Hello everybody, and welcome to my first AAR. You probably think I took a daring choice to take Byzantium as the nation I want to lead for my first AAR. Whether you’re right we’ll see, but there are two reasons why I choose Byzantium:
- The Phoenix arises: the nation which I think everybody would want to lead to glory and rescue it from its tedious situation.
- “It is impossible to play as Byzantium”: this was actually the most important thing for me to choose for Byzantium, since I really couldn’t believe it’s impossible. So I tried it for myself and after a successful first war against the Ottomans I decided I would record things and make an AAR after it. This also means that there are few screenshots before the first war, I apologise for that. Most of the screenshots before this first war were taken afterwards.
I’m playing in version 1.15.1 with only the "Purple Phoenix" DLC and "Women in history" DLC.
So this means that there's no helpful “Threaten War”, “Justify Trade Conflict”, no developing, no estates etc.
I actually think this makes the survival of Byzantium easier, especially regarding diplomacy with favors.
The only mods I'm using are "The Chapel - Event pictures" and "Colored UI: Purple" which don't affect the checksum and are therefore ironman compatible.
Table of Contents:
Chapter I: The Quest for new allies
Chapter II: Bashing the Ottomans
Chapter III: Wars, more wars and a triumph for the Balkans
Chapter IV: The long march for Rome
Chapter V: Trouble in Constantinople
Chapter VI: Into Turkey we go, and Italy
Chapter VII: Taking back what is ours
Chapter VIII: The stage is set...
Chapter IX: A disappointment and an opportunity for the Empire
Chapter X: Let's intimmiedate our enemies
Chapter XI: Indian adventures
Chapter XII: Blobbing mode activated
Chapter XIII: Agressive expansion is just a number
Chapter XIV: The titans are ready...
Edit 22-12-2018: added threadmarks for whoever still reads this thing in 2018 and beyond .
