be independent. +5% discipline

AMBITIONS

+1 diplomatic relations

I'd question the coring cost ambition, given that it's a free city, Ravensburg coring anything isn't the most likely of prospects, or (in the hands of a player) the most ideal of options.

That's why it is an ambition. And, in the hands of a player, it will start conquering its neighbours sooner or later.

Even with that said, as a free city, it doesn't make much sense. I'd suggest something like a tech cost discount or something along those lines.
Well, let's think in those players who don't expand and give them another ally...

If you could add in the Code for your ideas, assuming you know how to, that would be much appreciated.

Also, I think a (CODE) tag would be better than a (SPOILER) tag for writing out the NI code.

Updated, corrected ideas and ambitions:

Traditions: -20% development cost -10% build cost

"India Must be Around Here Somewhere" - "In 1492, on his first voyage, Columbus traveled along the coast of Cuba, thinking that it was part of asian mainland. "Vive La Revolucion!" - "The beautiful nation of Cuba have proven that she will not be subject to any nation but itself, no matter the odds! The courage of her soldiers are an inspiration to all suppressed nations!" (+15% army morale)

Ambition: Naval morale +10%

---------

Now with spoiler tag, one idea removed (sugar idea), and ambition changed to naval force limit, as the ambition of cuba would be a large fleet, while the development cost is more reflective of Cubas fertile soil, as such a tradition. I also renamed University of Havanna to "Universitad De La Habana" which is it actual name, but then again cuba might be formed by a non-spanish nation, so I don't really know what language to put it in?

Is there any other nation that needs doing? Found the process quite enjoyable!

Great work! Love the ideas. Some ways I would rewrite it.

the University of Rostock is one of the oldest in Europe and the oldest around the Baltic Sea. This makes the city a center of Baltic knowledge.

>The University of Rostock was the first of its kind in the Baltic region, signifying the city as a center of knowledge.

s. The ships built here are used all across the Baltic and Northern Sea.
>
used all across Northern Europe
Dunno here, but the word Baltic becomes repetetive, then again it is a very baltic nation!

The fifth idea kind of assumes that Mecklenburg has already conquered these cities, whichmakes perfect sense in a singleplayer game where the player usually has conquered them, but maybe reframe it as to the free cities SHOULD not be free states? Just food for thought.

7.The Grand Duchies: In 1815, the two Mecklemburgian duchies became Grand Duchies. That action increased Mecklemburgian prestige and importance

Concerning the strenght of the ideas. The shipbuilding time reducement is really a worthless idea, but then again if any nation should have it it's mecklenburg. The early missionary strenght will hardly be relevant for Mecklenburg until 50 years later, maybe should be moved down below University of Rostock.

Again, awesome job mate.

Scrap the Revolucion ''joke'', and replace it with a fort defense or upkeep idea. PErhaps the most amazing thing about Colonial Havana is how well defended it was.

Thanks for the correction!

Please some feedback for Cuban ideas?

This, pretty much, and I'd also suggest changing the 'India Must Be Around Here Somewhere' idea to something else.
