The question is how grimdark Czoklet will resolve this - if he goes full apocalypse they will probably die. I am excited to see how this continues :)
We might see a new, reformed Blue demes, kind of like what happened with the whites.

We the red demes are never bored. When we are not arguing between ourselves, we have no leader, or we are talking nonsense, insulting other demes, being poisoned, accused of heresy, accused of insult the Empèror... we are never quiet :p

By the Angeloi, a Senate with a White Demes majority? We've come so far from having only 3 members. *swipes lone tear from his face*

IMPORTANT

Please don't send me new characters before the next chapter is released :)

As for the arrested Blues, the interrogation should start next week - I'll let you know few earlier so that you may participate.

Oh, we dead Blues don't get to participate.
Can't we (our heirs) testify for our faction members? :p

The senate is certainly a dangerous place, maybe we should lure all the Xenoi in here and watch them be killed by the ruthless politics of the place?

@CzokletMuss I pretend to kill my senator too after next chapter. Just letting you know...

Marcus Arrius still lives... I'm still not sure if that's a good thing. I have my doubts if the remaining Senators awaiting trial actually have a chance of being found innocent. Its going to be interesting...

This case has legitimate evidence for the defense. The man who guarded them was with the wine, he delivered the letter, and he framed the Blues for poisoning a Blue ally (and that alone doesn't make sense)!

This is, of course, all just hearsay--the word of a group of accused murderers sentenced to death versus that of a loyal subject of the emperor.

Death to the Blues! I vote we get a Yellow Demos instead :>

There is a huge difference between the belt and the lie. Bubba (accidentally) committed an established crime and the evidence for his guilt is overwhelming because he is literally wearing it.

Treason cannot be accused willy-nilly. That's a very serious crime and it needs serious evidence. If someone speaks ill of the Angeloi, that's obvious, and someone would squeal.
Also, the slaves and eunuchs at the meeting could be witnesses for the letter and for the integrity of the meeting. The defense has a legitimate case.

You all assume that there will be a trial. ;)

But seriously, this is Late Middle Ages Byzantium in a twisted grimdark reality, so your notions of defense and trial - based on institutions invented and developed during Enlightement like confessio non est regina probationum - misguide you. The trial, assuming there will be one, won't be based on modern sensibilities concerning justice and fairness. Remember that the criminal law in Imperium is nothing like what we have today in the West. As an example, take a look at one of the constitutions (decree) of basilues Leo VI the Wise (9th-10th century):

Those who assert that wine should be condemned on account of the evil disposition, and the irrational behavior which it causes drunkards to exhibit, and who think that its use as a beverage should be prevented for this reason, attempt to render something wicked which, in itself, is not of that character. But remembering that one of the laws promulgated by the ancient legislators, which sometimes punishes enchantments because it regards them as crimes, and again, on the contrary, authorizes and approves them on the ground that they are not an evil, taking into account the intentions of those who practice such arts, even though by their very nature they are vicious, and, as it were, reeking with filth and stench, I would not say that the said legislators are worthy of censure, but in order that no one may have reason to criticize this law, I am of the opinion that it ought to be repealed. For it provides that enchantments shall be punished because they are instrumental in removing all innate modesty, and are productive of an amorous fury which causes loss of reason; and, on the other hand, it approves of them because they are supposed to aid in the production of grains and fruits, and apparently supply Us with other benefits. Thus this law honors as advantageous something which it thinks should be punished as productive of injury. We, however, are convinced that enchantments of this kind are pernicious, and We cannot be induced to believe that they are productive of any advantage whatever; and, indeed, if they appear to be the source of any good (as seems to have been the opinion of those who rendered them legal), We believe that they are not an actual benefit, but merely an attractive and dangerous snare set for those to fall into whom, with the prospect of the greatest benefit, it entices to the greatest of evils. For We are aware that those who devote themselves to these matters instead of to worship of the Creator, Our Lord, invoke malevolent and cruel demons, and those who have recourse to them by means of a certain pleasant exterior, receive wounds in their souls; just as timid men who, in order to avoid a blow which threatens their hands, allow it to be inflicted on their heads or their bellies; therefore anyone who employs incantations for the restoration or preservation of his health, or for the purpose of avoiding calamities which threaten his harvests, if convicted, shall undergo the punishment of an apostate and suffer death.

This is an authentic passage from the IRL Byzantine law BTW. You should expect the proceedings to be in the spirit of legislation like this ;)

In other words:
If you admit, you will get short death.
If not, long one awaits you.:)

So, guys from Blue, the best way of getting out is saying that the guys who died were heretics and you were working in favor of good name of senate.:D

...We four awaiting trial are so screwed. I'll be surprised if even one of us is found innocent. It will be interesting, but we are screwed.
