Good News, Everyone! We are going to be killing a Speaker at around 22:30 Warsaw Time. Make sure to contribute to the Wood and Oil Piles!
Well, you're boned :p

BTW since you mentioned Futurama - that's how I envision the "unaffiliated demes":

I think it would be shame to waste estate system on The Senate, instead of it covering actual estates, with possible conflict of power between dynatoi and aristoi. Faction system already covers the Senate.

We can keep both I think.

Senate as a whole estate representing the minor Aristoi could be good but I'd keep the current factions as well.
It would be awesome that the bonus/malus given by the factions scale with the Senate estate's power.

I don't think that would be a possibility, unless we swapped out the Factions with a more powerful version of themselves every time the Senate gained land, which I hope I don't need to tell you is probably not going to happen.

Faction modifiers are static unless you go into the script and change them manually.

You could use triggered modifiers checking both which faction is dominant and the Senate/Aristoi estate's power. Effectively "moving" the faction bonuses to the triggered modifiers.

This would work, yes, but it would complicate everything a lot. Right now there is like a dozen of triggered modifiers for the Imperium - does anyone here remember what all of they do and what are the conditions that trigger them?

Together with update to "The Cossacks" I'm planning great simplification (in some cases remoal) of the modifiers, both triggered modfiiers and event modifiers. There are way too many and with the Senate Factions, the Estates, modifiers from National Ideas, goverment form, religion etc. it will be a complete mess.

Well for starters there is a Corruption modifier for various levels of Stability to affect our income...

Edit: One hour until we can start preparing the Ravenna Barbecue

Special meeting of the Red Demes

10 January 1566
Great Hall, Andronikos Castle, Palace of Manuel, Konstantinoupolis

Having received invitation from the President of the Senate over a week ago, you arrive before the entrance to the Palace of Manuel. The immense gate is guarded by ten heavily armed soldiers, you also notice that there are men patrolling the walls of the complex. You remember that the Palace itself was long ago owned by megas domestikos Demetrios Komnenos but was completely burned down during the attack of xenoi assassins, who slaughtered everyone within its walls. The Palace was later rebuilt and expanded by Manuel Komnenos, who turned it into a small fortress, a true symbol of power of his House in Konstantinoupolis.

The soldiers approach you and, after ensuring that you are unarmed, they escort you alone inside the Palace, leaving all your companions behind the walls. The courtyard is impressive, with huge fountains and thirty six orange trees giving shadow and respite to the guests during summer. You are more concerned with presence of the guards however - you spot at least thirty Komnenoi men on the courtyard and in the cloisters but you suspect that there may be more behind the pillars.

You walk through the long corridors of the Palace complex and walk out to another courtyard. Now moving past several separate houses, pavilions and – to your surprise – what seems to be an ancient monastery now turned into a chapel you notice even more armed men. The whole complex is crawling with servants and soldiers – you begin to wonder how many people are there in all these towers, kitchens, stables, bakeries and other building purpose of which you don't even suspect. You suspect that the number must be counted in hundreds.

Finally you enter the third courtyard, the smallest of them all. Adjacent to it there are two buildings – a church to your left and an impressive keep to your right. On the opposite side of the courtyard you see entrance to the garden surrounding the old Palace of Demetrios itself. The guards escort you to the building to your right – the Andronikos Castle.

As you enter the keep you find yourself in vast entrance hall. You see a large ceremonial staircase of white marble with a balustrade of red and green marble, which divides into two divergent flights of stair leading to the first floor. There, on the wall above the staircase, is an immense banner covering a huge part of the wall with crest of the House Komnenos on it – a black eagle with raised wings on yellow field.

You are escorted through long corridors to a small chamber where – as you are told by the dekarchos of the Komnenoi soldiers – you will wait until you are summoned by the President.

The art style is off by several centuries but it should give you an idea.

As you enter the chamber you immediately notice that you are not alone – fellow members of your Demes are already there. The Senators welcome you and the guardsmen leave the room but even without their presence you can feel that you are being watched…

{{ @Mach Twelve , @varetta , @Ponce_The_Great , @KingJerkera , @Undead Martyr , @ParrotGuy , @Tecumseh23 , @BanishTheSpleen , @Jericho Ranger - the special meeting has began

Red Senators may now write in-character. }}

Senator Philaretos Mandromenos:

*As he walks through the Komnenoi Estate, He can't help but comment*

Very Impressive, to be sure, but if he thinks this will frighten me, our esteemed President is surely mistaken.

*He stands at the chamber, alone and waits for the others to arrive*

{{Get your popcorn, people! Now we just wait to see how many Senators die.}}

Senator Nikephoros II Salamis (Red Demes):
*Senator Nikephoros II Salamis, a member of one of the Bluest houses in the history of the Senate, always stout members of the Blue Demes since the reestablishment of the Senate by Emperor Markos III of the Great House Angelos, is now an officer of the Imperial army... And a new member of the Red Demes. While being escorted though the corridors, Nikephoros is full of suspicion. He left the Blue Demes, and the Blue speaker has Komnenoi relatives and is probably loyal to them... If he sees this as a slight and use his connections in the Palace of Manuel...
As Nikephoros enters the room, he feels uncomfortable. He sees Senators which were alwasys Red, which he fought against in the last session, when he was still a soft Blue shy creature. He speaks now to the members present*
Hail, my fellow Reds. I will not blame you if you treat me with suspicion. I know my house was always Blue, I know I was as Blue as the Aegean Sea in the last session.
{{Before this one}}
But I couldn't stay in the Blue Demes. Senator Hvide, my relative by marriage, was not present, Senator Raoul, whose house was ever my House's stoutest ally, joined the Whites and Senator Arrius proved a heretic. And who was left? The so-called speaker, Colombo. This man I will never trust. And so, I joined this esteemed Demes. As an officer of the Imperial army, this is my natural place. I shall be as stout a man of the army as any of you, and hope we will be able to work together to save the Imperium from the likes of Colombo.

{{Am I the only one who had the guts to show up? Guess that I will become the new Red Speaker by default then...

And then Salamis ninjas me... haha}}

Senator Philaretos Mandromenos (Red Demes):

It is good to see that I do not stand alone on my opinion of the Blues. Indeed, I believe that we will need to rely on the Whites to prevent more harm to come to pass. Some of you may have noticed that I spent much time with the Speaker of the Whites at the Recess. It was a productive event. Pylaeus is an honorable man and I believe that we will be able to reason with him to help better the Imperium.

And to our friend Salamis, I may be less experienced than our brothers, but I welcome you to the company of the True Sons of Rome, I hope that we will do great things together.

Senator Nikephoros II Salamis (Red Demes):
*Nikephoros speaks carefully*
I... believe the Blue Demes, as a group, is crucial to the Imperium as... almost as much as the other Demes. If there will arise reasonable Blue Demes, like previous Senator Arrius or, indeed, myself six years ago, I am of the opinion that we should cooperate with them. However, the current Blue Demes... Nay, lead by Colombo they are not to be trusted. The Whites are indeed true and good men of Rome, and I will be glad if we work with them. Indeed, if only we had a reasonable, loyal Blue Demes the Senate could stand united against... *Nikephoros' eyes move around the room, and he weighs his words*... those who would harm us.

{{Let the Roast begin!}}
Senator Alexios Este-Ravenna (Red Demes Speaker):

The aged speaker sits quietly in the corner, having arrived early to avoid troubling his leg. Constantinople's weather does not agree with him.

"Speaker Colombo is a very troubling man, and it is wise not to trust him. That so many yet remain attached to the Blue Demes speaks of their naked greed and ambition, and perhaps also the influence of the Dalassenoi. Do not forget that a Colombo was the first of our Body to be found guilty for treason.... his house has long flirted with heresy, I feel, and does a disservice to the Italian people. The Whites, as always, remain our traditional friends and allies, yes, but the Red Demes come before them."

He turns to Senator Salamis. "I welcome, you, friend, to our faction, and I wish only that Senator Mojmirid would have showed the same foresight, his defection reflects poorly on his House. Of late I am intrigued by the large number of unafilliated senators. Their presence is significant. I feel it would be in our interest to court their votes if not their allegiances. What say you, my fellow Reds?"
