People of Germany, fellow members of the Reichstag:

....

I will wait until the General Election of 1889, but if, as I fear, there is no change and the liberals remain solidly in power, I will have no choice but to retire. God help Germany.

Fritz von Hohenzollern
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Indeed, may God preserve us from continued prosperity, domestic peace, the blessings of advanced technologies and a world dominant military. Surely such a prayer will be answered.

HF Gutfreund, proud liberal and Minister of War

Yes, because four years of nothing is better than another liberal president.

It should be obvious to the Communists and Socialists that Herr von Altmark would never support Socialist Reforms, as we in the Liberal parties have done before. Herr von Altmark won't let anything (with the possible exception of Conservative/Reactionary legislation) happen while he's President. It would be at least another four years of legislative stalemate (which I admit is one of the flaws with the current government). I know conjecture is just that, but he'd likely block any coalition with a liberal party in it, even if a liberal party was the only way to ensure a 50% control of the government in both houses, which would still result in a legislative stalemate.

Simply put, Herr von Altmark, despite being the only anti-liberal candidate being voted for, is worse than anyone else who could be put in that position. I'd rather any other member of the Reichstag be President asides from him.

Seriously, though, if Herr von Altmark is the best opposition to the liberal parties, I can see why the people keep giving us a clear electoral mandate.

It is truly sad to see the party of Bismarck reduced to voting for Herr von Altmark.

-Chancellor Meningen

The family of ex-Chancellor Bismarck hereby delivers an injunction against the Reichstag from invoking my father's legacy as a justification for defamatory speech against fellow Reichstag members, or against any person in the Reichstag's attendance. Any further use of my father's legacy as a weapon of politics shall be met with a defamation lawsuit. All parties have been warned.

Signed,
Ferdinand von Bismarck
Son of former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck

Thank you for putting words in my mouth. I appreciate it very much when the opposition with no chance of losing does nothing but defame myself and my ideals of which they know nothing of. Truly, your hostile fervour is unsurprising. The nobility always does bring about hatred from the lower classes. I have no such plans to enact on the legislative body of this nation, only simply use a strong hand to guide the nation away from a legacy of failed Liberal governments which seek an unshakable grip upon our nation. What coalitions are formed is no business of mine.

I wish to thank all those that voted for myself for your support. The faith and trust you have in myself is noted and will be noted by the Lord once your time finally comes.

((Young adults in Germany start wearing shirts saying "Don't blame me, I voted for von Altmark" and "I voted for von Altmark before it was popular". Thus the hipsters were born.))

The Supreme Court confirms the election of Herr von Dwyfor-Frauenkirche as President. Unless one or more liberal politicians change their vote to Herr von Altmark, there is no way he would be elected. It is best for Germany to conclude the elections and get on with the business of governing. The elections are formally concluded, and the Supreme Court solicits proposals for legislation, if any.

Well then this seems preposterous that a man thinks he can stop an assembly of lawmakers from invoking his name and legacy. I propose the following act in order to better enable the Reichstag to discuss policy amongst itself.
The Free Debate Act
All sitting members of the Reichstag will be given full immunity from lawsuits defamation or libel stemming from action taken during their term of office provided the statement is regarding the behavior or policy the German Republic or Devolved regional government ,employees or volunteers of either of those institutions or other prominent public figures.

Opposed, the legislators should not be above defamatory lawsuits. I also would like to note that the request of the Bismarck family only applies to situations in which his name is invoked in a negative manner, as a means to degrade others. This is a perfectly civil request, and any civilized man ought to respect the wishes of one of Germany's finest chancellors. To use Bismarck's legacy as weaponry is awful. I would like to remind the Reichstag that the KPD attempted to revive Bismarck's Grand Coalition, only to have the DSU and liberal parties actively oppose the entrance of everybody but themselves into the coalition. It is not the fault of anybody but the liberal parties that there is no more Grand Coalition, and that Bismarck's dream failed miserably.

So do not claim the Conservatives have fallen far for voting as they do, for it is the fault of the Liberals that things are this way.

And show some respect, you insolent young man. That "man" is the finest Chancellor, Foreign Minister, and Financial Minister this Republic has seen in it's history; the legend of Otto von Bismarck will resound in history books for all coming time, and he deserves the respect and consideration of these hallowed halls in full.

- Liebknecht

Congratulations to my friend and colleague, Herr von Dwyfor-Frauenkirche. Long live German liberalism!

-Chancellor Meningen

Oh do shut up, you insufferable twit.

If Liberal governments are "failures", then why do the people of the Republic continue to elect us and why does the economy continue to prosper?

-Chancellor Meningen

Because governing is something even the French can do.

May I remind you, Herr Chancellor, that our government has been running a shortfall thanks to your "enlightened" tax cut? The only reason your governments have been successful is that sensible Germans in the Conclave vote against your ruinous and ill-conceived wars; had you gotten your way and forced Germany to face Poland and the British Empire, again, with no allies, the blood of hundreds of thousands of Germans would stain your record. You buy your support by handing the masses piles of money. Is it any wonder they enthusiastically support such a regime? What happens when our treasuries are empty?

Fritz von Hohenzollern

Sometimes I feel like the people don't even know what happens here in the Reichstag. It's as though their very existence is separate from our own. It is all only a game to them. If they actually started paying attention to what went on around here, they might well stop voting liberal.

We still have a massive surplus. I am glad that our citizens and businesses are not being taxed out of existence like the socialists wish.

Weren't the taxes cut in response to a surplus? I believe we only cut taxes to give the people a few years' break. We had/have the money to support the tax cut temporarily.

What a shock! Rather than try to expand his cabinet by including individuals of differing opinions, the Chancellor turns to one of his old cronies. 1889 cannot come soon enough; I hope the voters have good enough sense to vote the liberals out of office.

Herr Schaumburg,

All members of the Reichstag already enjoy immunity from all non-capital crimes, which would include defamation, libel, and slander. The Court determines that no other legislation is needed, and therefore will not add your legislation to the ballot. The heirs of Otto von Bismarck are also reminded that nothing may hinder the free exchange of ideas within the Reichstag, and that the Court will neither allow injunctions of that nature nor permit lower courts to issue them.

Herr von Schwaben will have some time to propose changes to the Foreign Ministry plan, should he not wish to follow his predecessor; however, the Court considers the business of introducing legislation closed, with ample time provided to make such determinations.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Herr von Schwaben is hereby named Foreign Minister of the Republic of Germany with Herr von Dwyfor Frauenkirche's election to the presidency.

-Chancellor Meningen
Let me guess, in 8 years you will become the next President and Herr Frauenkirchen will become the chancellor ? This cabinet is an utter shame..
