I find it most disturbing that Lord Matsui is denying his involvement in the war with the Nanban which has led to the death of many Japanese and humiliated Nippon. While Tairo Satake was wise enough to remove Lord Matsui before his order to murder all Nanban could be enforced, Lord Matsui still incited peasants and samurai to kill all of the Nanban. Whether he likes it or not, Lord Matsui, through his rash and ill thought out order to kill all Nanban, has brought death and destruction to our fair Nippon and brought dishonor to himself and his family. I agree with the calls for justice to be brought upon Lord Matsui, either through his execution or the committing of seppuku.
I also do not know what delusion has overtaken Lord Matsui for him to be so bold as to call for the execution of the entirety of the Self-Strengthening Faction for purportedly being in league with the Nanban to destroy the Shogunate. I do believe he has confused it with the Imperial Restoration Faction, for which such an accusation would be more wisely leveled. The reforms that have been brought to Nippon have made us stronger against the forces of the Nanban. Only through further reform can we match the Nanban in strength and ability and create a better Nippon for all.
