Before reading:

As it says in the header on every page, things will be constantly changing and being updated. I will try to keep this post as up to date as possible as things change, but please excuse me in the short term whilst it happens.

If you have any topic you would like me to include here, please let me know through a reply or a conversation :)

Currently this post includes information on :

Posting Modes
The new forum has a number of posting modes for staff, when you see a post that looks different than usual, it has been specifically designated by staff to appear as such.

Different modes will have different features, such as text colours, background watermarks over part of the post, darker backgrounds or others.

Developer mode:
aoknNww.png

Administrator mode:
K9q11Hn.png

Moderator mode:
fiFZQKW.png

Reminder: Do not discuss moderator actions in public, start a private conversation instead.

Private Messages
In the new forum, Private Messages are renamed to "Conversations" and are viewed on the Conversations page.

Starting a new Conversation:
Click the "Start a New Conversation" button on the top right of the screen, on the Conversations page
YdMpQk4.png

Or click the "Start a New Conversation" button on the left hand side in the "Your Account" area
From there, it is the same as the old forum, although there is no option to BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) in people, everyone will have visibility of other participants

Deleting a Conversation:
Go into the Conversation you wish to delete, and click the "Leave Conversation" link at the top right of the conversation.
Oj8O0pu.png

At this point, you will receive a pop up asking if you want to accept or ignore future messages.

Accepting allows people to respond to a message in the conversation and you will receive it
Ignoring means you will not receive any future responses in the conversation (useful for when group conversations are going on that you no longer need to be a part of)

Use the radio button to select one and then click "Leave Conversation"
VNKUFhi.png

Changing preferences
In the new forum, number of posts per page in a thread and number of threads per page in a forum are global settings across the entire userbase.

Browsing Preferences
Go to the Browsing Preferences page and you can set the following:
  • Your time zone
  • If you want to receive alerts/emails of threads you have started/posted in automatically
  • If you want other people to see you online

Alert Preferences
Go to the Alert Preferences page and you can set when you receive alerts

Ratings
Rejoice, for no longer will you have to post "Agreed" or "+1" when you agree with someone to lend your support, we now have ratings to take that place.

Ratings will be displayed on each post when received.

How to rate posts:
At the bottom right of each post, there are three icons
dMMrzjs.png

From left to right these are "Helpful", "Agree" and "Disagree"

Use these to express your opinion of posts that you read. Rating your own posts is disabled.

How to view ratings on a post:

When someone has given a post a rating, at the bottom left of the post, the rating will be publicly displayed.
ASbzwFz.png

As seen above, ratings will not cancel each other out, but be displayed side by side

Developer Posts
With the new forum comes a new way to see developer/staff posts are within a thread or forum.

Any threads that have been posted in by a developer will have this icon:
K0C2nAK.png

Show only threads in the forum that have been posted in by a developer:
At the bottom of the forum, click the "Thread Display Options" button
DZNV8WS.png

From the drop down, click the "Show only threads containing developer posts" tickbox and then click "Set Options"
clFy6bR.png

Each page will then be filtered to only show threads that have had developers post within them. To return to normal, simply reverse the process.

Show only developer posts within a thread:
When you are within the thread, click the "Show only Dev responses" link at the top right of the page

zCqe5jd.png

When you are in dev post mode, on each page, only developer posts will show up (excluding the original post).

To return to normal, click the "Show all posts" link that has replaced the Dev posts link
[/SPOILER]

Forum Game Icons
Forum icons are a sign that you have purchased the game and are thus entitled to access to the subforums of that game (tech support, multiplayer, mods etc). Show off your collection, or if you are very brave, become one of the group that is fighting to obtain every single icon.

There is a forum limit to only display a maximum of 54 icons, even though you may have more. When you hit 54, you'll get a gold bar to show off your achievement that will display exactly how many forum icons you have, regardless of how many you choose to show:

In this example, agistournas has 77 icons registered, even though he is only choosing to display 9
NbmZZKN.png

To see a list of all the icons available on the forum, check out this list here
Thank you to @agistournas for keeping it updated :)

Update: Instead of registering your games manually, you can link your steam account to your paradox account and have it done automatically for you. Please note you may need to perform the sync option a few times for the icons to display.

How to Register A Game:
There are three ways to register your game on the forums.
  1. If you bought your game from the Paradox store, it will be automatically registered
  2. If you own the game on Steam, you can link your steam account to your paradox account and have it done automatically for you.
  3. For some older games that provide you a CD Key or the like, the process is below:
Click the "Register A Game" button at the top of the forum
N6r3QLC.png

This will open a new window.
mxWHada.png

In the "Redeem code" box, input your CD Key/Product code and click "Redeem". If you need help finding the code, check the forum for your game, there are often guides on how to obtain it.
Please note: This is not the code used to activate the game on Steam

You will then be presented with a list of games, choose the game you are registering to get your icon.
7zKcOqL.png

How to Manage Which Icons Display:
Management of forum icons has changed with the new forum. Go to your Owned Items page, and you will be presented with the list of games you have registered.
BFBThLU.png

You have a button to perform a synchronisation between your Paradox and Steam accounts (if you have linked them).

In the "Active" box is a list of the icons that will display as you post on the forums. You may order them as you please. The box also displays how many icons you are currently displaying out of the maximum.

To transfer icons between the Active and Inactive boxes, simply drag and drop.

Once you have completed your changes, click "Save"

Beneath the Save button is a list of the games in alphabetical order and their corresponding icons, in case you are not aware of which icons line up with which game.

The Watched Threads and Folowing System could perhaps also be described?

Watched Threads/Forums and Alerts
Watched threads and forums will give you an alert depending on your Alert Preferences when an action is taken in the area you are watching. By default, any thread you start or post in will automatically be watched. You can change this in the Alert Preferences.

Another fancy feature of the new forum is the ability to tag people in your posts, which will provide them with an alert.

To tag someone, input the username of the person: @pevergreen - A drop down will give the chance to confirm the user.

How to view your alerts:
Hover over the "Alerts" area at the top right of the forum or go to the Latest Alerts page.
XFJBKK6.png
j5uvcWw.png

You can click on the alert to go to the specific post or event that has triggered that alert.

How to watch/unwatch a thread or forum:
At the top right of the thread or forum, a "Watch Forum" or "Watch Thread" link will appear. Click this to watch the thread or forum
smxDraT.png
eMjgkLH.png

To unwatch, click the "Unwatch Forum" or "Unwatch Thread" that has taken the place of the former link.

View your Watched Threads:
Click the "Watched Forums" at the top of the forums, or go to the Watched Threads page.
k8aqcaL.png

By default this page will show the 20 most recent unread thread you are watching. To view all of your watched threads, click the "Show all watched threads" link at the bottom of the page.
8hQik3K.png

View your Watched Forums:
Click the "Watched Forums" at the top of the forums, or go to the Watched Forums page.
k8aqcaL.png

You have the option to mark these forums as read, stop watching them and others by selecting them, then using the dropdown.

Once you have found the avatar you would like, click the Radio button on the avatar and then click "Okay"

BB Code
With the new forum software, there have been some changes to the usable BB code (bolding text, making links etc)

In the new post editor, it almost acts as a complete WYSIWYG editor, only certain codes will not be displayed as they will upon posting.

For a full list of BB Code that can be used, please see: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?help/bb-codes

Signatures
Before I jump in to how to update/change your signature, please refresh yourself with the signature rules, found within the Forum Rules.

  1. Your signature should be composed of the default font size or smaller and should be 10 lines maximum (including lines of spaces) when viewed at 1200 x 1080, and with the "User post bit set left". That means the option to display user information on the left of the post rather than the top of the post. We strongly encourage much shorter signatures.
  2. Your signature should conform to the normal Forum Rules regarding content.
  3. Your signature should not include ASCII made images.
  4. Your signature should not include vBB code quotes.
  5. Colours, links (in accordance with Forum Rules) and other vBB codes may be used. Note, however that bad nesting of vBB tags may cause problems and these signatures may be removed without notice.
  6. Any signature seen as being overly long or of an offensive nature etc is liable to be removed without notice.
  7. Inflammatory Political Statements or Quotes (as Perceived by the Paradox Staff) are not permitted in signatures and will be removed.
  8. Paradox forum staff have the final say over what is deemed appropriate.
How to change/update your signature:
Hover over your username at the top right of the forums and then click "Signature" or go directly to the Signature page
9OWJKbu.png

From within this page, you can edit and preview your signature in the text box, before saving changes.

How to change/update a thread title:

(All credit for screenshots go to loup99, thank you for your assistance!)

To change or update a thread title, navigate first to the thread you are wishing to update, then perform the following steps:
  1. Click "Thread Tools" at the top of the page
  2. Click "Edit Title"
    NrOD4S2.png

  3. Type the new thread title into the "Title" field
    GkLS8M8.png

  4. Click "Save Changes"
  5. The thread will now have the updated title.
You are able to do this even after other users have posted in the thread, and there does not yet seem to be a time limit on changing the title.

Threadmarks
Threadmarks are a way for certain points or posts of a thread to be called out for attention, allowing for a lovely index of crucial, helpful or useful posts.

Viewing the index of Threadmarks:
Within a thread, there are three methods of locating Threadmarks.
fnh57aD.png

At the top left of the thread, there is a Threadmarks button. If you hover over this, the most recent threadmarks will be displayed. Clicking on the Threadmarks button, or the View All Threadmarks option within the hover list will take you to the Threadmark index:
3VlwBLP.png

Also at each Threadmark, there are options to go forward and back to adjacent Threadmarks, or view the Index at the top right of the relevant post (see the first screenshot for an example)

Signatures? Blogs coming over? Groups soon? Varying forum skins? Lost icons? When clicking on alert you lose the alert on everything, so even if it says something like 20, it assumes you check them all anyway by clicking it once? And also these weird white "pop-ups" notifying of alert that are still unreadable due to having white text on white background?
These watched threads like old subscriptions in control panel, or what is fundamentally different? Trophies explained, once they are working?

Hello, tried to set an Avatar but there is no point "Avatar" in the drop down menu, it should show between Alert preferences and Password following pevergreens advice. For me Password shows right after the Alerts, nothing in between - any advice please ?

This is not the feedback thread. :p No trophies, they are disabled. Signatures can be edited.

SIgnatures should be going, but until they're working for me I can't get the screenshot and write it up :)
Lost icons, Forum skins have been talked about, they will be worked on after everything is working on the current skin.

The white alert pop up has been noted, that will be changed :) Already today a number of cosmetic changes have been made, but I don't know what the top priority is :)

The alert one is a good point, pop that in the feedback thread please; ) https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-forum-feedback-not-for-questions.847200/

Regarding the Hide/Show Icons function, maybe indicate that, if one has 50 or more icons "shown", the button "show" will not appear.

Its kind of hard to see at the moment, but its still there

3f4DRis.png

@gigau I'll try to add that in tomorrow. Been slack recently :(
It is supposed to come up when you write e.g. @gigau? Because nothing happens. Lets see what happens if I press preview with it half written. @pevergreen. Nothing happens.

Depends on the name, but it will come up as you write. Regardless, its tagging those users for you.

When I started typing my username:

D8e9lvq.png

I do have to give it a moment. @Wag gives me 7 options after about a second and a half of pausing.

@pev gives nothing after 10 seconds.

How to change the "Second Lieutenaunt" under my pseudonim to something else?
You need to either have more than 3,000 posts or to have been a member for more than 1,5 years. It is an old feature, and I think you apply to neither of them.

Finally got this updated, rewrote the entire section on forum icons in the first post :)
